I was watching the old trailers, and one thing I found interesting is that the only third party character that appears in an animated scene is Mega Man. Who appears in 2 with Smash 4 and 1 in Ultimate. None of the others have their own animated scene OR appear in other scenes

Capcom must be the easiest studio to work with.

Would Geno get one if he got in with that in mind?

There's no way in hell Geno wouldn't get an animated intro considering his Mii costume was the only one to ever get one.

Ah...I never noticed, but you're right! Honestly though, I think that may be more about timing than anything--every newcomer that wasn't DLC got an animation in Smash 4, and the only third parties that weren't DLC were Sonic, Mega Man and Pacman. Sonic was a vet, so he didn't get one, and as for appearing in others' trailers, I really don't think it was a matter of ease in working with them, considering Sega will permit practically ANYONE to use Sonic. If anything, it may just cost something every time they feature in one, and it isn't worth the price to feature them if they're not a newcomer. Then again, we haven't seen any trailer for Ultimate aside from Ridley's--Sonic could feature in one later.

And actually, now that I think about it, Pac did feature in an animation--the end of his reveal trailer (the part with G&W) was animated. It's also worth noting that both Pac and Mega are silent, so no additional voice acting would be needed for them in additional trailers--not so for many other characters, third party or otherwise. This may be another reason.

With all that said, there's practically no way Geno won't get an animated trailer--unless he's DLC. I could see Cloud being used in his, too, given their mutual developer connection.

I didn't count pac man because it wasn't the same quality as the regular trailers, just featuring the characters on a blank white background with text

Ryu has some animation in the beginning of his trailer, but I see what you're getting at. Ryu is also a Capcom rep, so that may explain it.

I do think we will get something this month. On what character, I do not think it will be anything to crazy just yet. I feel like they will be saving some of there more shocking reveals for when we get closer to the release.

Rool, Geno, or Isaac, but someone like Ashley or Captain Toad to go along with their upcoming releases would make sense. Both characters certainly have their fans, but I'd expect Sakurai to hold off on someone else with the fan vote so soon after Ridley... Unless he's really going for complete fan service, and then all bets are off the table.

My biggest fear with regard to Geno is that he'll remain a Mii costume, and Sakurai will like put Sora in the game and that'll effectively burn Geno's chances from ever being in Smash. Not super opposed to Sora mind you, but again, in relation to Geno I don't think we would expect three representatives from Square... Unless we got a Sora/Geno combo trailer. If THAT happened, all hell would break loose and the reaction would be amazing. Absolutely no chance of that happening.

From what I understand Disney owns the rights to Sora anyways. Sakurai wouldn't be able to use Sora without Disney's permission even if SquareEnix wanted Sora in devoid of Disney references. They simply don't own him. (At least if memory serves.)

But because of that, since Sora is technically a Disney character and not a Squeenix character I don't think his inclusion would damage Geno's chances. =)

Why couldn’t he have the Key Blade? First I’ve heard of anything of the sort.

I do think he would be a rough character to deal with from a rights perspective, but they could also potentially just base him around other things and ignore the more specific Disney references. He’s another popular choice for a lot of people in Smash, so it would still be a move for the fans (just not as deep of a cut as Geno would be).

I feel like Sora has even less of a chance to get in over Geno, but if there's a Sora reveal, we'd be done for. Having three Square reps would be near impossible. Then again, we did get both Mega Man and Ryu in Smash 4. I feel like there's some leeway there given the two of them are both very influential characters, that is compared to Sora and Geno.

Personally, I'm betting we get a character every month till release. It's just too perfect--we're probably getting about five more newcomers (at least, I think so,) and there are five months till release. Then there'll likely be one or two more hidden characters revealed after release in December, as with Duck Hunt and Bowser Jr. Nothing will get the hype going like a set pattern of reveals.

As for when Geno would be shown? I hope sooner rather than later, but I imagine he'd be November's big "last before release" character, as Shulk was. That, or he's a secret character.

Considering there is less than 6 months starting on Saturday left before the game releases, I'm pretty sure they will have at least one newcomer reveal per month since Nintendo Directs aren't frequent like they used to be and they happen like every 3 to 4 months nowadays. Frankly, they would probably save the rumored Simon Belmont for that and the rest would be revealed on the site.

Ah, I didn't ever see the Mickey Mouse part of the chain... Though that's such a minor detail, I think you could easily change it. Again, I don't think Sora is likely and I'm not trying to advocate for him. He would be an absolute logistical legal nightmare I'd imagine, and having Disney characters in the game would be weird as all hell...

That said, Sakurai has always made the impossible possible, and while Sora is probably an out there pick, he's also one that people have wanted to see in the games. Kingdom Hearts has as much history with Nintendo, if not more, than Metal Gear. Adding Sora would absolutely be a huge reveal, and a fan service move as well. I could see it happening as much as I doubt it, and honestly, I wouldn't be that upset beyond knowing what it likely meant for our boy in blue.

Also, I don't think Geno will be the final character revealed. He is a big fan choice, but I don't think he is a megaton right before the game drops kind of announcement.

I don't think Sora would take priority over Geno though. Sakurai chose Cloud first and foremost as FF is Square's main series and that it doesn't have the whole discussion with Disney thing on top of that. Plus, Sakurai has clearly shown more interest in Geno to begin with.

I'm prepared for that. As long as Sakurai includes a way for me to make Geno again, I'll be good. Geno being a costume AGAIN even after everything seems to be going well for him is a grim reality I must be prepared for. I know this, if Geno is not playable again this year, I'm retiring from speculating Geno being in Smash for good. I'm 31 years old, I've waited 12+ years and 22 since SMRPG for Geno to be in another game again. I feel like Geno has everything going for him this year, and I've basically screamed at Nintendo to hear my cry. I've downloaded RPG twice on VC and purchased Geno's sole dlc costume, just to show Nintendo I'm willing to pay money to see Geno again. If he's still not playable I will finally give up. 3 strikes and you're out. I can't wait for another console. We've waited long enough for our character's turn.

The other major problem I have with the leak isn't so much that Chibi Robo is one of the characters listed, it's just the fact they claim its either him or Dillon as if they're not confident in their information.
