@Icy of course the shotgun will be back. It's the most popular weapon in Gears of War. Shotgun battles are pretty much the main form of combat in the multiplayer.

I got the new Game Informer issue, but it seems as if the link that F8AL posted already has most of the major facts that we know so far. I'll see if I can dig up some of the specifics that weren't mentioned yet...
-The new Delta Squad consists of Marcus, Dom, Baird, Cole, Jace Stratton, and Anya Stroud. Executive producer Rod Fergusson explains that "Jace Stratton is our sensitive one. He's a young soldier that cares more about the people than the war. And he's been taken under the wing of these hardened soldiers. At the same time, he's not some naive, Carmine-like character." We also have the new playable character, Anya. Fergusson says that "Anya has gone from being a desk jockey communications dispatcher to someone who is very capable of handling herself."
-While Marcus, Dom, Anya, and Jace are doing their own thing, Cole and Baird are away on a mission of their own, encountering new playable characters that join the fight out in the ruined wastelands (DIZZY??? CARMINE???). This means that there will be playable levels entirely focused on those two, which is a very good approach. And Fergussun also says that near the end of the story, they will meet back with Marcus and the rest of the Delta Squad for one epic, finale moment.
-As you can see Epic is really trying to focus more on the characters and their individual stories this time around, so we should expect some major plot twists. Apparently part of the plot will revolve around Adam Fenix, the father of Marcus Fenix. Adam Fenix has some sort of message on a disc that gives Marcus the key to saving the world, as well as himself.
That's about everything that's pretty significant so far.

I never read anything in the issue about Bernie being playable... Whoever that is.
And could it be possible that this will be the first game without Carmine? Perhaps he will meet up with Cole and Baird somehow...

Hasn't it been A. Carmine and B. Carmine now? I know you could play as A. Carmine in the Multiplayer of Gears 2 (I think)...

Well according to the GI article Epic has already made levels designed for Cole and Baird only so cutting Cole at the last second wouldn't make any sense at all considering he's a central part of the story.

Not really new pics, Game Informers had them up for about 2 weeks now I think. And the chainsaw hasn't been replaced, that's just a Pendulem Wars Lancer that has a knife attatched to it instead of a chainsaw.

I stand corrected. Guess Joystiq was slow on posting these. Oh well. I like it how Gears of War 3 looks more colourful now. Hope the multi-player is top-notch.

Holy crap, beast mode does look great, plus the campaign should be great, I'm definitely getting this game when it comes out.
