I played Kat a couple times, I found her burst to be good but her sustained damage was non-existent.

someone tell me why you would use anything other than magic resist blues.

i've looked at every other blue and they all pale in comparison

only ap/level even comes close, but mres is so much better on a caster because it's an invaluable stat that's hard to build for

Do junglers run MR blues?
well... i do :awesome:

cdr is an overrated stat in my opinion.

for casters, blue buff alone gives you 25% cdr at level 18, and when combined with masteries and blue pot, you max out without the need for runes.

for ranged ad, cdr hardly matters because your damage comes from autoattacks. mres is still better for keeping you alive.

i can see cdr being okay on support... but i never play support :awesome: and mres is still really good for them anyway

all other types of heroes get into melee range of the enemy team and therefore benefit greatly from defense.

most ultimates (and other skills that decide teamfights and win games) are used once per fight, which means they don't benefit from cdr unless you are dumb enough to initiate or be initiated on right before your ult is up.

the only way cdr runes can be useful is if you aren't a caster, don't use autoattacks primarily for damage, already incorporate mr into your build, and have spammable skills. =/

isn't laning phase mostly just autoattacks (with the occasional harass when your opponent makes a mistake)? why do you need cdr during laning phase?
Jungling, where you need to use abilities; faster clear than if you have mres (does nothing if you dont counterjungle / gank into a magic lane)
Vlad
Annie

idk, I could think of other early viable uses for cdr, it's situational and champ dependent.

EDIT: And yeah, sometimes you're not the best choice for Blue.

I've been pretty successful laning jarvan but i'm conflicted over the build

been going wriggles->brutalizer->frozen mallet->atmas->MR item

i usually get a black cleaver as my last item

my question is if the 5.5k gold atmallet is worth the slow or not? should i forego getting atmallet for getting an earlier cleaver + something else?

I want to expect better of you, but I know not to
here's my most recent TL post on building DPS jarman:

my builds have been solidifying a bit.

Starting:
vs. AD: cloth + 5 -> wriggle's + boots -> brutalizer -> phage
vs. AP: boots + 3 -> brutalizer + philo -> phage -> wriggle's

I've been abandoning dblades in favor of wriggle's, as I like having that lifesteal when I'm trucking people all game and wriggle's just feels like a more intelligent use of item slots when I'm buying a bunch of midgame items rather than saving up for something huge. Sometimes I get philo top too and sometimes I add a hog in addition to a philo if I'm planning on just sitting on wriggle's + phage + brutalizer + hog + philo + mercs until I can complete a triforce and ghostblade. After the trifecta of early damage items (wriggle's + brutalizer + phage), I rush my Black Cleaver, Triforce, Aegis or Warmog's, depending on my team's needs. Late items are all situational, but I like GA and QSS when I go for blatantly offensive builds like Cleaver, Triforce, Ghostblade, Wriggle's, Mercs, whereas other times I'll just transition into Atmog's for lategame survivability.
Triforce too good on Jarman to force mallet unless you really need to tank out and can't afford a mallet (essentially only if your team needs a hard initiator out of the jungle) IMO.

Speaking of cloth armor, has anyone been forced to lane again talon as an ap and started cloth armor + 5 pots? Trying to find ways to deal with him without switching lanes

Honestly if you lane against Talon run Mpen red and rest flat armor (like 30ish extra armor) and you will beat him, lol. Same as dealing w/ Garen. If they are super popular running a specialized rune page to counter them won't kill you.

Beat him in lane and as long as your team doesn't let him feed off them he will be considerably less effective. Starting cloth and 5 pots is also a good idea. Do both! No reason to let them win if you know you're going to be laning against them.

Thanks px, I didn't even consider running a lot of armor on my rune page as well.

I don't know why people are so hesitant to optimize a rune page to a given matchup when it could greatly alleviate it. This game is very centered around winning early so you can do well late (Nasus is a glaring excpetion, and a few others). Sure you don't have the optimal page or starting build, but it's not like your burst/harass is going to be bad, and you're still going to be building primarily AP... that safer start will let you farm easier and not feed an assassin. What more could you want?

Then you start building a bunch of damage while he still has little-to no resists and you start winning over time.

Lane switching.

If you invest too much in runes to beat that Talon, he might go mid and force you to lose a level or 2 in exp switching lanes. Or he might go bottom, even. Just make sure the champion you're sticking 30 flat armor on can lane in mid well.

Imo you want to run a rune page that can handle both their solos, as well as be good later in the game. Early game isn't THAT important that you need to run that much armor vs many champs. Later on that Talon isn't even going to focus you anyways.

Just a thought.

DanGR. It's not like you can't do the same... especially if you're playing one of the APs. Going mid is never a bad thing for you, lol.

(He did mention he plays AP).

Patch notes are out. Small nerfs and buffs here and there. Raise Moral got hit again... but I think GP should still be able to jungle fine.

Except Skarner... the changes they made to him are going to make him quite good in either lane (Fracture automatically heals him on creep kill) or jungle (huge mana cost reduction on Q and AS per level buff). Can't wait to play this guy after patch tomorrow.

I feel like Talon got pretty decently as well. His base mana regen got cut by a third and lost 2 health/5.

Gunblade lost a lot more AD than I was expecting o_O

GP nerf is pretty bad, considering how powerful it is / was in teamfights. I have a feel the Koggy nerf might be bad as well.

Orianna autoattack range buff, but still not good enough for me to bring back AS Orianna.

**** SHACO BUFFS GODDAMN THAT MOTHER****ER

Nerfing Skarner's passive is a bit weird. Maybe they're trying to emphasize him as a jungler.

Talon's "nerf" to sustain isn't really a nerf, it's like showing him the nerf bat but not actually hitting him with it.

Are you joking on the Talon thing? Part of what makes him so good is that he can continually Rake to harass AND farm w/o running low on mana. Now he has to be more careful and choose which he wants to do unless the enemy makes it stupidly easy for him. Can't lane indefinitely.

My point is you're not always going to get the matchup you rune for, especially if it's for Talon, who does easily holds his own top lane against bruisers, does extremely well against casters in mid, and can do well bottom, given it's not a stupidly strong lane.
