So I haven’t posted here in a while, but damn, AlphaDream going bankrupt hurts like hell. As someone who grew up with Mario and Luigi, I really hope Nintendo bails them out so they can keep their jobs.

And I’m not trying to sound like an ***, but I think I saw some people saying how Alpha going bankrupt is good for Paper Mario and Mario RPG and all I have to say is: Guys, really? I would love to see both of them back in action, but wishing for M&L to die isn’t the way to do it.

It's some of the ****ing nastiest behavior I've ever seen. People are losing jobs because of this, losing their livelihood, and people are CELEBRATING it because of two different Mario RPGs 'having some possibility of a comeback'? For one, how is M&L even bogging them down? Secondly, uh, PEOPLE ARE LOSING THEIR JOBS? THAT'S KIND OF THE BIGGEST DEAL ABOUT THIS HERE?? DON'T CELEBRATE THAT?

I, for one, celebrate the newly instated unemployment of people whose work is among the beloved and irreplaceable.

As upsetting as the situation with Alpha Dream is, at this point I'm rather curious of the outcome. If Nintendo does end up buying the company it makes me wonder how they approach handling it as well as the characters it has made.

The anti-version of Bowser to match the above. Even more horrifying than you can imagine

Yikes, I didn't mean to come off that way... In my defense, I already clarified that I felt bad for the employees of Alpha Dream in an earlier post where I talked about it, I know they don't deserve this at all. As for the Mario and Luigi series proper, I don't feel bad. It's been on a steep decline since Bowser's Inside Story (which is one of my favorite games ever), but Dream Team and (especially) Paper Jam were not up my alley at all. And the remakes were a bit dreadful for people who really love the original games' artstyles like me. But now It's like they finally stopped beating a dead horse.

And worst of all, it was downright confirmed that Paper Mario was not allowed to be an RPG because of this series. I know this decision doesn't make sense, but i'll gladly throw out the possibility of another generic or lukewarm Mario and Luigi game for a brand new RPG style Paper Mario game.

Hopefully the standout employees can get hired at Nintendo.

And really, it's not much of a celebration at all, for me at least. It's more like a "oh, I hope this means that (x) happens" scenario. We could just keep getting experiments in Paper Mario and no new M&L games as far as Nintendo is concerned.

Oh, no, trust me, I at least was not talking about you. It's all good. As long as you aren't callous like the people who are like, "Good, I'm glad they're gone," with no sympathy for the people working there, then we're chill — and you're not that way. S'all good, my dude.

Heard the news when GameXPlain posted about love their channel. So I know their usually on top of anything Nintendo. But this is something I never want to hear.

I hope Alpha Dream can continue going on making games. I love the Mario and Luigi series. Plus I thoroughly enjoyed Superstar Saga and Bowser's Inside Story when I played them. Great games.

Hope they will be okay.

Hearing a lot of people call Dream Team mediocre, and I'm here to fight you all that your viewpoint is valid and you're entitled to your opinion.
While I agree that Dream Team was a step down from BIS, that game was kind of a tough act to follow and Dream Team is still a damn fine game in its own right in my opinion. That said, the tutorial in Dream Team lasts way too long (it's something like two or three hours until you get to the first non-tutorial area of the game, and it continues to bombard you with tutorials even after that) and some of the later Giant Battles might as well be the low point of the entire series. (Looking at you, Zeekeeper...)
As for Paper Jam, I thought it was... okay. I enjoyed the game enough when it was new, even if it didn't live up to it's potential. I never did bother to revisit it, though, which probably speaks to how unfortunately forgettable that game is. Why did they make a crossover between Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi so damn bland?
Would I appreciate a remake of Mario RPG? Darn right. Would I want one, knowing that some enemies are going to get redesigned for no good reason, or outright replaced? Nah, I'd rather just keep playing the old version. It has aged extremely well, regardless.
Not gonna lie, it does worry me sometimes that an SMRPG remake would neuter some of the game's most quirky and exotic monsters like the Octolots and the Artichokers, or worse yet, remove the best one.

Super Mario RPG has aged very well. Somehow that artstyle really grew into itself a novelty and not an eyesore. This is coming from someone who was slightly bothered by the rough edges on Paper Mario 64 last time I played through it. They definetely nailed that artstyle in TTYD.

SMRPG still looks very unique.
I'm hearing on Liam Robertson's twitter that AlphaDreams project could have been Ring Fit Adventure. What do you all think?

I really don't know where else their involvement could be.

You know how you guys had your Geno dreams? I had one last night. Not really a Geno dream, but he was there. After the fifth Fighter Pass character, I saw 3 characters on the CSS as part of additional DLC. Waluigi, Rayman, and Geno, in that order. I remember a friend at school playing as Waluigi and then I remember fighting Geno in a spirit battle (with him as an actual fighter) and it was on Gerudo Valley, but there was no bridge at all. There was this big wheel with platforms on it that was spinning.

And that's it.

I’ve been playing Mario Kart Tour recently and i’m sad that there’s so many great features locked behind a gacha game. I love the special items, backwards tracks, trick tracks, mission-style objectives, etc. I wish they would just port it to the Switch, add proper Multiplayer and Battle Modes, and call it Mario Kart 9, lol. Also cut out all the gacha nonsense and make it a regular Mario Kart game.

Speaking of which, I think if Geno gets into Smash, he should also get into Mario Kart, as one of our first RPG representatives, who’s in agreement with me? :D

Not to sound like "that guy" but sometimes I wonder if I would still like Geno now if they had spent the last 20 years shoving him into every Mario spinoff title. It's like, in Mario Galaxy I was down with Rosalina, she was new and interesting and wasn't there just to get kidnapped... And then they shoehorned her into Mario Kart and Mario Party and Mario Tennis and everything they could reasonably get her into.

Then again, Luigi's been my favorite ever since I first played Super Mario Bros, to the point that I would often play 2 player just to kill Mario and play as Luigi, never bothered me that he's in almost every Mario spinoff. Probably has a lot to do with whether or not I personally feel like a character deserves to be in the spinoffs.

As it is now, I wish they'd make me sick of Geno.

You're sort of warm, aha. I will say that having an older brother around meant I experienced many games through and with him, so they went on to be very important to me despite me being more capable of comprehending and completing games on my own later on.

I'm only 20. Barely missed out on the N64 era and didn't revisit many of those games and prior until much later. When I was born, there was no umbilical cord, just a Gamecube Controller plugged into my belly button.

Edit: As a funny anecdote, me and my brother weren't allowed to have Melee cause it was rated T for Teen. We had borrowed a copy from our neighbor and hid it from our mother for months. Obviously my brother got older but the first T rated game I ever bought on my home was indeed Brawl. The Game was pending as an E rated game when I preordered it. Parents couldn't really strip me of the experience when we went to pick it up and found out otherwise, lol.
Man, sorry you missed out on the N64 era. Those were some EPIC times. As for Melee, I totally didn't realize that that game was rated T for Teen. I could understand Brawl because of Snake's weapons and ZS Samus' catsuit (the butt shot of her slipping out of the vent must have been too high speed for some people lol). I wonder what about Melee caused it to be Teen?

I always figured it was because Melee had pretty realistic textures for the time, and therefore the violence looked less cartoony. The next Metroid and F-Zero titles to come out after Melee got their ratings jacked up to T as well, so in general it was just a really sensitive time for the ESRB? Four years later, they introduced E10+, so who knows, if Melee had been a 2005 launch, would it have gotten an E10+? Would a re-release?

As a fun fact, Melee was my first T rated game, even if you consider the retroactive T rating given to Earthbound.

I'm so glad my parents never really understood/cared about the ESRB rating system. They simply said, "No gore, no profanity, no nudity." All I had to do was show them Mario and Pikachu on the front of the box and they were good. No way you can go wrong if Mario is in the game. Now, trying to convince them to let me see the Matrix as a kid? That was a struggle.

There was a problem fetching the tweet

This is just pathetic as hell.

I swear there are people who hate certain characters (whether it's Geno, Steve, Waluigi, etc.) so they deliberately try to make a godawful name for the true fans of these characters, Steve here being the example.

Unfortunately, I have also been on some Smash related Discord servers where gore was spammed in the chat.

This community is just plain garbage sometimes.

Yeah, my mom bought Melee for me no questions asked and didn't realize it was T rated until like a year later. She knew the gameplay was wholesome and that was good enough.

I know this is bad, but I can't help but laugh at the mental concept of "porn of grotesque Steve"

Bear in mind this could spread to Smashboards. I'd be weary until the whole situation blows over, y'all.

hey, wanting to prove a point to someone at my college-
Has the Geno in November leak been proven wrong?
If you're talking about the 4chan post that Blocked Content made a video about (in which the "leaker" "predicted" the contents of the 9/4 direct and said Geno would be announced in November), yes. The post with that number was found, had been edited, and Blocked Content was the only place the edited post had ever been seen.

Not saying they did it for clicks, but...

They also raided the SteveForSmash Discord; the ones who did this are a small band of scummy trolls that just wanted to annoy (and potentially scar) everyone with horrible images. One was memoryman.

Man, I really don't mess with that. I was fifteen when I joined this site / started looking around the community. I'm not saying I personally wasn't already ****ed in the head, but seriously, think about the potential of younger kids seeing these images when they're just trying to talk about games they love.

Smh.

I never cease to marvel at the absolute waste of human life these people are. Going out of your way, taking the time to generate such absolute filth and then using one's computer skills to then spam video game enthusiast discords with said filth? I sorry, but the kind of tiny, malicious, WORTHLESS kind of scum you'd have to be to do such things is beyond me. You'd have to be the most petty, screwed up in the head kind of creature to glean even the tiniest amount of satisfaction from such a thing. They are nothing but a malignant cancer on society and should take solace in knowing that their very existence is pointless on every existential level.

Something I've been thinking is while I understand Geno arriving with a stage isn't necessary, I can't help but feel like he should. Stages allow for non fighter content in terms of characters and other features that originate from those games and it's something I feel should be exploited especially in the case of a game left largely untouched for more than twenty years

Oh yeah. Spiral Mountain had so many cameos and nice little references. There's almost too much character in that series to go without a stage, and even though Super Mario RPG is a standalone, it too has a vibrant personality that hasn't shown its teeth in twenty plus years.

I'll be needing Mallow, Bowyer, maybe Boshi pls. I know the general assumption is we would get the Forest Maze, but... What if we didn't? And got something kinda nutty like Smithy's Castle?
No, Geno Boost Geno Boost . Memoryman hasn't gotten any less annoying, likely because Daisy isn't a unique fighter in Ultimate.
When Ganondorf fans come to appreciate his unnecessarily ripped moveset but some people still think Daisy needs unique moves...

I don't know if it's been proven wrong in terms of, "Hi, I did this, here's how I did it," but it's very easy to recreate with Project M + painting over some bits or using fan models to make alterations. Do that, blur the image, bim bam boom, you've got sassy Geno.

tl;dr: Obvious fake.

(I'll be commenting on the Discord situation, but that'll be later because my thoughts are lengthy and I just got back from an errand run. I'm bushed rofl)

ETA: Actually, just realized you're likely talking about a different leak that I'm probably not aware of. Can't say I'm about to believe it if it's just some random 4chan posting. 4chan leaks can be real, but those aren't a dime a dozen. It doesn't happen much.

I got an idea for an evil Mario. He's fatter and has a twisted mustache

I think I'm going to flip his name up. Call him Oiram
