I get why people are disappointed but given the fact that insiders are so pissed/dumbfounded and that there are going to be more installments of these minis I have a feeling that the hype was warranted. They clearly were teasing at genuine things. But Nintendo likely decided last minute not to do that so the things they were hinting at didn’t get shown.
But if that’s true and so many people were hinting at Geno.........
I feel like if these mini directs happen biweekly or maybe monthly, it could be really cool.

But that would require constant streams of information and I'm not confident on that.
I posted this in response to another user in the Newcomer thread, and I'll post it again here...

I can only speak for myself here, but I think the "more videos in this series will be released this year" bit made the Direct mini a lot easier to swallow, with Kelios saying that we'll be getting another Direct with first-party stuff shortly afterwards helping a bit. Even if this Direct mini wasn't too exciting for me, at least I can rest easy with the possibility that more is on the way shortly.

Honestly I'm surprised at no Doom release date, I thought that was a given. It would take, like, a minute and they couldn't even do that.
I know! If they're really splitting the announcements by weeks, the date is coming sooner rather than later!
Man, they did the insiders dirty by splitting into weeks. Talk about zigzag theory

Was saddened by no 3d Mario remasters or BOTW 2 but happy Shin Megami Tensei fans finally got their trailer after 4 years + a remake

As someone who struggles with spiraling out of control on negativity and complaining about things that can't be helped to the point of actually depressing people around me, I think it's time for some good news. Let's think about all the nice things we got out of this:

Geno wasn't deconfirmed in any way shape or form, and in fact, a lot of insiders have heard him and have spoken up about him, which is crazy.
Pokemon didn't show up in this direct at all which is nice because we're all sick and ****ing tired of that ****.
Shin Megami Tensei V, one of the sacred vaporware titles, has a release date. And we're getting a remaster of Nocturne, which has funny skeleton matador.
Japan started their direct off with a really neat looking action game that hopefully will see a release here.
Cadence of Hyrule is getting a physical release with all the DLC.
Nintendo is getting bull**** titles out of the way, thus leaving more room for big things when they finally give us the hype.

And that's just the stuff off the top of my head.

This last part was really not necessary. As someone who understood what you were talking about, this doesn't give you the right to sneak-diss anyone here. Making a post like that is just asking to start something. Just be nice.

Can't wait to see Personababs get filtered by the funny skeleton, ooohhhh boy. They better not add an easy mode to Nocturne.

Alright, time to go do what Nintendo expects me to do and go play Paper Mario. Hopefully Nintendo will bust out the big E3 content soon!

The only way Geno would be deconfirmed is if the Mii Costume returned. Other than that, there is still a lot more going on in his favor, even if today's direct was less than satisfactory for most

Honestly, this sounded more like an obligation to show these, and then the "real" direct is coming sometime in August or even September...

If they were doing a real direct they would just save the third party announcements for then. Given the fact they literally announced more of these were coming we aren't getting a full general direct anytime soon, maybe not even this year. That doesn't mean we aren't getting first party announcements though, I think I'm going to go big picture and write something up, I think right now we just need to chill and think.

Er, yikes? I don’t think any of us in the Geno thread actually harassed any insider or anybody. We’re just upset the way Nintendo handled things.

Something I can't stand about this community is that people tell us we need to appreciate and like every single announcement Nintendo gives us, like we're not allowed to be disappointed or even angry. As consumers, we are 100% allowed to be disappointed and angry at an announcement, just like how some people are 100% allowed to be excited or hyped at an announcement. If we personally find something disappointing, we have every right to get our voices heard and talk about our disappointment. Just because we all love Nintendo, it does not mean we have to agree with every decision they make. They are a company filled with millions of people, so they are bound to make mistakes from time to time. They are FAR from perfect and whenever they do make a mistake, people are most certainly allowed to address it.

Sorry if I sound like I'm yelling at clouds right now, but I seriously hate that mindset. I just can't stand when people act like Nintendo does no wrong and that we should just appreciate what we have, because that isn't how consuming products is supposed to work. Nintendo isn't immune to criticism like people think they are, and if I disagree or am disappointed in the company, you better believe I will be addressing it.
This is why I've come to dislike Smash, Sakurai and especially the fanboys of those two alongside Nintendo fanboys. You express your disdain for something, you get bombarded by people telling you to be thankful or be happy with what you were given. That is the worst mindset to have. Just because someone works hard on something doesn't entitle them to blind praise and compliments. I'm recently reminded of that #ThankYouGameFreak movement. As a Pokemon fan that has since fell back from the series since Gen VI, I couldn't believe people were that adverse to the criticism that were given to GameFreak for their underwhelming approach to obtaining Pokemon and outright keeping certain Pokemon behind a paywall and DLC. It's one thing if people let it be, it's another thing to not only call fans entitled for not wanting a third of the roster only, but to outright buy the game not because you look forward to the game, but simply to spite those who won't.

That mindset allows companies and developers to get away with doing the bare minimum, not listening to critique is how you end up with three instances of a battle system that has no incentive for you to partake in and addressing would-be critiques that in any other sequel, would be addressed, making for a better game. I'll tie this in to Smash to further prove my point: Still images are not worthy content. Pasting a few promotional art pieces from Eternal Darkness is not acknowledging Eternal Darkness, it's a cheap way to pretend that you care about it. Slapping five stars on artwork of characters people want is not doing them justice. And worst of all, a poorly made costume is not a good thing, it only makes you want the real thing, IE King ****ing K. Rool. Me ******** and moaning about that costume led to him coming to Ultimate and it was because I didn't settle for less that his overall inclusion and reception have been as big as it was. As a consumer, I was happy with what I saw and made it clear by buying Ultimate. As a consumer that tried out the product given to me, I was not happy with certain choices made with the game in terms of content, characters and features. That is not being ungrateful, that is me giving my input on said product. You are not ungrateful for constructive criticism.

Same with assists, settling for a cameo of a beloved character that only appears in 40% of the stages isn't a good thing, it's a copout. Compromises are never to be made in any shape or form, Consider the fights had in real life over varying things, rights, power, equality, money, economic freedom, etc. Do you think any of the would-be accomplishments in history would take place if people simply were grateful for what they had (or didn't)? Sorry to get to that point, but settling for less is never ideal. It starts with a silly cartoon character throwing bombs and goes to bigger matters like whether or not you and your family are allowed to live your lives as seen fit without oppression.

Short version: If you're mad about this, you have every right to be. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. You are not ungrateful for constructive criticism.
Fatmanonice Fatmanonice take a break from this place. That is all I can suggest. Sometimes you have to fall back and collect your thoughts and zen. You've done a great amount of service for everyone here and in spite of things, at the very least you can take solace that a few people share your sentiments right now.

I just wanna clarify that just because people make mistakes and should be criticized from time to time, that does NOT mean harassing people is acceptable. People these days often forget the difference between criticizing and harassing. Criticizing something means to look at something from all types of angles and to give your honest thoughts about something and discuss what should be improved. This is basically a non-toxic way of addressing an issue with someone or something. Harassment on the other hand, is a form of bullying and it is something I don't condone whatsoever. I've been bullied tons of times throughout my life, and it is an absolutely disgusting thing to have to go through everyday. What people are doing to Kelios or even some people at Nintendo is absolutely disgusting, and THAT is when I put my foot down on when criticism goes a bit too far.

Like I said a few pages ago, people and companies make mistakes and are allowed to be criticized, but I'm just adding on to the fact that harassing people is not acceptable and no one deserves that treatment whatsoever.

You got SMTV and a SMT III Remake.

That's your hype thing.

I don't even like SMT, but I acknowledge its a big deal even if it doesn't appeal to me.

It essentially carried the whole thing.
Not to mention that Cadence getting a massive DLC dump a year later is really impressive too. I'm fuming right now and could bite a telephone pole in half but I'll STILL say you lovely and understanding MFs should be optimistic about the future and I'll say why:

-SMT was vaporware for 3 1/2 years. Kelios flat out called this "filler." That should give you an idea of stuff that's in the pipeline.

-SMT on the NSO really was a hint about the future and should make us consider other things.

Now for two big things:

-3 of 4 of Mii Costume Guy's secret Mii costumes have now had summer announcements or leaks tied to them as of today.

-Cadence of Hyrule was just the beginning of Nintendo indie projects. There's more on the way. From my own sources, at least four, all different Nintendo IPs, and two have a decent chance of showing up by the end of the summer, especially with Cadence DLC being "filler" according to Kelios.

I'm wildly annoyed but, even then, I'd say we're on track for good things in the near future.

Apparently the F-Zero account just posted some weird gay porno. It's definitely fake.

For a second, I thought Nintendo actually cared about the series. Feels bad man.

That was an... interesting video though. :ultfalcon:

Well, don´t expect Kellos leaking anything Nintendo related ever again
https://twitter.com/PushDustIn/status/1285222501417533442

And people wonder why I say "overhyping" yourself in advance is unhealthy
Nintendo fans have a ****ing harassment problem. It's not just Smash fans targeting certain groups (with Geno's, Isaac's, and Waluigi's getting trash all the time), it's just Nintendo fans normalizing widespread bullying across the board.

Enough is enough. These lobotomized man-children don't deserve **** from Nintendo after their behavior. Poor Kellos.
It's the most frustrating part about being a leaker for Nintendo stuff (well, besides potentially getting someone fired or getting into legal trouble). If fans (specifically the crazies) think you've gotten something wrong, they harass the **** out of you or even try to cancel you.

I know I am salty and will get over it since I got plenty of things to keep my happy and occupied. And, in time, eventually, maybe, Nintendo will get back on track. At the moment, this meme comes to mind regarding Nintendo's decision making:

I feel the insiders were right, just they only heard about today’s presentation and assumed everything would be in it. Either that, or Nintendo changed the schedule last minute. No way this many insiders hear and imply good stuff and it all ends up fake.

There appears to be evidence for this multiple presentation thing considering the further maintenance happening in the coming weeks and what ResetEra dudes and others have discussed. Kelios seems to imply this as well. Of course, we could just get a single Direct with everything sometime later, though I think Nintendo implied more minis which kinda helps the former thing.

I have to say I am more on the pessimistic side of things but I am really curious to see what is next for Nintendo now that they literally have nothing left at this point. The Mario stuff is like the worst kept secret ever but it is such an exciting development, I just want to see it happen. I can't imagine how amazing that would look.

Also wanted to point out that Scribe covered the Delzethin video for Geno. Go give him and the site a super nice shout out for covering it. :]

Knowing my luck with getting things I want, this was bound to happen. Glad I didn't jump on board with this completely. Still hope the Geno stuff doesn't have the same fate.

If this mini direct format is how things are going to be until the fall presumably, let's just hope they go on for longer than 8 minutes and deliver more news that doesn't leave us feeling drained.

While Nintendo news has been a dumpster fire lately and that Direct was pretty bad (though I like SMT), as people have been saying...

Look on the bright side, Geno is still in great standing. Sure this Direct was kinda bullocks, but why were insiders talking up Super Mario RPG last night? I know some people will hand-wave those things away as "jokes" but... really? Insiders just randomly decided to start discussing Super Mario RPG before the rumored Direct (that was supposed to focus on Mario)? Nah, I don't buy that. I think, as people said, insiders did have legitimate info and we do have reason to be hyped. It just depends when Nintendo will get off their butts and actually give us 1st party Nintendo news. Nevertheless, isn't it great Geno is in such good standing?

Also, I know everyone already said to not attack people, so I'll offer up a different statement: How about certain users stop being condescending towards people and the thread at large, yeah? Most people aren't little babies and we recognize these are just video games. But being condescending towards people and acting like you're above them is just asinine. You're not our teacher or parent who needs to scold us. You can make a point once and move on, you don't have to keep beating people's heads in with your point. You're not above them. And if users keep doing that, then I'd prefer if those certain users didn't stick around. I'm not gonna directly call specific people out, but I think most people know which users I'm referring to. That's not gatekeeping or being "toxic", it's weeding out bad users to make the thread a better place. So please, either change your behavior or leave. We said the same things to other users in the past, so now is no different.

Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.

Alright, BIG picture time, forget the disappointment, let's take a step back and remember what we know, and what we learned today.
  • Nintendo has announced there will be more of these Partner Showcases. Given that they refered to it as the "July Showcase" this is likely going to be a monthly/bi-monthly thing for awhile where third parties announce/showcase games for Switch.
  • Because of that, it seems no major general direct, or even a normal mini, is planned at the moment. If there was, why would they be doing these showcases for third parties?
  • Regardless of how you feel about Insiders, they were completely right on the date, hell Kelios was right on time with the ANNOUNCEMENT AT 12 IN THE MORNING. Did they greatly overestimate and overhype what was going to be here? Yep. Does that mean everything they think is happening is suddenly fake? Probably not.
  • Everything still points towards Nintendo making Mario's 35th a big deal this year and this doesn't change that. It does beg the question of when the hell they are going to reveal the collection, especially since everyone was apparently sure it's going to be announced soon for a VERY CLOSE release like Origami King was.
  • In case people forgot, the amiibo releases still heavily imply a Smash character releasing in September/early October. Well, if we've established that Nintendo isn't probably doing another General Direct, or even a standard mini, then we are either getting it revealed in YET ANOTHER Smash Presentation in September, or a specifically first party presentation soon.
Nintendo isn't COMPLETELY insane people. They have games prepared for the rest of 2020, I can feel it. The question is more when than anything at this point.

You know what...I have a crazy prediction we're probably not gonna get the next smash character until a new Sakurai Presents gets announced maybe around September. Heck I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo & Sakurai wants to keep doing this kind of thing so they don't randomly drop a character trailer with a release like Fall 2020 or Winter 2020 and Sakurai and his team may run into some issues with said character and can't release it on said time.

I'm wondering if, after Geno gets in, I should revert to the pre-Ultimate state of not only not caring about leaks, but also being completely unaware of them.
