Sounds like a reasonable idea. Only problem is that The Game Awards event is on the 12th December for this year. Here's how I think it'll play out:
- Terry presentation coming early November.
- Begins with a proper Terry trailer like they did with Joker.
- Sakurai sitting like a snack. Details who Terry is and where he comes from, basic background stuff.
- Goes through Terry's moveset. Like Ryu and Ken, he will always face his opponents in 1v1 fights, and has command imputs for his moves.
- This is followed by a quick stage showcase, then a demonstration of Terry fighting. If I were a betting man, I'd wager that it'd be a 3v3 Squad Strike, referencing KoF's 3v3 tag-team mode. Done on Terry's KoF arena stage, and all of the fighters on Sakurai's side would be Terry.
- Goes a bit more in-depth on the stage, mostly focusing on the background details and cameo characters.
- Music showcase, lots of good tracks, approximately 8.
- Version 6.0.0 update is detailed, which comes with at least one new thing.
- The next wave of Mii Fighter costumes is showcased. There will be 5 costumes in total, and all of them will be based on fighting game characters. These costumes are:
Mai Shirunai (Mii Brawler)
Geese Howard (Mii Brawler)
Chun-Li (Mii Brawler)
Jacky & Akira, returning from Smash 4.
Heihachi, also returning from Smash 4.
- The newest wave of amiibos is showcased.
- At the end, Sakurai announces that there will be a one year anniversary Smash Direct on the 7th of December.
- There is no reveal at the VGAs, but Sakurai (or someone else from Nintendo) will be there to remind everyone to watch the Smash Direct on the 7th.
- The Direct will mostly be focused on discussing the lead-up to Smash Ultimate's release, with different staff members chiming in to talk about different stuff, ranging from characters to stages, to even the fan's reactions to all this. At the end, there will be a trailer for the 5th and final DLC fighter for the Fighter's Pass, which comes out in February.
It's why I'm beginning to suspect Professor Layton might be fighter #5. He's a character that isn't speculated on much, and to be honest, I'm not sure Lloyd from Tales of Symphonia will happen given that we already got the DQ heroes and I fear he might be considered redundant by the design team.I expect #5 to be a big reveal and someone who not too many people have expected. Not sure if the character will be as big of a surprise as Joker, as it'll be very difficult to match the surprise factor of his reveal.
Now that I think about it, there's a pretty good chance it might be a second trailer for Terry. In his reveal trailer there wasn't any gameplay and it ended with "Now in Development" (we did get a small sample of gameplay of him near the end of Banjo's presentation). So I think the recent activity on the Smash Bros. channel is Terry's official gameplay trailer that'll be shown off at the beginning of the presentation video (which will be uploaded on Nintendo's channel of course).
Do you ever get sad at a good ending of a story you love, for no other reason than it's over and you have to go on now knowing you reached the end of that story you loved?you know i saw a topic earlier today that actually made me wonder what will happen here when/if geno is revealed....
They mentioned about how all the character discussion boards are more or less dead, and someone pointed out that most folks just go on twitter, discord, or some other place like reddit to discuss their characters more, and it made me wonder....how many here are actually gonna stay on the geno board? Will anyone discuss how to handle certain matchups? or the social board? or videos of Geno highlights?
Or will it all just be regulated to discord and the actual board for the character show virtually no activity.
Cuz one thing is for sure, that post i saw from earlier today did seem eerily true, at least for many of the characters I use. Ganondorf boards rarely have any activity compared to what it was during brawl and 4's days, and the sad part is he's waaaay better this time than in the previous games, yet there's virtually no discussion on the boards for him. Same with the Link boards last I checked em, and the Y.Link ones.
It'd kinda suck if everyone here who have been so focused on getting Geno in, soon as he's in just kinda abandons the character board created just for him and sticks only to Discord, or some notable users just vanish altogether..... Not only that, but as far as having Geno's metagame evolve, it'd be probably better if all tactics, tricks, setups, matchups, etc., were kept up to date and discussed here, since that's another thing I've noticed. The boards that are dead for characters don't exactly keep info as up to date as it should be.
The haters who's current focus is on Geno will have to move on. "Geno is pretty cool actually .... You know, I really hate Crash."Do you ever get sad at a good ending of a story you love, for no other reason than it's over and you have to go on now knowing you reached the end of that story you loved?
I struggle with that myself, but if Geno gets in and this thread ultimately dies in favor of a Discord server, here is how I would look at it.
This thread, if it dies, it becomes the flag impaled into the ground on a hill that marks they day that that the Genobros won the war and Geno was included in Smash, for ever a symbol of our fight and struggle and that we succeeded.
The Discord server would be the tavern we all attend in celebration of our victory and to keep in touch with one another as we sing merry songs of Geno's inclusion and before we all leave we do one last toast...
"To Geno and his wonderous blue Cape! To Sakurai and his many blessings! To SMRPG and its legacy! And to the repair of the Star Road so that those who are still wishing can be granted! Hold Y For Power!"
Anniversary directs are really challenging because to my recollection they have never had a direct on Friday (November 1) or Saturday (December 7). I personally don't see them happening. Here's how I think it'll play out:

You haven't seen Twitter's or Youtube's Steve stuff. The only character I've ever thought was 1000% pure funposting was Steve.
Oh, well in that case, there's no mention of Smash at the VGAs, aside from picking up an award for best.Sounds like a reasonable idea. Only problem is that The Game Awards event is on the 12th December for this year.

I totally know how you feel, dude. It was so much fun seeing all the activity in the Wolf and Greninja boards for the first few months after Ultimate was released, but those two are pretty much dead nowadays and it's kinda sad to see. If it's any consolation, I am absolutely planning on making contributions to Geno's BnB combos thread and competitive discussion if/when he gets in. Speculation is fun and all, but I find discussing gameplay tactics and such even more interesting.you know i saw a topic earlier today that actually made me wonder what will happen here when/if geno is revealed....

If we achieve victory we will sing The Merry Mary Bell Rings with pride as we watch our Genobros flag move over the mountain of successDo you ever get sad at a good ending of a story you love, for no other reason than it's over and you have to go on now knowing you reached the end of that story you loved?

Ok, with all this talk of a "Genobros" flag, I gotta see what it looks like. Hey, any of you artsy peeps here up to the challenge? What do you think our Genobros flag should look like?If we achieve victory we will sing The Merry Mary Bell Rings with pride as we watch our Genobros flag move over the mountain of success
I don't see people moving onto to dislike any other character. Who is really left with that kind of legacy for Smash speculation in the event of Geno getting in? If we get Geno, they will have nothing left. All four of their favorite characters to meme against will be in. They would have lost. The haters who's current focus is on Geno will have to move on. Mr. Isaac Golden Sun himself otherwise nobody really.I don't see people moving onto to dislike any other character. You're assuming people won't find something else to hate? There is always room for hate for the internet ...I don't see people moving onto to dislike any other character. Well, YEAH! I mean, c'mon now. We've still got another Star Wars movie due at the end of the year! Waka waka! (Yes, that's a Fozzie Bear reference for you ancient people among us. lol)You're assuming people won't find something else to hate? There is always room for hate for the internet ...
There are plenty characters. Some you don't have focus on, and some you seem to hate for some wired odd reason that I won't name.I don't see people moving onto to dislike any other character. Which is amusing with how night and day the two games are received. As far as Terry's release date is concerned, I'm willing to bet no later than the 7th of next week because Nintendo doesn't want competition with Pokemon Sword and Shield.
I have to agree. Mario Kart seems like one of if not the best platforms to start from in terms of creating another crossover universe since it has its foot in the door and a lot of potential for more. But I think they really need to shake things up in order to do so. Like pull the good stuff from Mario kart tour (consistent updates, ranked cups, releasing new karts, tracks and character periodically, etc) and put it on a console do so in a way that is still lucrative for them but not a blatant annoying cash grab for players just trying to have fun.Something that I would be really ecstatic about would be more Mario Kart crossovers. Loved the direction they took with the MK8 DLC and considering the things they have added in MK8DX I think Nintendo continuing this trend is more than realistic. Maybe add some 3rd party stuff too? Would be amazing to see a Wily's Castle track for instance. And who knows? Maybe in 10 years we're still sitting here speculating about which character could make it into Mario Kart 13, haha
I actually wanted a Pokemon MOBA. Something that plays like Dota 2 and showcases a ton of different abilities for certain Pokemon. I'm sure there are a ton of ideas you could go with it and it could be somewhat of a spiritual successor to PMD lore wise. That seems like a really neat genre to try but at the same time, a lot of work to get a MOBA that will do well on the Switch.I have to agree. I'd really like to see them do more with Pokemon. I enjoyed Pokemon Conquest and am glad they tried things like Pokken Tournament and Pokemon Masters. I'd like to see them take the real time battle mechanics from Masters and expand on that and build it into a more open world survival adventure style game. I also think a Nintendo MOBA or just Pokemon MOBA would actually be cool if done right and lend itself well to crossovers like how Heroes of the Storm pulled from different Blizzard games for it's characters.
And I like the gameplay of Fire Emblem and I think it would be cool to see less traditional warriors on battlefields with it's gameplay like how Smash takes nontraditional fighters and put them in a fighting game. Like Pokemon easily translate to that style of turn based grid based strategy with durability built in with the pp mechanic from Pokemon, and Mario characters could use flower power for spells and have a variety of weapons with durability (gloves, parasols, hammers, etc), and pull stuff from other games to help them fit into that playstyle. I think it'd be super quirky and charming like Smash especially if they had support conversations and stuff between characters that could get hilarious.
You know, the reason that I have a major gripe with Mario Kart having Link and Inklings and Animal Crossing, or potentially becoming the next big crossover is that it's called Mario Kart. Smash gets a pass because from day 1 it was Nintendo's icons, and then slowly gaming's icons, and it isn't called Super Mario Smash Bros.I have to agree. No that's definitely a fair point. Unfortunately many amazing Mario characters just don't get much attention outside of one game or if they're lucky a couple of games. You know, the reason that I have a major gripe with Mario Kart having Link and Inklings and Animal Crossing, or potentially becoming the next big crossover is that it's called Mario Kart. Of all the fanbases in the world that should understand this, I'd think the Geno fans would be one of the ones that gets it best: Mario has a ton of characters that are flung to the wayside even when Square doesn't own them. There have been what, 4? 5 Mario Kart games since the Gamecube era? Yet E. Gadd, the entire cast of Mario and Luigi, Piantas, Paper Mario characters, etc are all ignored so that we can have Baby everybody and Pink Gold Peach. Heck, I get if Paper Mario characters are just off limits because they're literally 2D, but the rest of those guys, there's no excuse.
It's nothing against anyone who wants to see Mario Kart become Nintendo All Stars Racing, but I just think it's ridiculous to want the Mario racing game to become an outlandish crossover.
I really hope we are able to keep both the social and competitive/matchup topics active.I totally know how you feel, dude. I was about to say, it would be an easy fix to simply call the next game Super Smash Kart or something. Honestly, there are a dozen ways to incorporate the Smash crossover formula that would sell like mother effing hotcakes. Imagine if they made a full-length, fully fleshed out platformer or RPG with the Smash bros cast? A racing game? A MOBA? Or even if they made a full-story version of Smash a la subspace emissary but say 3-5 times bigger and added Smash run elements, it could be a game all on it's own which could possibly allow for depth that would have otherwise not been able to fit cleaning into Ultimate or the mainline Smash games. You know, the reason that I have a major gripe with Mario Kart having Link and Inklings and Animal Crossing, or potentially becoming the next big crossover is that it's called Mario Kart. Nah, with the whole 7/11 thing, it’d be more likely to happen next week, around the 5th or 6th. Either way, it seems like we’re getting really, really close.Oh yeah so the Smash Bros website is down lmao that's interesting could be nothing could be everything. Though that coupled with:
-The weird European circuit ban
-The Smash Bros YT Channel uploading a new video
-Nintendo Vs talking a lot about Terry recently
-Site being down, Etc.
I'm thinking Terry's video could be out as early as Halloween and he drops as soon as November 1st the following day that might sound crazy but idk weirder things have happened.

The servers were temporarily down but are now back up. Turns out it was an issue regarding the Akamai servers, which the Smash Bros. Ultimate site runs on. I heard the Steam and Weather Channel sites (which also ran on the Akamai servers, the same as the Smash Ultimate site) were also down earlier.Oh yeah so the Smash Bros website is down lmao that's interesting could be nothing could be everything. Well, darn. That was exciting. Oh well~Apparently the Smash Ultimate website uses the same hosting service as Steam, the FEH website, and the Smash 4 and Brawl websites, all of which were down as well, so we're likely not getting anything from it.
I know, we are so freaking hungry right now. The scraps of info can't even hit the floor before being torn apart and gobbled up by 5 different people at once.Well, darn. That was exciting. Oh well~
Can we see it?In the lead-up to the E3 Direct, I had spent MONTHS screencapping FB comments crapping on Banjo and his chances to get into Smash.
When he was announced, I made a slideshow of all the Banjo hate I had accumulated, set to clown music, and posted it in various Smash groups.
It was glorious.
