i see that your location is in michigan. We've been having melee monthlies, switching off in ann arbor and east lansing. Both have had over 30 entrants, which is quite decent for melee. Here's the thread: http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=286110Lol, but if we're talking Midwest, we need to convert people. The region actually has a decent Brawl scene but no Melee scene. If people don't convert, the Melee players are going to either have to play Brawl or not play in tourneys. Our region is really kind of screwed....
This post is soooo ****.People keep saying "let them taste the goodness that is Melee" but have any of you considered that maybe it's not fun for them to pick up a game with a very stupid learning curve and ridiculous mechanics? I mean, we might not have tripping, but CC and some of the nonsense that makes up this game's high level play can be excruciatingly unappealing for a lot of people. It is possible that they went to Brawl because you can get into it and there's less to learn. It's also possible they like the slower paced game. Maybe they just like Olimar and play it because he's in Brawl and not Melee.
The decision to play a game often boils down to taste, which is really, really subjective.
Melee takes a long time to learn, too. The prospect of spending a year learning the game and getting your tech skills down and learning how to apply them in matches so you can finally "taste the goodness that is Melee" can be a real turn off. A year is a long time. I suppose talent and other nonsense can help alleviate that, but it takes a while to get decent at all at this and a lot of people just don't have that drive.
With all that said, I don't think there's anything wrong with asking people if they want to play some Melee if you think they might be interested. But actively trying to recruit people from the Brawl community seems a little ridiculous to me.
this happened to me 2 years ago, i never regreted making the switch.just let them play brawl
that's the fastest way to convert them
Same here, I can relate completely.this happened to me 2 years ago, i never regreted making the switch.
if any brawler reads this, just so you know.... it was SOOOO worth it
haha i couldn't agree morejust let them play brawl
that's the fastest way to convert them
Yeah exactly LOL. that's why melee is still alive after like 10 years. Honestly, after smash 4 or whatever comes out, brawl is probably going to be really small lol.i still don't understand why ppl play that game
it's slow and boring and everyone plays like a ****** and melees way funner
i don't get it
I sincerely doubt you could keep yourself alive and unhittable even for one minute on FD. Maybe 2 with practice. No, but I can surely waste 4-5 minutes of your time for me to screw up before I do it again.
Being a jerk to make people hate either game works both ways was my point, it doesn't do anyone any good nor does it actually get people into understanding what the game actually is instead of the exaggerated ones people come up with.
Let people play what they want, introduce the games to them fairly and let them decide what they want to play.
Don't be a **** just to get people to hate a game, pretty childish to do so.

My point is that brawl is way gayer than melee. Both games have stupid crap, but I've never seen a tourney match in melee go to time, for example.
Edit: well, one. Lol Rockcrock
