Hey we’re never going to discriminate. It’s always nice to see the new generation of Geno/Mario RPG fans. I think it’s important to have new blood. Welcome to the team!
Thank you! I just finished the game today and I'm about to start a second playthrough so I can get 100%. Geno was legitimately the highlight of the game for me. His attacks were so satisfying and his moves we're so cool. I didn't take him out of my party once the whole game. I was thinking Geno blast would be cool as a down special. It could be charged and summon beams on either side of him while flash could be the final smash instead. Come to think of it blast could also work as a down smash.
I'm not particularly a Geno fan, but I'd like to see him in the game after being requested for so long. If he does get confirmed, I'll make it a priority to play through Super Mario RPG before the game launches, and see what all the hubbub is about, since I know almost nothing about the character. Then maybe I'll become a fan, too.
Even if he doesn’t, you should play it. It’s honestly just such a great game. Light, fun, humourous, and a great cast of characters whether you think Geno is or not. The gameplay is quite advanced for its time and there are all sorts of secrets to find.

Geno Blast is and has always been my favorite move of his. I will often use it even if I have Flash, just because it's so cool. I mean, the first time you use it, you have no idea what to expect--he charges, a sliver of light shoots up, and then...
It rains colorful death. Seriously, who would ever have seen it coming? That's one of the best parts about Geno--he looks unsuspecting, but then surprises you by turning into a cannon or firing shotgun shells from his elbow. Even at the very start, when Gaz is playing with Mario, you don't expect him to fire a freaking missle. But it happens, and you're just floored. He makes a strong impression, and it lasts. That's why he still has (And makes) fans today.

I'm just about 75% done with a run myself, actually. I couldn't help it, lol. Geno rocket-punched me right in the hype. He has remained in my party throughout the entire playthrough, naturally. Also giving a bit more time than usual to Mallow--I'm discovering this time just how useful some of the lower level specials like his thunderbolt and Geno's Beam are. It helps that I finally learned how to charge Geno's specials correctly...and hey, it only took 20 years.
Searched a bit around the web and found some more pictures and info on that Geno leak I had recreated earlier. There were actually two videos about it, which have sadly been removed from YouTube.
The first video starts with the Brawl opening, but within the cast at the end of the intro is Geno. Once in the menu, we are directed to the notifications tab, which has it's most recent message as "♡♪!?, the star warrior, has joined the brawl!". Under that notification is a message stating something about toggling the random character slot to find a hidden character. The video then goes to the CSS of Brawl, where after toggling said random slot, a new character is shown; Geno, but labeled as ♡♪!? instead. A Game & Watch CPU is chosen and the match begins on Pictochat. Geno enters as 7 stars surround the doll and cause it to grow. Right after the timer ends, the game freezes and subsequently crashes.
The second video contained Geno and Ridley on the Pictochat stage. Geno was visible, but Ridley's name only appeared on the bottom of the Pictochat stage. The camera zooms into Ridley's name on the stage, and then onto Geno's model before the video ends.
The crashes and missing Ridley model were said to be because Geno and Ridley were only unfinished code within the game. Here are the only remaining screenshots of this video. It's angles of the Geno model on Pictochat, as well as a full 360° view in another program.
While obviously fake, it's really interesting yet sad that we won't be able to see this video. The fact that this video was created before Brawl hacking/modding was even a thing really put a lot of people on the Geno train.
Was going through my computer when I found this gem of a Brawl "leak".
It brought back such a wave of nostalgia for me, remembering all of the speculation around Geno and the whole "R.O.B. was going to be Geno" arguments. So I decided for old time's sake to recreate the leak. It took way too long than it should have.

Oh my gosh finally! I've been scouring the depths of Youtube looking for the slightest trace of the two videos you mentioned. I remember watching these a long time ago and gullible ol' me believed every second!
It is very unfortunate that the videos are no longer available but atleast with these screenshots I know it once existed. I must admit it was these very rumors that put Geno (heck Super Mario RPG itself) on my radar. It wouldn't be until years later that I actually got my hands on Legend of the Seven Stars where I was able to truly appreciate Geno as a unique character more than worthy enough of a shot in Smash Bros.
Btw this is my first post in the SmashBoards since the making of this profile but consider me a 100% supporter of Geno! (if it wasn't already obvious!) The stars really do seem to be alligned in his favor this time around.

I definitely agree about Geno blast. Geno flash looks a little dumb in comparison imo. But I could see a reimagined Geno flash being a really cool move. I'd picture it as kind of like firing a Lazer version of a power bomb from Metroid. Preferably without a face.
This guy does a great job. He has a very compelling voice, and he clearly did his homework on this one, which makes sense because he said he loved the game as a child. A lot of YouTubers are very boring, but he speaks very well.
I think Sakurai's comment about Geno means a lot. It sounds almost like he would have put Geno in if he could but something meant he literally couldn't. That would obviously be licensing issues which is no longer a problem. It sounded different from comments about some other characters. Like Sukapon was "considered" but Sakurai said he wanted to put Geno in but it didn't work out. I really think there's a very low chance of geno being excluded now.

Yeah I really love the tone of Delzethin's voice. It just has this homey sound, plus it's very engaging. He just has this way of making you enjoy his videos, even if they're not flashy or, as the kids call it, 'extra' in a visual sense. Plus he clearly does research on his topics before talking about them and bases his moveset concepts on source material instead of excessive creativity. Very articulate.
I could see it happening. Nintendo in particular would need a good reason to re-invest in Geno as a character, and Smash has been used to revive, reinvent, or invigorate and expand otherwise paling franchises in the past. Kid Icarus and Fire Emblem are two very prominent examples of this.
With that being said, what do I personally think? It's doubtful. Unless they're announced simultaneously and Geno in Smash is being used as promotional material for his next appearance, (which I certainly don't except to happen,) then I think an after-the-fact reveal would be unlikely, although not entirely outside the realm of possibility.

Nice avatar! I hope Forest Maze is Geno's home stage. I don't know if I'd have that, or maybe fighting on Blade while you travel through various places in SMRPG. Like Isle Delfino.

Blade would be pretty cool! Though I imagine it may be a bit difficult to do a tour stage like that, given they might have to get Squenix's permission for each location featured. Maybe just Blade itself, possibly over Barrel Volcano?
I just had the craziest idea for a stage myself...what about Exor? I mean, like, the whole sword, facing toward the screen. You'd fight on the hilt, and he could serve as both the stage and a stage boss/hazard. The eyes could cast spells, and could be attacked to disable them. And if both are shut down, then the Exor part at the top would be vulnerable, and anyone who takes it out gets a free spell used for them. The mouth could also occasionally shake the whole stage while doing that jabbering thing it does. Layout would be the sword hilt in the middle, with two of Bowser Keep's parapets on either side. The sword part could even shift up or down some, or even disappear when Exor is destroyed, only for another to come crashing back down after a few moments.
Iconic, interactive, and not another "walk off" stage. What do you all think?

SMRPG has a lot of really really good ideas for stages. I've heard Bowser's chandelier which would be great. Personally, I proposed a Bowyer Tree Stump stage, where Bowyer would shoot arrows at the characters on the stage and disable attacks like he does in the game. Booster's Tower would be great too, as would a transforming stage with Smithy.
Thanks! let's hope Sakurai lurks on Smashboards for ideas, lol. Honestly though, it seems like the kind of thing he would do--especially attacking the eyes. I can literally hear the clang sound from SMRPG's opening being used when the sword comes back down...and the big boss music would fit so perfectly.
I've heard some people mention Smithy's forge battle area too, with Smelter in the background making baddies...I can easily see that too, what with how the area hangs from chains over a pit.
Blade, Exor, Smithy's forge, Bowyer's stump...there are just so many perfect stages for SMRPG. That alone should boost Geno's chances!
Geno Boost, lol
Edit: ah! I forgot about Booster Tower! You're right--so many choices...

There are plenty of good stage ideas but aside from Geno himself Exor is possibly the single most iconic part of Mario rpg. It almost has to be the Geno stage. Plus we'd finally have a legit Bowser's castle stage as well.

I feel almost undeserving as a new Geno fan. You guys have been waiting years and years and been disappointed game after game and now you're probably about to get the character you've supported for so long. I literally just picked up Mario rpg for the first time last week and Geno has since become my obsession like Ridley before him and now I might be getting him after just a couple months and no disappointments.
Honestly, one of the things that I keep coming back to regarding characters like K.Rool or Geno is that I'm never sure if they're gaining new fans. Like, has their ship sailed? I know I would be excited by their inclusion, but the world at large is probably going to go 'who?', so it's nice to see the fanbase still growing.
Also, nice Custom Robo avvy. That game might've been a little rough around the edges but that didn't stop me from playing through it like, 30 times.

Thanks! A custom robo rep will always be my most wanted deep down but seeing as it's a pipe dream at this point my most wanted that I actually support is Geno for sure. Which fits because I'm used to my most wanted being a choice that gets made fun of.

I mentioned this before, but I legitimately think Geno's inclusion would be healthy for Smash as a whole because it could finally kill the "relevant" meme, allowing people to realize that their support of their most wanted characters isn't fruitless.
Went back to the beginning of the thread and saw word of a Discord server that never came to be. If anybody is still interested in that, I've created one!
The link is here if you would like to join. Right now it's just me and the bots. Hopefully we can get some people on it!
On the RTC thread, I gave him about 50%. While it seems on paper, 40 or 50% isn’t great, I think it’s actually quite high for this game. We are past the point of the obvious shoo-ins. Frankly the only shoo-in that I think there is, is Inkling, and they are already in the game. The rest of the characters I think will have between a 30-60% chance. I don’t really see any other characters with a higher chance. So even though 40% is less than half, I still personally think it’s pretty good.

I would have given him 50 just because of how sakurai said he always wanted him since brawl. also the fact that every mii costume in smash 4 has been showing up as an assist trophy or playable fighter. if it was either the two, geno should be playable. sak said he would be a perfect fit for smash
The only character I could think of, to have everything under the sun going for him and still have a 50/50 shot lol, but in all honesty I've never believed him to be so close as he is now. Hopefully Sakurai made it happen. He got the rights to Geno last time, and he's had over 2 years to make him.

Yeah, Sakurai's words mean a lot in my opinion. There are other characters where he said he wanted to include them, but couldn't for some reasons (moveset potential seems to be a big hurdle) but that shouldn't affect Geno. If they got the rights to the costume, I can't see it being much more work getting the character. He has a clear moveset. If Sakurai said he wanted to include him, there is no reason to believe they can't.
I like your optimism. I think I'd feel the same way but I'm erring on the side of caution. In my heart, I believe he's in, but we all know how that goes sometimes.

I'm with ya, in Brawl, I thought he had a shot. When he didn't appear, I didn't think much of his chances in 4. But now I feel he has a strong chance. A lot of people (even those who don't like Geno) are including him in their predictions, and a lot of people are saying he's very likely. Again, that's all speculation, but I don't think he was getting this kind of love in the Brawl days, at least not from what I remember. It was more the cult following supported him, and then most others thought he had no chance. I think the Smashboards community as a whole is coming around on him. But at the end of the day, the only person whose support matters is Sakurai, and he has shown he has it.

Aw most definitely. I remember I used to get in fights on GameFaqs Smash boards back in the Brawl days when I was 21. People just disrespecting Geno by saying garbage like "who" or "Ge...NO" I used to tear people apart on Gamefaqs, but I'm older now so I lightened up a bit and I let it go.

I’ve noticed a difference in my maturity level too since those days. I wouldn’t say I’d get into it with people, but I handle things much more diplomatically this time around. I try and look at things objectively with more logic than opinions. I’m 27 now working for a Fortune 500 company, so that humbled and matured me a bit. But I still feel like a kid inside when it comes to Smash speculation.

I'll still do whatever it takes to make Geno happen. But maybe not from one extreme to the next like I did back then. I remember refreshing my computer to get votes to see SMRPG emulated on virtual console,
and we did end up getting that on Labor Day 2008.

May I just say...very impressive, sir or madam. I respect the fact that you've held on to your fandom even with success and getting older--I'm 30 myself, and I hope never to lose my love of Smash, and games in general. I find my generation (our generation? I can never remember what ages are which, lol) is pretty good with keeping the geek culture with them lifelong. It warms my nerdy heart.
Geno fans in general seem to be a pretty seasoned, mature group. The kind of thing that comes from multiple disappointments and unyielding hope.
You might even say that we are waiting on a wish we know will be granted...

But yes I agree, a lot of us are a seasoned group. Hopefully with the VC and the SNES classic release which included SMRPG, there will be a new generation. Also, if he makes the cut in Smash, I’m sure that will dawn a new generation.
