The DLC is Joker, Geno, Erdrick, Duster and Banjo.

You heard it here first folks!
I would have legitimately no complaints whatsoever about this line-up.

Also, not gonna lie, but with his limp, his staples, and what he does have under his arsenal, Duster could actually have the potential to be a REALLY interesting character, even if rather gimmicky. Like, give me that, thanks.

well, I think E3 could still have the 3rd character.

I don't see why not; just show them off at some point, maybe the first thing, then show off Animal Crossing or whatever.

also stage builder ftw.

It could be under a different segment or this is a build that doesn't have it on the menu yet. I can't recall the menus with photographic memory, though, only muscle memory, so I could so easily be wrong, haha.
There's really nowhere else for something like Home Run Contest to go on the menu though. Of the other tabs, it won't fit under Smash, Spirits, or Online. The Other tab doesn't have anything with actual gameplay on it, so I doubt it would be there. Really, it makes complete sense for it to be under Games & More...

That said, I guess it could be released at a later date compared to Stage Builder. Though this whole thing is hilarious in how it leaked.

I'd prefer Porky or Ninten for the Mother character, but I'd be quite satisfied with this lineup. Though I'm expecting someone like Ryu Hayubusa or Phoenix Wright to show up in DLC honestly over two Square characters. Maybe even Lloyd from Tales.

Ryu cannot happen: it was confirmed via interview that they would pick a DoA character if approached but that they were not approach.

Personally, my predicted line-up is something like this:

1) Joker (obviously)
2) Square rep (Erdrick/Sora/Geno, personally betting Erdrick)
3) Microsoft rep (Banjo or someone else? pls banjo pls gibe me)
4) Tales character, probably Yuri Lowell or Lloyd Irving
5) Phoenix Wright or another similarly wild pick

Tales getting not even spirits or anything makes me wonder a teeeeeeny bit. Only a teeny bit. That being said, I could so easily see it getting a rep. Phoenix's chances are nice, too.

I feel like the only person that doesn't give a crap about stage builder or home run contest. Unless they really change up home run contest or add way more options to stage builder and make it way better I don't see myself messing with either that much. kinda hoping we get more than this whenever we learn more on the 3.0.0 update.

Do you have a source on that one? Because I've never heard it and I can't find it. Not to mention, I don't think they really get a say in that, I'm pretty sure Sakurai would be the one who would approach them and he'd have a specific character in mind.

Also technically, Ryu is a DoA character too lol.

I'd say it makes sense to see a character revealed in a Direct this month, then have them release the day of E3 or something and they reveal another character. I always kind of figured they'd drop one, reveal the next and sort of go with that approach with DLC so we always have some idea of what's coming next. It makes a lot of sense to me... but Nintendo doesn't always do the sensible thing and I may be overestimating how much of the DLC will be ready at certain points in time.

It's fine to not really care about it, but since it will be presumably a free update, I don't think there's a whole lot of room to really complain about it. Not every piece of content will be directed towards any individual taste and there will be several people extremely happy with the return of this mode, especially if it's done better than in the past. I wouldn't be entirely surprised at all if those are the only big modes we get in this update because they would represent major free additions to the game.

I wasn't really complaining and I certainly have no issues with the modes returning, just saying these things themselves aren't going to really excite me, unless they really expand on them in some interesting ways.

Sorry, might have jumped the gun a little bit on that and taken it a bit more harshly than you intended. They certainly aren't for everyone, but I'm also decently convinced that Sakurai might do a more proper job with Stage Builder this time. Plus, we could see a really cool character announcement or something else unique.

That said, i personally would also like to see more. I just really want there to be a dedicated Boss Battle mode and a Master Hand Smash or something that basically lets me play the Master Hand segment from World of Light whenever I want. Those seem like such simple modes to really make to give some extra variety to Ultimate that basically already exist in the game and just need more specific coding to work...

I think people really sleep on a Tales rep. I've never played the games, but I just get this strong sense that Namco will eventually get a 2nd rep and Tales just feels like the most likely series.

I'm not particularly excited for yet another JRPG protagonist with a sword, but I guess Lloyd is decently requested and there are plenty of fans that would be happy.

Personally, I would prefer Namco choose the Prince of All Cosmos, but he is in Pac-Man's taunt I think.

Also, I think we won't see any more Capcom representation in Ultimate given all the love they received in the base game for SF and Mega Man alone, not to mention an echo.

I feel like a Koei Techmo or Bethesda rep is likely, but I definitely agree it can be a wilder character like Crash or Travis Touchdown..

Banjo, Erdrick, Lloyd, and... Probably Ryu Hayabusa are my predictions. Although I am still holding out hope for Geno as a bonus fighter!

Honestly, Geno would be a really cool bonus fighter. As a hypothetical post-Fighter's Pass bonus fighter you can get for buying the entire pass in a certain amount of time, then being sold normally, he'd be a funny mirror to Nov. 1st with Piranha Plant. Starting off with a crazy Mario pick, ending with a fan favorite Mario pick. That'd be so sick.

I agree 100% and I think that would be such a cool idea to bookend the fighters pass with these Mario characters!

Not gonna lie - while there is so much momentum, speculation wise, regarding Erdrick, I still personally feel good about maybe seeing Geno as a DLC fighter. He would be a fun surprise for outside the pass!

Also, I think doing a second "promotion" fighters pass and then a third "echoes" fighter pass would be awesome.

I would promote... I guess Isaac, Waluigi, Ashley, Takamaru, and Skull Kid

Then for the echoes pass I would promote Shadow and The Black Knight, while including Medusa, Ninten, and Dixie Kong.

OK, I can have a little fun with a theoretical, optimal future for DLC too.

For reference, this is what I expect in terms of characters right now (Note, none of these are any particular order of release):

Fighter's Pass - Joker, Erdrick, Ryu Hayubusa, Banjo Kazooie (I've become a believer with recent events and I also need some optimism in my life haha), and Lloyd Irving.

I'm sticking to just one DLC season as well for the time being, it's just way too early to tell how much of an interest Sakurai has in continuing the production of DLC.

If we do get more characters, then I think that first pass can stay as is and we can just add from there:

Fighter's Pass 2 - Waluigi, Geno, Isaac, Bandanna Dee, and Dixie Kong ; IF we go heavy on third party DLC in the first season of content, I'd expect to see some more first party content show up in the second one. And I think going for a more fan focused approach would work out well for them. Waluigi and Isaac have lots of outcry for being current assist trophies, so I'd imagine they'd be among the first to be upgraded. The other three all have a chance now and I just think with more DLC they become more likely.

Fighter's Pass 3 - Crash Bandicoot, Phoenix Wright, Captain Toad, 8th gen Pokemon, and another advertising rep of some sort. Just some sort of cleanup of other characters that have a chance/are interesting to me personally.

You could rearrange a lot of them to fit in different spots and moments and I'm not sure the second pass would be exclusively requests, but I think this would be a pretty compelling three seasons of Smash DLC with lots of good solid picks (I'm still not sure on Mother even though I do support another character in the Ultimate, so I left Porky/Ninten off for now) and some reasonable roster expansion type picks with some room for advertisement. I'd also even go as far as to add some free Echoes in because I think Free Echoes is a great way to bolster the roster. I think Shadow's the clear and obvious choice for such a position. But from there, I'm less sure.

It'd be awesome to see three seasons of DLC. It really would be, I just can't say I'm convinced we'll see past the first yet and its also way too early to tell.

Hey, spreading misinformation! Good to see that old sport is still going.

1. The interview was with the producer of DoA6, not the creator of the series or anyone with whom Sakurai would actually speak about Smash inclusion. Even if there was a Dead or Alive character in Smash this guy would likely not know.

2. The question posed wasn't what Tecmo Koei character he would include (the guy isn't high enough on the hierarchy to decide that kind of thing), it was specifically what DoA character he would ask for Sakurai to include.

3. He never said that the only series that could get in Smash is Dead or Alive.

Hey, being a self-absorbed prick! Good to see that old sport is still going.

1. I found that out via research while trying to find the interview myself to stand by it. The guy seems to not have much credibility or be in a position to know.

2. I was about to correct myself here but you had to jump your elitist ass into it and do it for me. You saved me some trouble I suppose, but the smarmy remark was unnecessary.

3. I never said that ANYONE said only DoA could get in from Koei Techmo, rather that this person mentioned that they would go for DoA over Ninja Gaiden, but since they have no power of position it's merely a preference and not an official statement of possibility.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On a similarly irritating note, this means that Hayabusa should still be possible, unless something else big came out about him...and although Master Chief HAS been deconfirmed, Doomguy has not despite extreme gorn porn being central to his character.

On the VERY low chance that we are in the bad timeline and Nintendo has somehow made us wait this long to reveal the Dragon Quest 3 protagonist for Smash, while this doesn't automatically mean that Hayabusa and Doomguy are in, I'll gladly assume that stupid list to be correct until further notice and proceed to wait until the Switch gets a price-drop to pick up it and the game rather than trying desperately and eagerly to get my hands on one.

Hell, I would probably check out of all speculation for a good six months just so I could forget the day in which Nintendo screwed up their biggest hype machine yet.

No offense was meant, but you really should have done due diligence before posting, not after. This interview is really old news and keeping the cycle of misinformation going is not that hard.
rather that this person mentioned that they would go for DoA over Ninja Gaiden
Also this statement is untrue. The person never brings up a preference for DoA over Ninja Gaiden or over anything else, as it's the interviewer who brings up DoA in Smash. In fact, Ninja Gaiden isn't mentioned at all in the interview.

Nah, Doomguy and Steve would be hype for many Smash players, despite the circlejerks on this board. I don’t care for either but you can’t deny they’re recognisable and their series are well loved and successful. Erdrick would also be big in Japan, despite it being such a seemingly open secret now, your average consumer doesn’t follow “leaks”.

This pessimism is silly. You can’t ignore that K Rool and Ridley, characters a lot of casual users are apathetic to, were added mainly to please our demographic, hardcore Smash fans. People only have their own expectations to blame for disappointment, and the rebound effect post November direct is astonishing. From expecting 7 of the most wanted fan characters to expecting **** like Katalina and muh Gen 8 Pokemon/FE waifu.

I fell for the Grinch leak too and I was disappointed too but man, a fighting game roster triggering extreme negative emotion like that just ain’t healthy.

I’m optimistic for Banjo, cautiously hopeful for Geno and predicting Phoenix Wright. Dixie is my most wanted, but I just can’t see her as likely yet sadly.

If the list of Erdrick, Ryu, Steve and Doomguy came true, I would be hyped for literally none of them honestly. But I’ve now got a K Rool amiibo revived from the dead alongside EVERYONE IS HERE. At this point, I’m glad for the fans of anyone who’s character makes it.

And if it matters, I’m sure that “leak” is bull**** like most “leaks” people like to scare themselves with. And by themselves I mean the hardcore Smash community, Ryu and Doomguy weren’t added to spite Geno and Banjo.

No beef with anyone, this thread is cool and you guys are cool. I’m just tired of the victim complex that the Smash fanbase are prone to

I totally agree with you on this one! The second wave should be more focused on Nintendo IP, I love the list. I would prefer Cranky Kong instead of Dixie, but that's just me lol

I second this because as much as I want more 3rd parties in Smash, 1st parties are also important and there's definitely a list of deserving 1st parties to be added.

I don't care who fits Brave's stats anymore, for all we know this could be a "Daroach seen from above!" situation.
That was my favorite troll moment from the Pokemon anime. Ash goes to take the Pokemon exam, and they show him the silhouette of a perfect circle. "Who's that pokemon???" Ash: Obviously, it's a voltorb! "Wrong! It's a Jigglypuff as seen from above!" lol

Yeah I’m convinced this (and probably the Best Buy stuff) were on purpose.
You don't suppose even Nintendo employees are tired of waiting at this point? Or there's a severe lack of communication, if they weren't supposed to reveal the new mode until like two weeks later.

This situation is pretty unusual, when's the last time that something has been leaked via a commercial?

All I can think of are Ness and Jigglypuff getting leaked via sticker sheets in Brawl and Ganondorf being leaked early in game footage for Smash 4.

Ganondorf was leaked through a Sm4sh 3DS commercial once. He was off-screen in a shot , but they quicky removed the video.

They also leaked Pokemeon trainer , Lucario and Jiglypuff when they revealed stickers in Brawl , they also quickly removed it.

But honestly , with how stressful working in Smash can be , I ain't gonna blame them for messing up stuff like that...

Welp, looks like Gaming Intel was full of it.

They only get good leaks when money is involved, and even then they were not only shady but mostly incorrect.

Here's to waiting another couple weeks! :ultbrawler:

Ryu doesn't in any way, shape, or form guarantee the rest of the leak to be true. I'd argue Ryu is one of the more reasonable predictions and picks for Smash DLC period. Koei Tecmo has worked extremely closely with Nintendo the past several years with stuff like Metroid Other M, Hyrule Warriors, and Fire Emblem Warriors. They also originally released the much improved version of Ninja Gaiden 3, Razor's Edge, exclusively for the Wii U's launch. They have a very close working relationship, and given that the Ninja Gaiden trilogy is another classic NES franchise that has had influence on the industry and people generally cite when referring to the classics of the NES.

I'd argue he's one of the most sensible picks for DLC period given that history and relationship. I've always thought it was weird that he's not in Smash given all of that and the fact that Koei is another Japanese developer who I'd presume would love to be in Smash.

Meanwhile, Bayonetta has nudity and massive sex appeal as central to her character, yet she's in Smash. And while sex and nudity are more commonly accepted in Japan than say the United States, she still released all the same. They found a compromise to include her in the game. It's not like it's impossible to tune down the Doom Guy's violence. The original Doom was bloody for sure, but pales in comparison to most modern media and naturally the 2016 DOOM. You can emphasize power weapons and brutality. Hell, they did just that with Ridley's inclusion by emphasizing cruelty as his main angle. He straight up killed Mega Man in the reveal trailer. That's not some insurmountable character trait to deal with in Smash.

I get that characters may not appeal to you as an individual, but don't conflate that fact with them being anti-hype picks. I've said it before and I'll say it again, adding franchises like DOOM, Dragon Quest, and Ninja Gaiden to Smash not only make a whole lot of sense, but also will generate more hype generally than some people in the character support threads like to admit. Those are big third party franchises to add, and regardless of any supposed "leaks" or whatever, they all independently have a decent shot to get into Smash. But again, in no way does any single one of them indicate that the others are coming and they should not be treated as such. I know some in the community will latch on to that idea and cause frustrations, but just do what we already do and ignore those people.
