Fund for smashers who can't make it to apex?

Alright so, I am seeing a lot of funds popping up for specific smashers that are pretty good and would make a good show if they attended apex, but what about random joe smasher #29? Is there a general fund raiser for people who just want to go to apex and compete even though they may not even make it out of pools? Is there a fund to help out some of those guys?

Has anyone thought of starting a fundraiser for people who are just a few short?

I give money for a specific fund because I really love watching matches with the player.

I'm not really hyped watching a match of random joe smasher #29 generally, so I don't want to give money for him.

Where's the return on investment? It sounds harsh, but if random joe smasher #29 isn't likely to add value to the tournament experience of whoever is donating, then there is no incentive to donate.

Maybe we could start a betting ring for random smashers and generate lots of revenue. Then we can use that to fund more random smashers and just generally have really large tournaments with random hype lol.

...wait that's an excellent idea.

That could work. Gamble to get the chance to go to the next big tournament?

Only top players, regional teams, and international are worth raising funds for. I think there are other ways which are much more effective to bring in more players to tournaments and have incentive to get good.

To entertain the thought: The concept could work if the smash community was highly organized and over the years took 1-5% of all finances from all tournaments in any region, where it is deposited into a unified or singular account for travel expenses of players when it is absolutely needed. But, again the question will always be raised because the community does not have infinite or vast resources. Is it worth it sending random joe smasher #29? It's best to keep the energy spent amongst the pillars of the community. The model is much more fitting for non random players.

Like said above, a raffle to sponsor a random player to attend a big tournament sounds more interesting, but again I am only entertaining the thought. It's not worth it.

I like the smash lottery idea. We can make like a powerball show of it. Everyone picks a neutral stage and 4 numbers, then 4 GaWs go to a random stage and use judgment. Pot is split between winners; but, as it is with everything cool, stupid law would get in the way.

If we got enough people we could add colors to the numbers so there's less winners. **** I want to do this now, apex lottery and 2% of earnings go to venue. 1$ per guess.

It'd be neat for each big region to have APEX qualifying tournaments. The top 2-3 players from each regional tournament would get a free/cheaper ride to apex. If I recall correctly Javi got into apex 2012 through something similar. East Coast for example could have 1 or 2 big tournaments like this, maybe also west coast/canada/whatever big regions there are.

You wouldn't NEED to play in these to go, but it'd be good for skilled players who don't have the financial ability to afford something like APEX.

Probably has a lot of flaws but it could happen.

Well...I'm pretty sure that exists. I don't know if apex gives stipends to the players who win the qualifiers, it might just be seeding points, but you win the pot from them anyways and it's usually a fairly large amount at the qualifiers. 1st place has got to be enough to cover a portion of hotel fees.

is fun a good element to be added to your apex 2013 experience? you be the judge.

fun is only at $150

might i add, i think im a decent player capable of causing upsets in bracket

the random joe smasher is the majority of the community if you ask me , take the big names away and new ones will pop up, take us randoms away melee may just DIE . why not have a pot system set up where money is donated and saved to be used to help send who dont have much money to bigger tournaments. example there were 300+ entrants at apex 2012 right ...how many of those do you think were top well know players ........

I dont think this is a good idea but maybe if we had an ongoing fund that would go to buying legit TO's good stream equipment or maybe 1 for good venue? Is recording alot more players with better quality streams a good return on investment?
or a fund to a specific piece of equipment. also i think smashboards could make some kind of seperate section for funds with sub-sections to encourage donations.

I think you have to earn your right for someone to fund you the apex thread has been posted for a while save all your pennies and go to the tournament. Then while you are there **** everybody and earn your right to have a fund for the next one.

Maybe highest donater to fund a high skilled player gets something out of it? Idk how that will work unless smash is really organized or something.

Sounds like Zodiac wants to go to Apex!
I do want to go, and I probably will, I'm running a fund raiser + My own funds and it got me thinking about what other people might do.

but that aside I have seen some good ideas, I like the tournament one, where skilled players can qualify by placing high.
