PSA:
Make sure you guys check road conditions before heading out of town for WCSL. I-5 (Grapevine, the fastest way out of LA to San Francisco) was closed last night and most of today because of snow from the recent storms. I guess it's open now (http://www.ktla.com/landing/?Freeways-Reopen-as-SoCal-gets-Break-From=1&blockID=160115&feedID=171) but there's another storm heading for the region and things could get bad again.
So BEFORE YOU GO, make sure you find out if I-5 has any issues. Check the Caltrans website for updates or try Google or latimes.com. If the 5 is closed, the best alternative is to take US-101 up the central coast. You'll go through Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo and San Jose, and the trip will take 2-3 hours longer than going on the 5, but the road will be open and you'll get there safely. It's also a much prettier drive and you'll get to stop at my old college town (SLO) for tri-tip.
Just be safe and prepare yourself for having to go either way. Get directions to your destination via the 101 or the 5. Get phone numbers of people in the other cars going up. And DRIVE SAFE. We don't want any accidents (just ask NorCal, they have like 3 crashes each time they visit us ).
