I used the Search function, so don't worry. If the mods need to lock this, then feel free to throw away the key.

I've noticed a lot of people here are video game veterans, I've been playing since '95, myself. No doubt many of you have run across at least one video game you really loved. Basically, I want to hear people implore on that basis, and share what they felt toward that game. Whether it stirred something up in you, influenced you, anything as long the game really meant something to you. Note that it can be any game, not just what people consider "legendary". If you consider Mario Party 5 grand, then tell us why. Posts like, "Melee. 'Nuff said." don't get us anywhere. Everyone knows Melee was epic, but the reasons it stood out to you so much may be different. Two or more people can talk about the same game, and we don't have to stay that on topic, since it would be hard with every poster's opinion. Belittling someone for cherishing a specific game is stupid, though, unless it was something absolutely dumb, like That's So Raven: Becoming Pathetic.

I was going to put my thoughts on Beyond Good & Evil here, but this is my second time typing this post and I can't remember all that I said and it was becoming a text wall before, so I'll let someone else start. You can elaborate as much as you want.

EDIT: Elaborate. Thanks for the grammar notices. This keyboard is terrible.

Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kongquest.

This was the first game I ever pushed myself to complete. I found everything, experienced every nook and cranny of this game and the slightest hint of it to this day still fills me with nostalgia. I then went on to do the same with DKC3, but I feel DKC2 was the better game. Tight controls, beautiful graphics, a brilliant score (bramble blast won best smash bros music in one of these threads, did it not?) and packed full of clever, challenging puzzles, especially with the DK Coins. The difficulty curve wasn't too steep but not patronizing either; it got mean. I think, other than perhaps Sonic 2 and Yoshi's Island, this game marks the pinnacle of 2d platforming.

*sigh* Now I want to go finish it again. I had plans for next week, too :ohwell:

Wow, I forgot all about DKC2. I've only played it a tad, I'd love to explore it fully one time.

When you spoke of platforming, it's weird I was reminded of Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. That game was such a weird mix. Mario and role-playing was actually very fun. There wasn't too much platforming, just enough for me to get frustrated at points. The battle system was unique and I rather enjoyed the cast. I never thought the Action Command would live on in Paper Marios and the Mario & Luigi series, and I certainly didn't expect Peach to start throwing bombs on the battlefield. Mallow and Geno haven't really been revisited, especially the latter or the two.

The music in SMRPG was good quality, even by SNES standards. Sad Song meshed with some scenes very well, and the ending theme (during the parade) was happy, but not overly so as to take away from the scene. And so many of those moments I'll never forget, along with the dialogue. Booster's Tower had me either had me laughing, or weirded out.

I think SMRPG meant a lot to me because it showed that mixes between to genres could work well together, and didn't have to compliment eachother in any huge way. Mario could walk on clouds, step around under water, the story needn't say why--although those may have been tidbits of Mario's previous adventures. =\ Legend of the Seven Stars also showed me that Mario games could have a nice storyline that didn't always have to be so...innocent I guess would be the word. There are a lot of memories I have with that game from "You found Toadstool's ??? to Valentina's laugh. Very well done.

i really put all my effort in that game and had to complete it without using hints or any glitches. I found out the secrets behind this game by myself and im really proud of that. That is why i really liked this game

Super Mario Land, Super Mario Land 2, and Tetris for the GameBoy... because it was my first system, and I got it for free from Radio Disney when I was 3 or 4 at a rich kid's birthday party. They're pretty much my first video games, and I played them all the time on that grey brick without very many colors. The farthest I got was past the first 'boss'. I considered that an achievement at the time, because I didn't finally get that far until years later. >.>:

Whoo.... super Mario Bros. :] I loved that game! So much! And beating Luigi's highscore, letting me play the secret levels was oooh so satisfying! (I'm talking about the 'original' on the Game Boy Color..it had original in it's name)...

Anyways hmmm on the N64, Donkey Kong 64 and Banjo-TOOIE (not Kazooie) are just freakin' awesome! I haven't played Banjo-Kazooie much. I got the ROM for it--but after playing through Banjo-Tooie it just doesn't have a few key elements I got attached to... which is understandable, yes?

It's going to sound terribly stereotypical, but the first game that I really pushed myself to simply annihilate was FF7. Lordy, I had all the final Limit Breaks, every final weapon, every summon, all the materia, a Gold Chocobo...

And yet I never beat the game. :D I came within one room of it in order to get a piece of materia, but then I turned back to go play the game some more.

Super Mario 64

It was the first game I ever played and my all-time favorite game. As a little kid I would just explore the levels and completely forget about getting the star. I still explore the areas whenever I play the game now but I actually know how to get the stars thios time.

i think the first video game that wasnt arcade was super mario land 2 on my gameboy pocket.
the game that really got me into video games was Super Mario 64, i love that game. i beat it like 4 times on the n64 and like 3 times on the DS. i even got all 150 stars in the DS without hacks or glitches.
my other two favorites are Banjo-Tooie and Super Smash Bros 64, such fun games.

I feel so much nostalgia when I hear about some of these games:

Super mario 64, Super Mario Land, Super Mario Land 2, and Tetris for the GameBoy, Super Mario Bros, Yggdra Union, FF7, Pokemon Gold, Kirby 64, Super Smash Bros. 64, Zelda: A Link to The Past, Banjo-Tooie, Super Smash Bros. Melee.
I thought about Super Paper Mario today. It's still new, but I really apreciated the storyline in it. Tippi was actually one of the more damaged people in that game; anyone who's finished it can surely mean that. Of course, SPM never goes too far into detail about it--it's a Mario game. =d I really enjoyed the Flashback Theme music in that game, though. It was a very simple tune, but sometimes I would just sit there and listen to it, there's a lot of variations of it in the game, no matter how subtle.

If anyone wants to go and really detail it up, they can. It doesn't have to be a wall of text or anything, and I like that everyone's saying their thoughts now. :) I'm just really anxious to read something lengthy rather than stupid schoolwork right now.

On a side note, was the mystery of the star statue in Super Mario 64 ever solved? "L is Real 2401"...I always laugh at how people went at it over what was said on there.

I'd say the Pokemon Red and Gold.

They were the first true games that I've ever really completed and the first few games where I actually payed attention to the storyline.

I also envied my brother for getting them too.

He had gotten Blue, I got Red. He got Silver, I got gold.. then from then on he quit :(

EDIT: I'm also gonna say Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Red.

For about 4 days before school started I'd have to wait in my stepdads truck for a few hours before school actually started.
I got this game right before, and the story kept me busy for a long time even after.

Super Mario Bros 3.

Thats my first game Ever. Im not sure how many hours i clocked into that thing. Sad thing was i never finished it.

Legend of Zelda Ocarina of time

Yea good ole Ocarina of Time. Best Game EVAR with Twilight Princess tied with it. If it gets a Graphical and control update for the Wii, Im going to camp out side the mall. But i know it will never happen. Here's waiting for another ground breaking Zelda(1:1 sword Motion Controls Common)

Twilight Princess: Seriously its Darkness rivals Majora mask. Its motion controls make me so immersed into the game. And no i don't waggle. I think i almost broke my Wiimote when i hit the chair with it.

Jet Force Gemini: Back in the day Jet Force Gemini was the best 3rd Person Shooter on the Market. Its last boss was considered one of the Hardest in Shooter's. I can't believe how long i searched for the Triabal's.

Super Contra

1 hit you die. If that doesn't get you pumping your concentration you must be on something.

Not long ago I went on an Ebay spree, bought a NES and heaps of games.

The morning Mario Bros 3 arrived I sat down at 11 and didn't get up until 3pm when I'd finished it. There's no way i could have finished it as a kid. That was a truly epic game.

Halo. (Not Halo 2 or 3)

Was the first storyline I really cared about, felt like I HAD to beat it. Up until this game I never really cared, just went through a few games. Then after beating the story, it drew me into playing online and set up what I play today. Was totally different from the usual 1 or 2 completions then done with the game. I also picked up learning Photoshop and other programs for making maps and such for it. Which I expanded on and now go to school for (Graphic Design). So yeah, thank you halo.

I swear, I teared up at parts... It was a fantastic RPG. I just hope they make a sequel.

Chrono Trigger: Opened up my eyes and changed my view on RPGs. The very first RPG I played. I have the game stored in a special box. My favourite game of all time, even after 13 years.
SSBM: This game introduced me to competitive gaming. It's also a lot of fun when playing with your friends.
Ocarina of Time: This is a masterpiece. It stands as one of the greatest games in history. Even today it totally blows away some of the recent games that came out.
Super Mario World: First game I have ever played. Introduced me to the gaming world.

It had a stable enough storyline and the battle system was very different. I just got annoyed when I ran out of cards and couldn't do anything.

I read Super Mario All-Stars in there, Kosuke. I cherish that one. You got 1,2,3 and The Lost Levels too, and maybe something else, can't remember. It was all in one pack, though, and the revamped graphics and music weren't bad at all.

Viper, I agree with both of yours. Kirby's Adventure was the first game in the Kirby series I played--it's on Brawl somewhere, but the loading time and amount of time you get to actually play it aggrivates me. I own Pokemon Puzzle League and Tetris Attack (thank god for GameStop), I love them both.

Foxtrotter, I liked both of those games. I don't know if they're coming out with one for DS, I remember reading somewhere a Baten Kaitos for the DS...anyways, they were both very fun and beautiful RPGs. Except for some parts in Mira that looked nice but annoyed me whenever they felt like it.

I already know about your adoration for Chrono Trigger, AllGoodNamesAreTaken. ;) It's weird though, I have the GCN version of Ocarina of Time but I never have time to play it, or choose something else over it, like a game I just bought or something. Same goes for Twilight Princess. What's ironic is that I'm choosing games like Super Mario World and such over them, because minimum wage is at least good enough for getting a game for seven bucks.

This is starting to look like a list, and i have to go to work in five minutes (third day in a row, none tomorrow thankfully), so I'l have to come back later and see what games I missed or aren't posted yet.

OMFG..

I missed a few games:
Sonic 1,2 and 3: Some of the first few games I have payed along with Super Mario World. These games were sick... coming home from school and head straight to my basement and play for hours. xD
Tetris and Pacman: These games are legendary... I think I spent a few hundred bucks on them at the arcade.

Ahh... good times.
~Will be back.... *is looking through a box of old games* ;D

Super Mario World was one of my first video games ever, and I played it constantly as a little kid. When I matured enough to finally beat Bowser and the game, I was so proud of myself.

Oh, and Super Mario Kart was another one of my earliest games. I remember trying so hard to beat Star Cup, and when I finally did, BAM! Special Cup pops up and it's a whole new game. I finally conquered Rainbow Road and the rest is history.

Pokemon Blue introduced me to the vast world of Pokemon, but Gold Version was probably the best Pokemon game I've ever played. It was so fun, mysterious, and deep...R.I.P.

Lastly, I guess I'll say Super Smash Bros. Melee. Thanks to that game, I was introduced to the wide world of Nintendo and I'm glad that happened.

besides mario and zelda and what not i would say star fox 64 and jet grind radio.

both of them are extreamly short taking me a short while to beat the storty. i think like 30-45 for star fox taking the hard route and 2-3 hours for JGR.
even though they were short i could beat them 2 or 3 times a day and not be bored of them.
i still have my 64 with star fox but my JGR stopped working then i gave away the DC. **** DC with its easily scratched games.

Once I played that game, I really felt immersed in the game. Best graphics for the Gamecube, with awesome upgrades and amazing bosses. I really have to buy it, it's my favorite game.

I completely forgot about Super Mario Kart. When I used to go get babysat or whaver, I played it all the time! It was one of my first gaes ever, I think. (I later got to play the NES there, so SNES was my first system, then the NES.)

People here are giving me so many memories...

Mine was the Super Mario World edition.

I bought my SNES off of ebay a year ago, and a bunch of games came with it. All-Stars (non-Super Mario World) came with it, along with F-Zero and some other things, one of them being Super Mario World. Weird, huh?

F-Zero for SNES was pretty deep for a console racer at the time. Mode 7 and amazing physics. Even turning and such were smooth. I loved the Big Blue theme, and Silence. There are paino remixs of each on OCRemix--instant download.

Metroid Prime 1

I was skeptic about Metroid games that long ago, and now I'd really love to play one. I always hear such grand things about Prime, too. Curse my past idiocy!
