The only ones would be Mach Rider and Chorus Kids. The others are Assist Trophies or they are already in (Ken and Banjo). They could get the Spirit upgrade like Geno...wait.

Are we about to get those three in the next pass? Maybe not likely, but that would honestly be neat.
Man, I hope Mach Rider would be given a second chance. I only really found out about her through the Grinch leak and I have been a supporter ever since. Who knows, perhaps the leak reminded Sakurai that he considered Mach Rider for Melee and made him look into the character again.

The only likely I'd say is Doomguy based on actual news articles and speculation, the rest I'd say 50/50, Geno too. Hell I still think Geno only has a 10% chance until we hear from more people.

No offense, I haven't heard a thing about rayman and don't feel he has any chance at all. Could be wrong, I just haven't heard anything about him period. Obviously same thing with masterchief and travis, but at the very least they have no representation in smash and can come out of left field.

I really hope we get any of them on that list because overall a LOT of people would be happy with literally any of them.
I literally wrote that I think the Mii costume leak with Mallow and Cacodemon is real and that the final tier were random people I'd be okay with

If AT were on the table for round 2 I would be willing to go all in on that if a grincher opened it, sadly every single one of them at least has a spirit so by fatman's criteria they can't all be on the list. I think it's still a possibility but we won't know until fatman comes back to share.

Aight fellas. I have a scenario for you. You can only pick one path.

Geno gets in Smash Ultimate

OR

Smash Bros becomes a cinematic universe like marvel, and Geno is a major character in it.

You can only pick one, the movies come out and geno is nowhere but he's in the game, or the movies come out with him playing a big role but he never joins the Smash roster.

Which do you choose?
I'll take the Cinematic Universe if it means majority of the movies are good. Have the team avenge the falls that were turn into Assist Trophies.

Well if NoJ actually saw the grinch stuff and decided to incorporate it into future dlc plans that would be wild. Personally if that was actually the reason geno is getting in then I would be kinda bummed tbh, that means that geno in season 2 yet again wasn't because sakurai wanted to add him but I guess it doesn't really matter :ohwell:.
All I can hope for is that if comes true then maybe the other grinchers, namely a certain golden boy might be in their cross-hairs for future dlc. Time will tell.

Another interesting thing is that if this is true then Chorus kids might actually have a chance since that fits the reused material from smash 4 thing. Also both chorus kids and mach rider would fit into that "end of the world" list entry that's been talked about for a while since either but especially the latter would make it very obvious why they chose it in particular.

Hope he gets to us soon, I'm not in the PG discord but if someone here is drop in some screenshots will ya?
Yeah honestly if this is true while I would love for Geno to get in I wouldn't/couldn't help but feel a little bad for Isaac. He was just as exciting as Banjo and Geno within that leak and he was a big driving force for the leak with the "Golden Sun-like" healing sprout and the green pixel shenanigans.

It would be a little bit sad but at least we would end up getting Geno and Banjo and I guess there'll always be those one or two requests that never come to pass. It's sad but not everyone can win. Having both Banjo-Kazooie and Geno would be cool though if what FMOI said is true.

It might not be on the table right now but if dlc extends again it could certainly happen. depending on how serious fatman tells us they took the grinch roster he might even be the only one to have a chance outside a promotion focused pass in the future.

Story time later. Want to talk about stuff that happened last year that Sabi's NoA source shared with me about how Nintendo handled the Grinch Leak. At first it was kind of a cheap laugh but now that Banjo's in and Geno's MIA, I've come to realize that the Grinch Leak was a weird blessing in disguise.

So the people of this thread have been discussing Bandai Namco and Capcom characters that could make it in, so let me pose a question for the people of this thread:

For Bandai Namco, would you rather have Lloyd or Heihachi? (Or, to be more general in my question, a Tales of character vs. a Tekken character, since I know there was debate in this thread who would represent Tales of.)

For Capcom, would you rather have a Resident Evil character or Dante?

Please explain the why you picked the character you chose.

P.S.: Honorable mentions go out to a Dark Souls character and Pheonix Wright, but I feel as if those characters will only get in if some certain set of circumstances occur with them (like for Dark Souls, I see a rep from that game being good for Fighter #5, but if they aren't, I can't see them over Lloyd and/or rq for post-pass DLC).

Edit: This doesn't necessarily have to be Fighter #5 specific, I'm more so talking in general.
I'm just going to make this simpler by ranking all the characters I can think of in order of who I want most (1 being the one I want most) and giving individual values from 1-10 (10 being highest) for each character.
For Namco:
1. Yoshimitsu: so I suck at Soul Calibur but still played 2 and 3 a lot and a little bit of 4. I mainly enjoyed the character creation, but when I did play as one of the actual characters in the game, Yoshimitsu was one of the most common choices if not the most common choice for me. I just really like Yoshimitsu. If he made it to smash I would hope that his appearance from Tekken and Soul Calibur would be blended to have the flag from Soul Calibur and technology aspect from Tekken and and have cool alts. I would worry about another swordfighter, but Yoshimitsu has quite a few ways to distinguish himself imo.
Personal Connection: 9
Appearance: 10
Unique Smash Potential/Moveset Potential: 5
Quirkiness/fun: 7
Likelihood: 1 (not a protagonist/antagonist but is in SC and Tekken)

2. Siegfried/Nightmare: lots of similar points that Yoshimitsu had, but didn't play them as much as Yoshimitsu.
Personal Connection: 6
Appearance: 9
Unique Smash Potential/Moveset Potential: 7
Quirkiness/fun: 4
Likelihood: 5?

3. Lloyd: never played Tales of games, but I can dig dual sword wielder.
Personal Connections: 1
Appearance: 4 (kinda cool looking but overall boring human)
Unique Smash Potential/Moveset Potential: 5?
Quirkiness/fun: 4
Likelihood: 9

4. Agumon: I hate Digimon. The only game I played was on PS1 and it was awful. I do like the creature design tho and agumon is recognizable and pretty cool. Plus Digimon vs Pokemon would be great.
Personal Connections: 3
Appearance: 7
Unique Smash Potential/Moveset Potential: 7
Quirkiness/fun: 6
Likeliness: 6?

5. Hiehachi: I hate fighting games, but I do like Hiehachi. He's a cool old bad dude.
Personal Connections: 2
Appearance: 7
Unique Smash Potential/Moveset Potential: 3
Quirkiness/fun: 1
Likeliness: 8

6. Dark Souls character: never played dark souls and hate those kind of games. Despite general lack of interest, I would tolerate a rep in Smash, but they definitely would not be even close to one of my most wanteds.
Personal Connections: 1
Appearance: 6
Unique Smash Potential/Moveset Potential: 3?
Quirkiness/fun: 1
Likeliness: 7 or 8

For Capcom:
1. Wesker: Wesker is one of my most wanteds in general easily top 10 if not top 5. He is more interesting moveset-wise than other RE reps imo with his super human strength and speed. I love RE and would love a rep in Smash and think Wesker is the perfect option except that he is an antagonist and therefore probably would not get the position over Leon/Jill/Chris.
Personal Connections: 10
Appearance: 8
Unique Smash Potential/Moveset potential: 7
Quirkiness/fun: 4
Likeliness: 1

2. Amaterasu: never played Okami, but I love the art style and it sounds like amaterasu has insane and fun Moveset potential.
Personal Connections: 2
Appearance: 10
Unique Smash Potential/Moveset potential: 10
Quirkiness/fun: 7
Likelihood: 5

3. Phoenix Wright: another human male you say? And this one doesn't even have a gun? Sounds lame. OBJECTION! Never played AA, but Phoenix is exactly the kind of rep I want in smash and I know Sakurai would make him insanely fun and hilarious.
Personal Connections: 1
Appearance: 3
Unique Smash Potential/Moveset Potential: 8
Quirkiness/fun: 10
Likelihood: 6

4. Jill/Chris/Leon: same stuff as Wesker pretty much just less interesting.
Personal Connections: 10
Appearance: 3
Unique Smash Potential/Moveset Potential: 4
Quirkiness/fun: 3
Likelihood: 6

5. Sir Arthur: never played ghosts and goblins, but sir Arthur would definitely be a fun addition.
Personal Connections: 1
Appearance: 8
Unique Smash Potential/Moveset Potential: 8
Quirkiness/fun: 8
Likelihood: 4

6. Dante: no interest in dmc. Sounds like he could have some Moveset variety and seems really popular.
Personal Connections: 1
Appearance: 6
Unique Smash Potential/Moveset Potential: 7?
Quirkiness/fun: 5
Likelihood: 7

7. Monster Hunter: don't care about monster Hunter and I don't see much value of them in smash. I would take a monster but don't think we would get that as a rep.
Personal Connections: 1
Appearance: 4
Unique Smash Potential/moveset potential: 3
Quirkiness/fun: 3
Likelihood: 5

They took it very seriously but not in the way you'd expect. Still, it's a fun story but I'm currently running errands with my wife so it may be a little while before I can sit my non-existent ass down and type it out.

For me, Mach Rider is a good example of a "I never knew I wanted this so badly" character.

My most wanted "retro character" pick right now is the Excitebiker, but Mach Rider would be just as good. It'd be fun to imagine the two as Echo Fighters of each other (a la Simon and Richter), even if Excitebiker doesn't use firearms.

I mean none of us can really speak for Geno (yet) but Banjo was apparently decided on sometime in April 2018, far before the Grinch happened, so it's not even possible for it to have had a hand in his appearance.

What other way could they have taken it?

>the grinch might've ACTUALLY saved both Banjo and Geno from not getting in period.

What a timeline. If this is real, then Im at a loss for words.

You know if that is actually how this all pans out that's going to be hilarious because the people over at fort Isaac have been speculating on golden sun stuff hitting the switch pretty hard and watching Camelot's every move like a hawk. Idk if it will amount to something but the fact that they've been so quiet with no new announcements for so long after tennis aces is quite strange, that trademark from last fall is still in play.....

True but it definitely solidified that they had made the right decision in choosing Banjo over Steve or Master Chief. Nintendo was actually kind of worried that Banjo for Smash was a meme/fad and that it was going to possibly be dead on arrival.

Real shame waluigi was an E3 reveal, if he was still in play there was a good chance he would have been a grincher too and he might have gotten to enjoy this as well.

Eh tbh.... he's still probably the most likely assist to be upgraded. Not a huge loss.

Literally since last year. This was one of the first stories that he told the Discord.

So, it's October and the Grinch Leak has come out. Nintendo's immediately annoyed and anxious. Fans are already bugging the hell out of them to see if it's true. Emails. Phone calls. Nintendo knows the Grinch Leak is getting fans' expectations sky high for the base roster and they know they can't deliver. Basically they tell their ambassadors and close associates like GameXplain to not cover it. Nintendo is trying to go into damage control as quietly as possible. The situation is too big to control so they decide to just ride things out.

The November Direct happens and, yep, fans are pissed. Even more emails and phone calls from angry fans. Nintendo unironically thought fans were okay with ATs and Mii costumes as consolation prizes and a big reason why they saved characters like Isaac for the last Direct. Of course, they were hilariously wrong and Nintendo was dead pan floored by this. Supposedly Nintendo dealt with this for weeks afterwards, pretty much until the VGAs. They knew that it was going to be bad but they had no idea.

Interesting... was this just NoA? Do you not really hear about NoJ? Also, did you hear how Sakurai and his team reacted?

Also, does this somewhat set up context to the story you'll be telling us later tonight?

Is it possible that Sakurai, the Smash team, and Nintendo could bring in the characters of the Grinch hoax into DLC fighters?

The contact is an NoA ambassador so he tells us about the going ons of NoA and rumors floating around there. No clue how NoJ responded but NoA probably had a lot to report to HQ on the matter.

Interesting stuff, but we already knew this part of the story as it's been told in tiny pieces over the past year. Looking forward to the rest though this is getting good.

This does make me wonder though how exactly did the fans across the pond take this? I imagine NoJ didn't get as much flak as we tend to give but it would be interesting to know

"We know that the main appeal of Smash Bros is getting to play as your favorite character in a fighting game, but I'm sure they're going to love their favorite being NPCs and never getting the opportunity to playable."
Guess I shouldn't be too surprised since they thought that reusing Paper Mario Sticker Star combat system was a good idea. Hopefully they learn their lesson with Assist Trophies & Mii Costumes... yeah that's not going to happen.

I feel like the fallout of the Grinch was a deciding factor in considering additional DLC, especially with the extra character slots appearing in the code as early as I believe January of this year. Of course, the piles of money its made was a bigger deal but Season 2 supposedly wasn't officially decided until June and the whole Fighter Pass was the only thing available to buy in January.

So THAT'S why Gameexplain was so dismissive and half-assed their analysis for the hoax. Which is ironic as their delay in their analysis and the downright flimsy 'reasons' to why it was fake (which even Team Fake called them out on) only fueled the hoax and made more people think it was real.

Wow, did they all just botched the hell out of this.

Curious. DLC 2.0 was decided around June. Was that also the time Piranha Plant was moved to the new "Individual DLC" section?

So if things shake out how they seem they are then it looks like our 20 odd years of support and efforts the fanbase has made were completely supplanted by a troll post from the goddamn rosalina guy. Don't get me wrong that's a monkey's paw worth taking easy but it doesn't feel good thats for sure.
