So I tried Mario Supper Sluggers. Not a bad game. I put it on my USB yesterday and obliterated Bowser today lol

How do you put it on your USB? I've always wanted to try it (the first game was pretty fun) but I was too lazy to buy or rent it. >_<

Super Star baseball was cool, although I never got around to getting that many star characters.

petey piranha was unstoppable in mpt. i could sit in the middle of the court and nothing would come past me because of my range. i could get drop shots and lobs purely on reaction. best character in the game

Best character on Mario Power Tennis is most of the Power characters except Wario. Power, Technique, and Speed characters are the best in the game, IMO. Power hit the ball pretty fast, to the point it's hard to keep up with the speed, mostly on courts where the ball goes fast. Technique characters can hit the corners of the court pretty well. Speed characters zip around the court so they can counter the ball. Sad that near every Tricky character is the worst in the game. )=

I never really liked Mario Power Tennis. Mario Tennis 64 all day.

MPT was just...so dumb. In my opinion it came down to relying only on the powerups. Even with them off it wasn't as fun.

lol, options. XD

Mario Power Tennis power up's makes the game more interesting, it also makes the game appeal to new people better than Mario Tennis 64 (control set up wise), before playing at a high level.

I enjoyed MPT more then MT64 actually. It was just all around more fun to play with since the games had more variety compared to 64. Power ups weren't that annoying for me but I can see how others might find them annoying though.

Later on in Mario Power Tennis I just shut off power shots because they made the game unfair. We'd have 6-game, 5-set matches without power shots. Now that's Mario tennis.

MPT > MT64 in terms of gameplay. Actually, now that I remember more, I had a lot more fun with MT64 than MPT. Although the Mario bros. Stage in MPT was great.

MT64 is superior to MPT in music, on the other hand. The 2nd Round theme is amazing.

Matoi Sakuraba was adept at making music though. Listening to the Mario Golf 64 OST demonstrates his ability. I prefer him to Koji Kondo, tbh.

I still like Mario Golf music over Mario Tennis music ;)

:p

The 2nd Stage theme is the most memorable of Sakuraba's song I like, but his Mario Golf soundtracks are overall better. Ring Shot, Dormie Hole, Shy Guy International and Boo Classic of the first MG, Princes Peach's Grounds in MG:TT......awesome.

Know that I think about Mario Golf, I miss Plum in Mario Golf 64. Now that I think about it, I miss playing Shadow Mario in Mario Golf Toadstool Tour. )=

I don't know why Toadette wasn't in Mario Power Tennis... or Toad at the matter since he was in the 64 version of it. XD

I think you're forgetting this awesome song (could go in the Music thread but eh..):

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/X0CXpZRqqC4&amp;hl=en_US&amp;fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/X0CXpZRqqC4&amp;hl=en_US&amp;fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

EDIT: Didn't Toad become like, the ref or something weird like that? Or just a spectator?

Lol, I remember thinking of a tier list for Mario Tennis (64)

Top Tier
Bowser
Wario
DK
DK Jr.

High Tier
Boo
Paratroopa
Luigi
Mario

Mid Tier
Birdo
Yoshi
Baby Mario

Low Tier
Waluigi
Shy Guy
Daisy
Peach
Toad

If you're very skilled, the most desired trait is power and the least is technique. Tech's are designed to have better accuracy. But if you are used to angling the ball, the buffered accuracy is not very needed. Serves can be easy points, and there are times when you can fake out the other player if you land a 'NICE' (which, if you know which spot to release, would be very common).

Speed characters are great on defense, but rarely lead to an attacking position.

All-arounds do have a small bit of each characteristic, but not enough of each to distance from everyone else.

Tricky can be a pain if you're on the defense against one. The swerving ball movement from trickys are the hardest to control, opposite of techniques. It is also the most likely to hit out of bounds if handled incorrectly.

Which leaves powers. Aces are easy points, and there are times when you can fake out the other player if you land a 'NICE' (which, if you know which spot to release, would be very common). Additionally, it is the hardest to recover when a power is on the attack, and have to rely so much on backcourt handling.

Then again, I haven't played in a while, so my judgment may be a little off...

I actually thought that song was pretty par for the course for Sakuraba. But it could be that I was having way too much fun using the Long Putter and hitting the ball 1000 feet off of the course

I seriously agree with this!

I used Mario...hey at least I use a high tier in one game (obviously not Brawl)

Still though if you put the CPUs on intense I feel like they cheated. Anyone else think this way?

No wonder I was losing a lot with Shy Guy vs DK Jr. XD

Wow Wario is pretty high in Mario Tennis 64 , compare to Mario Power Tennis, (which he is near the worst character).

I don't think Toad was involved. There was the interesting announcer.

I always liked spamming the messages you could say, Luigi's were the best...

Now that I think about it, bowser was pretty good in 64. I need to go replay sports games to get ready for Mario Sports Mix.

It sucks how MPT for the wii is far worse compared to the GC version.

Put lines indicating pitfalls about 2 inches away from 1st place in either direction, and you basically have the map layout of SMK's Rainbow Road and MK:DD's DK Mountain.

maple was such a beast in mg64. straight shots and decent power mean amazing accuracy. i'm sure metal mario is a better character, i just never got the hang of that hook.

@ the tier list: paratroopa and baby mario are both amazing. i'll take on those so-called top tiers any day! ;)

Computer's don't count.
Besides, why does the Star Cup and Galaxy Cup ALWAYS have more Power characters and the Mushroom Cup and Rainbow Cup ALWAYS have way more techniques and speed chars?
Yeah, DK Mountain's stupid bridge was terrible, because if you got hit with a Blue Shell someone would just bump you off the bridge from behind.
I have too much of a history with getting blue shell'd 5+ times during a match.
Top Tier
Bowser
Any minute now, Bowser mains will randomly sig this. Gimpy would be proud...

Probably because the computer has perfect reaction time at high levels, and the slowness of power characters doesn't matter when you have perfect reaction time. at a human level though, the ability to move quickly around the court makes a big difference.

I would say that the Grass court style makes hard-hitters even harder to handle. In that game, no computer had perfect reaction, even in Star tournament.
