To be fair part of the reason for this is because Shulk still suffered from a bit from acknowledgement problems prior to the leak, there were simply alot of people who didn't know who he was. Once his name was brought forward in the leak more people began to look more into the character and his game.
And chugga helps immensely

True, in this case Shulk is facing a situation like Ness and Falcon did during Smash 64; the (relative) unknown who got roped in along with these much bigger names. It's kind of the difference between him and Wii Fit Trainer; While WFT is the character that everyone stopped and asked "Why?", Shulk is the one most people will ask "Who?"

I think Shulk is very comparable to Ness and Captain Falcon in the past.

Smash will be the game that sparks a good chunk of his popularity and Xenoblade's as a whole.

Which is king of what leads me to think that Shulk will be unlockable.
If Ness and Cap were unlockable in 64 then I think Shulk could be unlockable now.

My oh my, it is just spoiler heaven up in here. This is precisely why I always stay away from gaming forums when playing a new RPG.

Anyhow, I just thought of a random idea... What if Shulk's moveset involved the Talent Gauge? It could function somewhat similarly to Little Mac's Power Meter. Every time Shulk lands a hit with a normal attack, the Talent Gauge builds up, and when it is full, he will be able to use a selection of Monado arts. Said arts could have Monado Buster, Monado Shield, Monado Speed, or Monado Eater.

Also, I was thinking for the 3DS version, the Xenoblade stage could be Prison Island. The shackled giant could be in the background, and Metal Face could be a stage boss. As for the Wii U version, I would love for it to be a dark, stormy stage where you can see the two titans fighting in the background. Perhaps the players could fight atop a platform that circles around and weaves between the two titans. That would definitely be a unique and iconic stage in Smash Bros, in mine opinion.

What say you lot?
I think we actually do a fantastic job of using the spoiler tag in this thread. In any case, as far as possible stages go, we have pretty much discussed them all in this thread. I think these are the ones that get brought up the most:

1.) Sword Valley - already has platforms, is an important location in the game, and the ether flow seems like a decent hazard.

2.) Guar Plains - First BIG open area of the game, great music - Raguel Lake already has platforms if the stage was to be set there.

3.) Eryth Sea - ABSOLUTELY Beautiful area of the game, very unique looking, and the teleports built into platform gimmick could be worked in.

4.) Prison Island - Cool area, very important to the game, and has TONs of potential for hazards and cameo appearances.

5.) A traveling stage that takes you to different areas on the Bionis and Mechonis. This stage would probably have the players riding on top of
Junks

I don't think this was ever brought up, but I think that Frontier Village could be a very fun stage as well.

Any big ones I forgot to mention?

Let's just hope his series doesn't go the way of Mother...
It won't, Xenoblade Chronicles is getting a spiritual sequel that is also coming to the west. While the first didn't get very good advertisement, X got trailers in E3 2013 and 2014. The Treehouse helps too. And with Shulk in Smash Bros, people are going to know about the series even more.
So yeah, pretty sure X will be successful.

I hope so.

Also, I'm really hoping that X comes with Xenoblade like Bayonetta 2 comes with Bayonetta. Would make it a must buy for a lot of people.

Or at least a rerelease. Maybe not a free one for all those people who paid good money for it.

Yeah, that would be awesome. It would give people who hadn't played the first a very good chance to do so and pretty much adds about 100 hours onto the whole thing anyway. Though, to be honest I don't think that would be very likely. Bayonetta 2 is a direct sequel, unlike X.

Well, if they bundled it with X, it would increase the sales a lot. A normal rerelease wouldn't do as well as a bundle.

Well, Bayonetta isn't ridiculously difficult to find like Xenoblade is. It would be in their best interest to make Xenoblade more easy to buy, wouldn't it?

I'm still not entirely sure there won't be a direct connection between the two games. I just hope if there is it's not as convoluted as the one between Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross (both games that were worked on by the team at Squaresoft that eventually became Monolithsoft.)

Having not played Xenoblade, but getting interested, and as a recent purchaser of a Wii U, it would totally make me buy the game.

Now, having time to play it, that's another story xD.

Back in the day I remember when hardly anyone posted in this thread....

That was a long time ago. Now the posts are coming one after the other. As long as the series gets more exposure I don't mind if X, Chugga or even Gemetsu influenced new fans

I'll be honest, it's the fact that a new game for the series was announced at E3 that got my attention. If Shulk was playable in smash, but that wasn't the case, I probably wouldn't give the series much thought.

If Nintendo decides to keep Monolith Soft and Tetsuya Takahashi under their umbrella despite the games being expensive to develop, then I'm sure Xenoblade won't go the way of Mother. My primary reason for Shulk's inclusion in Smash is so he can make the Xenoblade name become popular. I'd hate Xenoblade X to bomb and have Nintendo make Monolith Soft a Mario spin-off developer. His playability is just an added bonus for me. c:

Also, I don't think having Xenoblade bundled in with Xenoblade X is easy as it sounds. Bayonetta was already an HD game, and all the developers needed to do was recode the game to fit the Wii U's architecture. Xenoblade would require a lot of work to port it, unless Nintendo decides to keep the art and graphics assets and just upscale it to HD, which would be fine.

Oh, I'd just keep the graphics as is. Maybe even make the game a digital copy or something if they can.

considering the attention Xenoblade has gotten and the amount of spotlight they give it, I can't imagine Xenoblade going the way of the Mother series. I think the Mother series was A) primarily driven by a non-Nintendo employee B) Had to have a lot effort putting into translating due to humor translation and whatnot, C) suffered due to the shift away from traditional turnbased JRPGs worldwide.

The lack of availability and lack of games for the Wii U would make the bundle of the original and X a great option.

I made an account on smashboards, because I too am a supporter for Shulk in ssb4 and to ask a question.

Was this place ever suggested as a stage?

I believe it has been before but not in the greatest of detail. You could go into more if you have any ideas about what might happen if that were a stage. Also, welcome to the forums! I'm sure i speak for everyone when i say we're honored you came to the Shulk thread first!

It's funny, I knew that Xenoblade existed, but I wasn't really aware of it until the first talks of Smash 4 came about and people started talking about this Shulk dude. That said, even if I don't know Xenoblade that well, Chugga's LP and any other vids are actually helping me come up with a moveset, so stay tuned for that I guess?

I don't think that's gonna happen. The reason Mother ended is because of Itoi himself thinking that Mother 3 was a perfect conclusion and that there isn't any need for a Mother 4. The series itself actually sells relatively well despite its niche status. 3 million for the whole series if I remember right? Not counting the recent (or not so recent now) VC release for Earthbound.

Xenoblade is like that. It's got a cult following and even though it's no million seller, I'd say sales are good for its kind of game. Unless the director of the games decides that there's no need for another Xenoblade, I can see it going strong for a while similar to Fire Emblem with how Monolith Soft sems to be pushing for the series and Nintendo being behind that. Shulk being in Smash is a very good way to promote the games, as well. Also helps the game didn't take nearly two decades to come to Europe.

EDIT: I knew about Xenoblade because I pretty much try to keep up with the industry. The game's amazing reception isn't something I could easily avoid. lol I did find it in stores (europe here, this was before the NA release) but it never caught my attention since it was expensive. I don't think I'll ever play it frankly, since the price keeps going up and I honestly never liked very long JRPGs (and RPGs in general) with only a few exceptions. (SMT3: Nocturne and Earthbound, really.) It's just not my cup of tea, unfortunately. I am keeping up with chugga's playthrough though, for what it's worth.

Thanks, and i came first to this thread because i googled "shulk super smash bros 4".

Valak Mountain becomes, like other places in Xenoblade, beautiful when it is getting dark. With the shining crystals, the snow and the one or other flying monster.
It would have a bigger fanbase, if there were more games. I had luck and bought the last copy for 2 years in Gamestop.

I've said it before, but if you live in a big city/area with multiple Game Stops call around if you want a used copy of the game. One or two stores often have a few copies and it's only $50.

I already finished it and sold it. I bought it 1 month after the release, it was the last not sold copy in town.

The game actually sold substantially considering Nintendo's target of 1/2 Million and the little to no advertisement in Europe.
And the game was not advertised at all in North America so that's another thing to think about.
All in all the sales amounted to around 800,000 without advertisement and alot of those sales were in America that's why the game's so fricken hard to find.

Please take this with truckloads of salt, but apparently there have been some reported sightings of Mechon trophies (as in trophies you pick up, not ATs) in Smash Run. But like the fabled Chunky Kong AT there isn't any visual evidence so don't think too much on it.

That's already been mentioned here, but that would just be the icing on the "Shulk is basically confirmed now" cake.

I see it all the time at gamestop. Maybe no one in Suburbia #'s 32 and 45 wants to play this amazing game. Shame on them.

If there is no visual evidence, I always claim it as false.

Uh, one thing I wanted to mention from my earlier posts.
I think I'm going to play Xenoblade Chronicles at my own pace rather than try to keep up with Chugga. Don't get me wrong, I love his LPs. But I tend to like playing video games at my own pace more, and I could always watch Chugga's LP of the game after I beat it (not including any Bonus Bosses). I just want to play and explore the game for myself rather than having to keep up with him.
So, that's what I'll do. I'll play Xenoblade at my own pace, and then watch Chugga's LP of it when I beat the main story.
Does that sound good?
I also have Mother 3 I want to finish as well.

It is almost 3 years out now, I guess many people finished and sold it.

I will take Shulk for confirmed after I have seen him in ssb4.

Isn't that the point of playing games? Playing at your own pace that suits your preferences rather than others? That is the only way I play my games.

Just make sure to have fun while playing, take some more time if you need to have more fun.

Yeah. I'm just trying to avoid spoilers desperately, but accidentally found the spoiler that
Fiora is turned into a Mechon and that Shulk essentially becomes a god.
That's the only one I know of (and found it by complete accident). I didn't accidentally just spoil the whole game, right?

I don't know, I have not played the game yet. I will play it eventually, but with the amount of time the game requires, it seems to be a heavy task.

I typically don't use ROMs for released games in America (like Pokemon Black/White, for example), but if the games won't be exported outside of Japan, then I see no issue in using ROMs with an English fan translation. Mother 3 and Ace Attorney Investigations 2 are two examples of that.
I also used one for EarthBound WAY before the Wii U Virtual Console release was announced. However, I have promised to myself to download the VC version as soon as I get a Wii U.

It's amazing on the Wii U. Being able to play it with the gamepad screen and let others watch on the TV is a pleasure. It's not huge, but it's so much better than emulation.

Naw, there are way more twists in the plot. Way more. Those two aren't related points and aren't even the two spoilers I see people complain about the most.
