GANON IN '09
YES WE CAN
I'm exceedingly optimistic about Ganon is 2009. I suppose some of my excitement about Ganon stems from my excitement for Brawl as a whole in 2009. The metagame is starting to see some more exciting competitors work their way out of the low-tier mire and into the margins of tournament viability. Though I in no way think that Ganon is going to become tournament viable, I do think that we have enough great players investigating ways to tweak, accelerate, and add to Ganon's game that we will see some exciting developments in 2009.
Before I make my list of resolutions, I wanted to make a couple shout outs and assemble my 2009 dream team. I lurked these boards for a long time before I joined a few months after my attention shifted from Melee to Brawl, and I'm happy to say that there's a good group of Ganons here and it's been a pleasure working with you all through what was a great 2008. In my opinion, these guys are, for their various reasons, THE guys to watch in 2009.

And finally, now that all the tears are shed, let's get down to business.
Below are my top 5 new years resolutions in order. Some are specific, some are generalizations, and some pertain to things yet to be. I hope everyone else takes up the reigns and posts their resolutions so we all know what to look forward to in 2009.

Favorite Ganon: Ray Kalm
This dude is at the forefront of all things Ganon. My go to guy when looking for a level headed Ganon sounding board for new intel. Kalm probably plays CLEANER than any other Ganon I've seen.
Still the King: Koskinator
I mean really, what do I have to say? He stomps harder, UAirs WAY better, and rips more new as*holes than anyone else.
Mah F*ckin' Boi: Swoops
Ganon on crack. I see a lot of my own Ganon in Swoops' play. He's mad jumpy and buffers EVERYTHING...I mean, he wrote Ganon's guide on (reverse) buffering before most of us knew what the f*ck he was taking about. This is a dude I'm alright with duking it out for the best American Ganon superlative. RESPECT. And dude...pull your thumb out of your butt and get that guide back up. It's one of the best guides I've seen and we've got a lot of new blood coming into the Ganon boards who need somewhere definitive to turn.
Up-and-Coming Ganon: Salty Kracka
Kracka and I have some pretty nice dittos together. In fact, he's probably beaten me more than I've beaten him in the times we've matched up. The reason I'm listing him though is because the guy can read his opponents really quickly. I clanked into his powershield only to get instantly shield grabbed who knows how many times last time we played. And I'll admit it...he 3 stocked me on Delfino and it HURT.
Honorable Mentions: The Muscle Behind the Monster: Gleam, Z1GMA
Both these guys have really impressed me with their hard work. Gleam is a vigilant dude, never stopping in the search for new ways to break down Ganon's move set in inventive ways. Most recently he started pushing forward the idea of reverse pivot grabbing, something I'm stoked about as you'll see in my list of resolutions below. Z1GMA recently posted info about the ACed Ledge->UAir which made me very happy. I spend SO much time using the ledge in this game, so anyone that adds depth to this developing aspect of Ganon's game deserves an honorable mention on my dream team.

- 5. Get even grosser with UAir. It's Ganon's best move, bar none, and it's usefulness consistently exceeds it's stale move negation. I <3 UAir so much.
- 4. STOP DSMASHING! My DSmash comes out way too much when I buffer an iDA or a Dtilt. This has to stop.
- 3. Get really good at Gleam's proposition of the reverse pivot grab to improve Ganon's grab game.
- 2. Flubber Ganon. I haven't given up on the idea that my Ganon will FLY. I want to hone my FoG skills to the point where I can bounce up at a moments notice. I don't want any other Ganon to look the same as mine in '09.
- 1. Roll out DAD's Lab, a place where I hope to dissect various aspects of Ganon's game play that I - and hopefully you - are excited to break down to their very minutiae in order to make Ganon as quick, efficient, and deadly as possible in 2009. Not quite a guide, not quite a community wiki. I hope to do this in a way that everyone can be working on different aspects of Ganon's game that they are interested in and can post their findings in an organized fashion so that we might have one place to turn when looking for cutting edge ideas in Ganon's metagame. The first two aspects I'm working on posting soon both revolve around Ganon's ledge game. Ganon's gonna plank in 2009.
