Easy. I'd want a Mallow assist trophy. He could run around trying to beat people with the froggy staff, then after awhile he could get mad and summon some lightning to crash down. If he fails to kill anyone, then he starts to cry for a little bit, causing the screen to get misty with rain.

I have doubts they will announce a new 3D Mario game if it isn't Odyssey 2. If it isn't a sequel to Odyssey, Nintendo will most likely not reuse the engine. As such, they need to make an entirely new one from scratch. The wait between 3D World and Odyssey was about 4-5 years. I think Odyssey 2 makes too much sense. Think about it, Nintendo said how profitable DLC was and how they were gonna keep doing it (this was months before more Smash DLC was announced), they have DLC for most of their major games (aside from MK8D, and Super Mario Party) like BOTW, and that game is even getting a sequel.

The Mario team has done nothing since Odyssey. So what are they doing? What most likely happened was the same story that befell Galaxy 2: Nintendo was making DLC for the game, then it got too ambitious and Nintendo made the DLC into a sequel. I just don't think it makes much sense for Nintendo to make a brand new 3D Mario game when Odyssey has been THE most successful 3D title AND they already have the assets and engine.

Also, as an aside, I think that Sunshine remake rumor is bullocks, truly. While maybe Nintendo could throw me for a loop and go against something I said above (they are the kings of left field after all), this one I think is the most sketch. I would be all for it, but Miyamoto has mentioned before how he doesn't want to remake any of the 3D Mario games. And you could bring up 64 DS, but that game was made at a very particular time to sell the idea and power of a new system: the DS. Nintendo doesn't need that for the Switch. And, again, it would be weird for Nintendo to remake arguably the most divisive 3D Mario game, rather than follow in the footsteps of other recent Nintendo games and be a sequel to the most successful one.

Fair points but Nintendo has a reputation for doing things completely out of left field so we'll need to wait and see how this pans out.

Though I don't think they'd need to make a new engine entirely if we're getting a brand-new game. Maybe they'd have to change it a bunch to fit whatever gameplay it has (i.e. replace Capturing with some other gameplay mechanic) but I don't see them getting rid of Odyssey's pristine controls and game flow.

If you asked me a few years ago I’d have said it would be an action rpg, but with the success of the Bravely games and Octopath I think they’d stick with the turn based formula. I don’t know if it would be quite as weird as SMRPG was (the Mario universe is a lot more defined these days) but at the very least the translators would actually know the names of Mario series things this time around lol

Rumor dump because it's kind of awful right now and we're probably not getting a Direct for at least three weeks. Here are all the major lingering rumors that I've heard from my contacts, including the Mii costume guy and NoA ambassador, since probably like July. Definitely food for thought for a highly probable January Direct and beyond.

Major lingering rumors:

-No less than 7 Nintendo Remakes/Remasters for 2020. None are supposedly Zelda, Kirby, DK, or Star Fox. One has been made public by a couple of people, Sunshine HD, but confidence in it being real is super low.

Add in: another clarification: none have been formally announced yet so Xenoblade DE is not part of this.

-Tales announcements for Switch but nobody knows what or when. Supposedly Nintendo itself has been teasing it themselves to it's employees since like September.

-New retro Ninja Gaiden for Switch but, again, no one knows when. Basically a "Ninja Gaiden 4" with NES graphics and some people are now wondering if this rumor has anything to do with the Ryu in Smash rumors.

-New 3D Mario for E3 that's not Odyssey 2 or Galaxy 3. Supposedly totally new and not tied to past games but that's about it. It's a bird, it's a plane, it's super vague.

-Soul Calibur for Switch but, again, who ****in' knows? Had the Nightmare rumors clipped to this which is a big reason I entertained the idea. Confidence isn't super high on this one either.

-Nintendo is supposedly going to try its damnest to make BoTW 2 2020 (but, let's face it, it's not looking good and it's Zelda FFS) No doubt will have a lot to show at E3 regardless.

-Major complications with Prime 4 to the point it may miss E3... Again...

-Fighters 5 and 6 are rumored to be coming together, as in announced together. I give this one the most credit because like 5 people have passed this rumor onto me including the Mii costume guy. Lot of people disagree on who 5 and 6 could be but I will say that a lot of the same names keep coming up. As I've said, I don't think 5 or 6 are Geno but I'd love to be proven wrong.

Add in: Because there's been some confusion, I mean announced together as in the same presentation, not the same trailer. Rumors for 6 are particularly interesting because they suggest that they could either be a bonus character ala Plant or simply the character to kick off "Season 2" but it seems like nobody agrees on which it will be.

Welp, back to lurking...

Back to watching PapaGenos myself eventually I’ll be watching another channel but really enjoy his content and he’s doing awesome. Anyway not important but thanks for the info this is all huge. Don’t know what this new Super Mario game is but I will be keeping an eye on it.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild sequel deserves time. So if it’s going to be released in 2021, so be it. That game was amazing... The LegendZelda: Breath of the Wild that is And will definitely will pay off in the end with it time being given to it. The Tsles stuff sounds interesting. For sure can’t wait too see what that is.

Like most people, you only need one event to break a pattern. It's unreasonable to think that big characters will always be announced at E3. I went on with the idea that they wouldn't show off Dragon Quest character in a western event like E3 seeing how it really appeals to Japanese fans, and I was extremely wrong when it comes to that seeing how Dragon Quest took up the first 5 minutes of their E3 Direct. There is no expectation for this when we seen that literally any kind of character can be shown off at E3 regardless of their status of their fan demand.

If you press a button and 9 times out of 10 you get a fruit, I believe it's reasonable to assume that you'll most likely get a fruit when you press the button. According to you, because there's a single chance out of 10 pushes that you won't get a fruit when you press the button, it's unreasonable to think that a fruit will appear when you press the button.

When have I ever said that Sakurai was a terrible developer? When have I ever said anything like that? I don't agree with everything he does, there are flaws, but never in my god damn mind will I have say or type that Sakurai is a terrible developer. In fact, I will erase my account if you can find an instance where I said that Sakurai is a terrible developer.
My god, you can't bloody criticize Sakurai on this board without people think you hater him. People need help.

Well, when you regularly assert that Sakurai outright hates/doesn't care about Geno/the characters we voted for...

Spoiler: Spoiler'd for size.

I never said Sakurai hated us, I say that Sakurai probably hated that Fighter Ballot seeing how we only got Ridley, Simon, K Rool, and Banjo while majority of the other fan requested characters from that ballot got turned into Assist Trophies & Mii Costumes. Considering that only 25% of newcomers where chosen based on fan request is kind of telling.

Also it is kind of getting annoying when most of the fan requested characters have been relegated to Assist Trophies, Mii Costumes, and Spirits while characters that people have been really quite about are getting in. I've been saying for a long time that Sakurai must've hated that Ballot if he's not willing to put in that many requested characters in Ultimate anymore.

I know Sakurai keeps saying he likes Geno, but we also see that Geno isn't going to be the Fifth DLC Fighter. I believe that Sakurai really cares about Geno when he actually makes Geno playable, because it's so much easier to say "I hear you want him and I want him too," then following through with it.

If the Ryu Hayabusa truly the last Fighter then it does feel like Sakurai really didn't like that Fighter Ballot seeing how we only got 4 characters out of the 13 newcomers and everyone else was turn into Assist Trophies, Mii Costumes and Spirits. Really shouldn't have included that Piranha Plant and try to even out the request characters. Really hating Plant more seeing how Sakurai already got his characters he was passionate about with Joker & KoF, seems like the only passion behind Piranha Plant was to tell fans of certain characters that people really wanted were all crap.

Oh and there was the Dragon Quest content. Sakurai got a lot of stuff that he wanted, HE DID NOT NEED PIRANHA PLANT!

Well it would be bad PR if Sakurai said he never really wanted to include Geno but wanted to give something minimal to the fans because of the request. Action speaks louder than words, so if Geno ain't Fighter #4 or #5 then I think Sakurai doesn't really care.

I honestly don't know where this idea of Geno as a bonus character came from, but glad that idea is getting thrown out. There was nothing that points at a bonus character even happening and that starling pictures seems to not be about Smash Bros. I would love for Geno to get in, but with the direction things are going it seems like it's not going to happen and most likely Sakurai doesn't care. Remember, he put Piranha Plant in despite saying there limited about of space for new characters.

There is no proof that Sakurai will do one more bonus fighter just to make Geno happen. If Sakurai really wanted Geno then he would've happened already or be part of the Fighters Pass. Just because Sakurai said he wanted the character doesn't mean anything because there's no way he would say that he doesn't want any particular character because that would be terrible PR. He let other popular characters that people having been wanting for many years to be excluded, chances are it will happen again.

There's a Geno Spirit in Smash Bros, that should tell you everything you need to know. The character isn't deconfirm because they're a spirit, they're a spirit because there was no plan for them at all in the game. Geno isn't going to be DLC Fighter #4 or #5 and the idea of a bonus fighter coming in is a little ludicrous. Everyone, just give up. If you're upset then write to Sakurai & Nintendo. Make your voices heard. Don't expect it to work out.

That the key thing, if Sakurai wants him. But after all if this I firmly believe that Sakurai doesn't want Geno at all. I know people are going to bring up quotes saying he does and he likes Geno, but name me a time where Sakurai say he doesn't like a character. He has to be shown as none bias, so he's never going to say something like "I'm never putting in a Kirby character from a game I never directed." So words are pointless, his actions are what matter. Sakurai gave out that Mii Costume for Smash 4 as a way to acknowledge the Geno fans, but in Ultimate he got the rights to use Geno and instead of making him a Fighter he turn him into a Spirit instead. Didn't even consider it, Piranha Plant was decided over Geno. So if he had the rights the only person stopping him would've been Sakurai himself. Now with The Hero in the game shows that Sakurai doesn't want Geno in the game. In his mind Sakurai can call this game Super Smash Bros Ultimate without Geno's inclusion. This might sound negative, but Sakurai had opportunity to make Geno playable in the base game but chose not to.

And, y'know, outright say stuff like this...

Well I will say that November Direct while being poor PR did have some negative effect. I am only speaking from my personal view about this, but when I saw that November Direct it actually killed my interest for any future news related to Smash Bros Ultimate. I've been a fan of the series from the very beginning and I never really walk away disappointed from any news when it comes to Smash Bros, but that November Direct somehow zapped away all my excitement. I still got the game regardless but I don't look forward to anything now and I kind of resent Sakurai in a way. To see so many fan favorite gets massacred with no way to be redeemed through DLC and seeing how Piranha Plant became playable, I really hated Sakurai for that. Sure, everyone got the game so it doesn't really matter, but as a person who says he doesn't really want to disappoints people should really learn from these experiences. Sakurai says that he doesn't really get involve with the fan base or how some things are received, he basically stays in his box and refuse to look out of it, so because of that we keep getting Mii Costume and Assist Trophies of our favorite characters because Sakurai thought people would love it since they're in the game. That's really not the case, Sakurai needs to know what the fans like so he can stop waste his and his teams time of developing content that's only going to disappoint.

I dunno, it kind of makes people think you MAY have something more personal against the guy. Just maybe.

My two cents: if this is true, including the bit about the same presentation... methinks we're very likely getting all this in a Smash-focused Direct, possibly one in December.

All we really know for sure about post-Pass DLC right now is... well, just the fact that we're getting it at all. There's still a lot of unanswered questions, like: Will post-Pass characters be sold individually, or in a Fighters Pass again? If they're coming in a Fighters Pass again, will it be 5 characters like the last one, or possibly 4 or 6? Will we just be getting the characters themselves and nothing more, or will they come with other content again? If they do come with other content, will it be stages, music, and spirits again, or will they come with something else like an Echo Fighter or an Assist Trophy? Not to mention, while this is only likely if you assume they're shadow-dropping Fighter 5 the same day they're announced, there's also the details of Version 7.0 and what could come with Fighter 5 in terms of adjustments.

At the very least, I think that's enough for a shorter 12-minute mini-Direct. Of course, there's always the chance of them just tacking on all that information at the end of a general Direct (the 2018 E3 Direct was essentially 18 minutes of other games plus 25 minutes of nuthin' but Smash, and then there's the Direct back in this September that had roughly 8 minutes of Animal Crossing: New Horizons near the end), but I think the chances of a Smash-focused Direct are more likely than not.

Jeezums, you know we don't have to like every single decision a creators makes. It's like Miyamoto, he's a great guy but a lot of people do hold a grudge against him for Paper Mario Sticker Star. People hated Miyamoto for what he did to the Paper Mario series, but that's just the extent of their hatred and nothing. I'm sure all the Paper Mario fans still love Miyamoto, just not when it comes to actual involvement with the Paper Mario series. Just because we hated what a creator decided doesn't mean hate them all together. There are decisions that can just frustrate a person, but it doesn't mean we love them any less.

Sakurai is a great developer with quite a few bad ideas, like Smash 4 Custom Move and it's stupid way of trying to unlock them. Don't have to agree with everything they do.
