Geno (♥♪!?): Return of the Starsend Savior

I have 0 experience with Half-Life, but I know they're critically acclaimed games. As I've said before, I'm pretty much down for any character since the roster is already so big. Two things though:

1.) Didn't Fatmanonice say Fighter #5 will probably be a final "thank you" chatacter like most of the pass has been? Fatmanonice said he had this theory in his head for a bit, and it was all but confirmed. To me, I don't really see how Valve would fit that bill. Not poo-pooing on Gordan Freeman, but I just don't know if him getting in fits with the current buzz (also, no Half-Life games on Switch is another thing too, but I suppose that isn't huge). It seems like a Bandai Namco character is the most likely at the moment (such an unexpected Dark Souls rep which I've talked about before).

2.) As a huge aside... if Valve got a character, would anyone else want Chell the most? Nothing against Gordan Freeman, but think about how amazing her moveset would be with the portal gun! Plus, the Portal games seemed to be praised to heaven (Star Road) and back across the board. I know Half-Life is popular too, but it seems to me that Portal is a bit more beloved and seen as a "classic." Just my opinion. If Gordan Freeman gets in, it'll be a little odd, but I certainly won't complain. Even though I've never played the Portal games (I'd love them on Switch), I'd just rather have Chell.

Bamco is a big front-runner for another character, right?

Guess who is owned by Bamco and is very much forgotten?

Now I don't really think he has a huge chance, just thought it would be an interesting talking point. I really feel like we could easily get a Mii Costume of him though with another Bamco rep like Lloyd. Like, two Tales Of costumes (maybe Yuri and Colette?) and a Klonoa costume, then Heihachi and Gil costumes return. Really does seem easily possible.

Keep in mind that’s his personal hypothesis. There’s nothing suggesting that character #5 has to be a “thank-you pick” in any capacity.

Agreed. What can I say, the Mario Galaxies represent the pinnacle of 3D Mario to me. The physics, level design and musical score have yet to be matched in my opinion. The literal "god of platforming" by almost any metric you can think of, bar only multiplayer. 3D World spanks the crap out of all other Mario games in that regard. Though I will give Odyssey credit for the 2.5D-retro wall sections. That was a nicely fresh touch.

Mmm, I smell somee good opinions. Hey, so since you seem like a Galaxy aficionado and brought up Odyssey let me ask you a question... did Bowser's Kingdom almost scream a Galaxy level to you? You're brought into this gorgeous environment in the sky and the level goes in a straight line with small deviations you can take off the path. There were main chunks of land (like planets in a Galaxy) and you literally flew to them (the electric wires) exactly like Launch Stars. And then the entire thing culminated in an epic Super Mario Galaxy style boss battle. I absolutely adore Bowser's Kingdom in Odyssey. I don't know how I can articulate how much this felt like a level right out of Galaxy to me when I look back on it. Super Mario Odyssey was a very solid game in my eyes (I'd give it a 7.5/10) but Bowser's Kingdom was bar none my favorite Kingdom. Very rarely do games give me the "Galaxy feeling" (as I call it). Odyssey's Moon Kingdom didn't even do it (however I did LOVE the cavern area, as that gave me some Bowser's Galaxy Reactor vibes). And I am pretty picky it seems because while everyone was gushing over the Galaxy-esque level right after the main story of 3D World, I wasn't getting any Galaxy feeling (the level were definitely still good don't get me wrong, but they weren't the same). You can't just put Mario in space and say it is Galaxy (like people were saying with the Moon Kingdom). Everything has to come together to truly make it.feel like those two immaculate games. Anyhow, I'll stop droning on. I just have never said that to anyone before.

Ohhh okay! As I said, I don't have a lot of experience with Half-Life, so apologies that I don't know the full scope of Half-Life's impact and such. But what you said about it defining the FPS genre, I'm just confused that I've never heard about Gordan Freeman when a FPS is discussed (and what you said about Half-Life usually goes to DOOM). But yeah, just because I haven't heard the impact of Half-Life doesn't mean there isn't any (something the Smash community doesn't understand the concept of).

Right right, of course. Literally anything could happen, and I'm pretty much expecting that at this point. The only reason I brought up what Fatmanonice said was because, as I mentioned, he said that his theory was corroborated and proven somewhat by recent things he learned. I just wanted people to remember that tidbit was all!

Also, as an aside, I quite like your profile pick. I've thought that for a bit but haven't had the best opportunity. Always good to see a fellow Bowser Jr. fan!

You saying this is making me want to learn about Half-Life some more! Hey Geno thread, recently when Danganronpa was talked about in this thread, some quite lovely fans of the series educated me about the franchise and helped me get a bit of a better understanding of it.

Can the Half-Life fans of this thread do the same for me? I always like to educate myself on new franchises and learn why they're so impactful and/or beloved. Why is Half-Life so impactful? What's so special about it? And so on and so forth.

Not... really? I’ve seen this around a couple times, but I don’t believe it’s ever been sourced to anyone that actually worked on the game. Halo itself had a very weird development, it didn’t even start as a shooter to begin with.

Thanks! I wish I could say I was talented enough to create it, but I didn’t. It’s just a slightly-edited version of some Gurren Lagann-inspired art I found of Bowser Jr. from which I removed the background to make it work as a PFP. Half-Life is also just a really cool series with awesome gameplay, especially with the Gravity Gun. Also, the series is known for not having cutscenes to keep it more immersive and interesting. Honestly you should pick up.both games on Steam as soon as possible. they are some of my favorite games ever, and I really want other people to play them.

I have no idea how you've come to this conclusion at all. Halo was basically a re-imagining of Bungie's earlier Marathon FPS games which were marketed as Mac-exclusive "Doom-killers." Halo started production and has its setting already decided before Half-Life was shown to the world.

If anything, Halo was based on the Alien movies. But so was Doom. Sort of.

I’d like any of the big three valve series to get in, but I don’t see how chell would function as a fighter. I’d love to hear a moveset of you have one in mind

i mentioned him awhile back, and I still feel like he could be the namco rep since he'd be completely out of left field. But Many are still convinced it's between Lloyd, KOS-MOS, Heihachi or someone else more recognizable.
