I expect every single pool is going to be flooded with MK's. They will never look at brawl the same way again after that experience :p

Anyway... Id like to know what the actual bracket is. like whether the top 64 from pools or 128 etc make it out.

Top 64, it's in the Genesis thread.

Our NSW smashers have had plenty of MK experience, they'll be fiiine.

+ Toby is going to win anyway so it doesn't even matter :D

What don't people get about the fact it's the same game? >_>
Whether they play better or not, the same basics are there and that's what counts.

Experience vs our MK's will only help so much against the top American players. Fact.

It's all good and well to know the theory behind the game but actually applying it against the best with the experience you have against Australia is a horse of a different kettle of fish from another ball game.

It's like playing tennis against the local under 16's champion then taking on Roger Federer. You know how the game works but you still gunna get ****ed up.

But we're only talking about pools. To be put against most of America's best MKs in POOLS would be serious pool rapage. and would be awful.

It's understandable about them not doing well against the very best, but they should make it into brackets and maybe a fair way through them.

Or not. Here's hoping.

Who knows though, brawl is a completely different game to melee.

Apparently back in the melee days Cao's Peach got 3-stocked by Ken's Mr Game and Watch. However, we have not encountered any US smashers in 'the brawl age' so it's difficult to judge how well anyone will perform, though most (actually, scratch that. ALL) of us are assuming that US > Australia :/ Which is a pretty reasonable assumption because the US has so much more experience and tournaments compared to us.

I'm going to agree with Zero though, I think our representatives can make it into the bracket at least. Go Australia!

I think some of them can get out of pools for sure. Guys like Shaya who has a real depth of knowledge, good skill and actively contributes to his character's metagame is the sort of person I would expect to do reasonably well. His knowledge won't be lacking, it will be a question of how quickly he can adapt to a style he isn't accustomed to.

As far as I know, I'm pretty sure they're going to have a ton of friendlies before the tournament anyway, so it might give them an opportunity to have a taste of America.

But I'm probably wrong, as they're all spending the beautiful days outdoors on the pristine beaches of California.

While we freeze.

What S.D said fails to take in to account a players relative skill and natural skill. :p
Seriously, I get tired of how everyone says Americans are "infinitely times better than us" without any REAL proof. The only real evidence to back up (or nullify) this statement will come at Genesis. Until then everything said is just speculation without a leg to stand on.

I'll be willing to admit I was wrong though, when and if they get utterly *****.

*Sigh*

Well at least you're willing to admit defeat when the time comes.

You don't have to look that far back to the melee days when Ken came over here and ***** all our best players with G&W.

If you can't see the proof that Americans are better simply by watching top players' matches then I think there's something wrong.

Anyway, I guess this argument can continue in a week's time when the Australian contingent gets brutalised at Genesis. It'd be a nice surprise if I'm proven wrong of course and I wish our guys all the best.

Edit: You say playing them is different? Yes, it's the key difference, when you actually play them is when you realise how ****ing good they really are. When I first came into this scene I watched some of Australia's best players and thought I could compete and the first time I played Jaz I got 3 stocked 3 times. Playing them is when you find out how big the gap really is.

It's the same as guitarhero. Sure we have some really good players. But u go over to America and u face hundreds of people who can almost 100% Fire and Flames on a whim. Whereas we may have like 2 people who can do that. We have some good gh players but they have guitarherophenom who is the same as M2K

america will get ****ed over by our low tier characters
they will be like pokemon trainer is in the game???

but seriously on wifi i cant really tell the difference between americans and australians except when playing the pros in america who **** and play some characters different. i think anyone who gets out of the 2nd round of pools did really well and they should be really proud.

America > Australia. The gap is large enough.

but we're not idiots. we're getting better and we're doing it fast.
Says Shaya as the next American proceeds to **** him without looking.

Yeah the Americans are amazing. We're ave average here but the best players are, of course, in a league of their own.

Everyone's getting alot better though.

Yeah really well :)

It's great to hear that he was able to have that sort of success, I expected him out of everybody to be the most able to develop his game quickly over there.

Hopefully they can all continue to get great results like that!

Now I'm starting to believe they're gonna come back and be the best in Australia.

'Cept EA.
The experience they get over there will undoubtebly equip them with the ability to dominate us when they get back. However exposure to smash over there, particularly from the **** off big tournament that is Genesis will mean that what they bring back will also benefit us. Suddenly we will have players circulating through our community with experience against the best that can only rub off on us :) Hopefully this will be a good thing for our community in general.
