From what I hear, it seems it was a big success. The only negative being Nintendo's unwillingness to cooperate.

Not to be the bearer of bad news, but a developers unwillingness to cooperate will kill the games changes. Look at EPIC Games and Gears of War 2...

But hopefully, Brawl won't fall into that hole because of how popular it is.

I'm actually kinda getting sick of hearing this.

nintendo has never said no. they have not responded to MLG's request to upload their videos.

its not like they don't want to let us have our videos, I'm pretty sure that being one of the top 3 game developers in the world may delay their response by a couple months

I agree with Ripple. I doubt strongly that Nintendo would have reason to refuse that gameplay from one of their games be shown to the general public. If anything this is just a matter of corporate gears turning slowly, and legal hurdles to jump to be on the safe side. (no one likes law suits, and Nintendo can be on the finicky side)

Actually, it makes perfect sense for them to not reply. I think its obvious that they did not make smash to be competitive and are afraid by supporting smash that they think it will make the casuals freak out or something. At the same time, they will know the outrage that will come the competitive community, and the surprising amount of power we have influence on there game.

Why? I think Nintendo is afraid that by showing the gameplay competitively, it will show flaws in there gameplay. because the game isn't meant to be competitive, they can slide a bit on balance. Casuals will start wondering why all they see all the top spots at tourneys being taking by MK, Snake, and a few other high tiers, and why most the cast is not up there. (though to be fair, there was a decent about of character variety in MLG Orlando, making it MUCH funner to watch, though we still had MKs in a few top spots)

In other words Nintendo would actually be held accountable for real balance in there games, and in order to maintain there smash audience they would have to try harder to balance there new, inevitable smash4 game. This takes more money and time, and if you look at the wii.... nuff said.

So whats the best thing they can do? Nothing. By doing nothing they don't take sides. It makes perfect sense.

However, I think you can expect them to inevitable allow livestream, they can only ignore the problem for so long. Just do not be surprised if it takes another event or two before it actually happens.

Now let me keep in topic with the thread, MLG was AMAZING. It was the first major tourny i have ever went to and it was a blast meeting some of you people. The Hype was awesome, and watching some play was great, the atmosphere AWESOME (Chaz, I wish you were my father, cause you don't punish ANYTHING). I look forward to attending all the events i possibly can.

@AZ

You seem to be more in the loop then everyone else. Do you think they will get the rights to livestream. And if they don't do you think they will stream it anyways eventually??

MLG will not take any risks it does not have to, so unless they get permission don't expect a stream.

As per getting permission, I'm hopeful, but really the factors are outside MLGs control, which stinks.

oooh! i really outta sit in on that, that sounds like it'd be a fun listen
NAh man, you need to find out when the Suddoth twins are playing Halo, and go check them out. They are the main draw in the AM section.

I love SB and Halo, and MLG, so the three coming to Columbus is a dream come true. SO much better than GOW

This was my first MLG, so it's hard for me to know how MLG will look at it because I don't have any other MLG events to compare it to. From what I heard, attendance was at an all time low.

Now, while FL is a **** location, it's in the corner of the country. Hella people couldn't get there. A lot of people, including myself, estimate that Cbus will be way larger, as it's location is more convenient, and it's timing is as well.

Smashers need to represent, and show up. Trust me, having 300+ smashers at the event makes it definitely worth keeping Smash on the circuit. 187 is meh.

The Midwest itself (including both Midwest-E and Midwest-W respectively) is capable of cranking out mad amounts of attendees, with Midwest-E easily being able to hit 100+ on its own. Attendance at C-Bus will definitely not be a problem. I have a feeling some more WC and Texas will be able to show up to this as well. Like Pierce said, the timing is also convenient (the beginning of June...? Can't beat it).

From my experience I think it went very well. There was a lot of hype considering the number of people that were there, which I think stood out. Brawl was more hyped than Tekken 6. The Tekken 6 finals were a little more hyped, but overall Brawl got way more hype in my opinion. The entire event went great.

I think Brawl and MLG have a bright future together; this is only the beginning.

I'm by no means a veteran in this topic, but I don't think that the "Nintendo doesn't want it to be competitive thing really is the issue." There is not really a good reason to not support a competitive scene that trumps the reasons to support a competitive scene. I mean, look at Pokemon. It has gameplay imbalances, but it still works, and has international first-party sponsored events. Heck, even the TCG and (I may be wrong on this one) Figure Trading Game has events!

Plus, the videos released on Nintendo Channel that were produced by Sirlin kind of go against the noncompetitive stance.

EDIT: Oops I just realized I wasn't really on topic that much.
