Yep, can you guess what they would be based off of? If I recall, one isn’t based on anything actually.

The red one seems Mario-based, and the last one is the atypical "Dark" costume. Blue is probably mallow. Green looks like it could be Bowser or Luigi. Pink is Peach.

The dark one reminds me of a Heartless actually. It's probably the full yellow eyes.

I doubt she would be a mii costume, unfortunately her attire isn't that different from normal casual clothes. I just cant see her character translating well into a recognizable mii costume. If anything I feel like at that point she just wouldn't be included at all.

Worrying about the move set of a character is fairly pointless with a game like this. They've made characters like Duck Hunt and Pac man work just fine with their limited material, and as MonkeyDLenny mentioned earlier there are gimmicks that could be implemented into her game play.

Unfortunately for Sora and Geno she has way more of a legacy to actually warrant her inclusion in a game that apparently celebrates video game history.

Between Sora, Lara, and 2B(I think shes owned by square right?), Geno does have a lot of solid competition if we are expecting to only see one square affiliated character in this pass.

Really? I feel like her tank top plus shorts and combat boots and possibly ponytail as headgear are very iconic and would be pretty easy to do as a mii costume.

I think the issue with a more “realistic” character like Lara Croft is that she doesn’t have as much wiggle room for a creative moveset outside of shooting guns in the way that cartoony characters like Duck Hunt and Pac-Man do. Although Sakurai has made concessions before it still seems like he wants to be faithful to the characters he brings in.

Legacy can mean many different things. I don’t think it solely means “this character has been in a lot of games”. Banjo-Kazooie have a legacy and they were only in 6 games total. Geno has a legacy in that he’s the most popular OC from the first Mario RPG game and one that to this day is one of the clearest representations of Square and Nintendo’s business relationship.

Also I feel it’s fair to point out that unlike Sora, 2B, and Lara Croft Geno was explicitly said by Sakurai to be a character he really liked, wanted to be playable, and actually tried to put in back in Brawl. I feel that in an era where Sakurai has shown a preference for putting in both characters he personally likes and those that are fan favorites that Geno and Sora rise above a lot of SE names people usually come up with.

Are they based on his various capes? Is third on the top the star cape? Below that is Boshi I think. Next to that is Mallow. Above Mallow is Frogfucius? I’m kicking myself in the pink one because I know it’s something. Yellow/silver is smithy. I think the very last one in the right bottom isn’t based on anything.

Okay, so the first one is based off of Geno from Super Mario RPG.
The second one is based off of the Fuzzy Cape, one of his armors from the game.
The third one is inspired by the Star Cape, aka 'Murica Geno, one of his armors from the game.
The fourth is based off of Smithy, the main villain of the game.
The fifth is based off of Domino, one of the last bosses fought in the game.
The sixth is based off of Mallow.
The seventh is based off of Johnny Jones.
And the eighth and final one is based off of the Heartless from Kingdom Hearts.

When you type "Video Game Characters" into google and the first image you get is of Lara Croft, that is pretty impressive. I guess when I say legacy, she is up there with icons like Mario, Master Chief, DK, Crash Bandicoot, etc..
Sora and Geno just aren't at that level.

However, you do make a lot of valid points for Geno's inclusion, and I really hope he makes the cut. Unfortunately, (and definitely correct me here if im wrong)nowhere has it been stated that Sakurai is getting the Final say for the second dlc pack. I don't necessarily believe that previous statement holds true, to the second season. I thought this was just the case for the first?

Personally I don't even think he had full control of the DLC for Smash Ultimate, its probably a more back and forth situation. Basicallty Nintendo give Sakurai a list of possible characters to chose from. He picks 5, and submits it to his higher ups for approval. That process probably repeats until everyone agrees.

Also considering he initially wanted him for Brawl,but still didn't add him in the wii u version is a bit troubling. I wonder what the reason for that was, and will it still be applied towards Ultimate?

Oh I love it, but I have to say, once I had an idea for his recolors playing with different types of wood. Like white spotted birch, red redwood, dark spruce, etc.

Yeah, I figured that'd be the case, since it'd be absolute hell to have to wait 2 years for 6 characters when the Fighter Pass dropped 5 characters plus Piranha Plant within the space of about 1 year.

While I get the point you're trying to make, this statement is just straight-up wrong. Duck Hunt and Wii Fit Trainer were 100% fabricated. Duck Hunt is a combination of old NES shooter games and Wii Fit's kit is just a bunch of yoga poses (minus the energy ball which is lol random). I'm sure you could circle jerk the logic as to how they somehow weren't forced into existence by Sakurai's creativity, but any argument in their favor could just as easily be applied to literally any character you can imagine. Waluigi has been in Olympic crossovers, Mario Tennis, Mario Strikers and Dance Dance Revolution. You could make a coherent moveset from dancing and sports alone. And it's not to say that inventing a moveset is necessarily a bad thing. Lots of people try to bash Geno as not having an interesting possible moveset, but we should all know that isn't true. It's just a matter of understanding the character's background...and of course the desire to invest in it.

It really doesn't do anything to Sol's chances. River City and Guilty Gear are pretty far removed. That said, if Ragna gets in over Sol; then Sol is pretty much dead.

Another example would be RE getting spirited; but that does nothing for Phoenix and Dante's chances.

I can clarify we weren't that off-topic, not as much as I thought.

I'll just keep it simple(I think both movesets weren't filler, but full of coherency, though). Anyway, in a moveset, you need more than animations. You need a goal in how they fight. How they can chain attacks to each other. What kind of mechanics they have. Moves don't stand alone. Archtypal characters highly exist. Hence, they're coherent movesets that aren't purely fill in the blanks. There's no denying that some moves can easily be filler too, of course. Gotta go with something, but they're generally balanced around the character's design regardless. No moveset is made poorly to begin with. Of course it doesn't mean they're perfect either. Brawl Meta Knight and Smash 4 Bayonetta were both problematic. Even Bayo's nerf wasn't enough to somewhat weaken her to being anything but the best. She had halfway decent competition, but still.

...Okay, somewhat simple.

Sol has a cool gun arm, so that's neat. Unique weaponry, like Geno.

Again, all it really proves is that Arc Sys is open to the idea of Smash. But at this point, who isn't?

Some would say Disney would be too greedy/hard to work with, so Sora can't get in. But I disagree. Disney literally put Wreck it Ralph in a Sonic Racing Game with TF 2's Heavy, so I doubt even they would be hard to work with.

Going back to Geno IF he does get in; I would want his alts to change the color of wood/material he's made of too.

Im still pretty optimist and confident about Geno being playable. 100% happening. I can wait a bit longer but I just hope they announce something else sooner than E3. I can see Crash at #76 to make a huge external impact; and Geno being #77 to make a huge internal impact (Crash for the world and Geno for the epic fanbase).

Geno is the perfect character, acknowledged by Sakurai, perfect moveset, perfect design, music, taunts, skins and he even has a victory theme. His A and B buttons are already designed in his original game, he is from the first Mario “RPG” game, and he has been requested for 24 years. He is a perfect addition like Mega Man or many are. He has everything ready that Sakurai and the Team can translate to Smash. Hope they announce him at least on March 9, when Geno gets officially 24 years (based on his Japanese release).

In terms of numbers, it would be nice if he fits at #77. The 7th DLC and the 7th Star. (Plant was a bonus that’s why I say the 7th DLC is the 7th Star.

Smash is already perfect like I said many times, the roster is unbelievable. I have never played any of the sagas there ( like Fire Emblem, Animal Crossing or many others), but I’m glad with any addition in this masterpiece of game, this Celebration of Gaming, like Sakurai said.

My favorite moment was Mega Man reveal. Then, Banjo reveal. But I’m pretty sure Geno’s reveal and Geno’s awakening will be pure perfection. CGI trailer, the dolls, the route, then the gameplay with a rock remixed Forest Maze, Stars stuff with Rosalina and Kirby. Anything they do, will be brilliant. This character deserves this spot. It’s happening.

Long time Geno fan from 1990. He is one of my favorites heroes with Link & Mega Man.

Maybe? This is the first time this has happened, so it's hard to tell right now. Sakurai probably has connections with every major company in the Japanese games industry, so I don't think it would be too difficult getting any Japanese company on board. In fact; I wouldn't be surprised if this stuff starts happening more frequently considering how many popular companies still aren't in Smash, but may end up getting spirits instead.

I would at least expect Blazblue/Guilty Gear spirits in the future. And they may even get a character too. From what I've heard Sakurai was a fan of Blazblue back in the day so...

But yeah, nothing is guaranteed and I wouldn't even consider Sol/Ragna that much more likely either.

I wouldn't be shocked if he was, considering his avid gaming. Would be cool to have a source for that though.

An ArkSys rep is certainly not guaranteed by this, but I do think it should be considered in the face of this next wave of DLC speculation. Who knows, they might decide to rep anime fighters.

It's just something I read back in the Smash 4 days, either that or I watched a video of it. It was a literal sentece in like 10 minutes of content; so I can't really trace it back, and a quick google search doesn't really show anything either.

I may have been hallucinating it; but I swear I heard it somewhere out there. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if Sakurai is into ArcSys fighters considering their popularity.
