As @Final Smash Gamer suggested, here is a nice-looking roster. Y'all won't like it because I made a lot of cuts and picked a lot of alternate choices as opposed to popular/predicted ones. But it's nice-looking and it's my roster, so I can do what I want.

Stop making fun of the renders yew guise! How mean! It isn't easy to find a decent Crono one! It is for Scizor, but the others didn't fit the space as well. Same reason I didn't use Smashified Ridley, which is obv a better piece of art.

I haven't for a minute treated it as an actual prediction, and therefore I suppose the caveat is that it's not a great fit for this thread (the less stringent roster thread closed down), but I think it's still a fine roster. Just not a likely one or one that prioritizes merit in the same way as Sakurai.

I don't think that invalidates a roster on the basis of still being a decent roster, just on the basis of being one that has any chance of happening. Are the likely rosters the only good ones? I don't think Sakurai's method of making a roster is especially sacred when you're not aiming to emulate it.

I think it's more that you included Isaac with the Zelda characters instead of putting him with the single character series, though you've also got the Metroid and Kid Icarus characters grouped together, as well as Kirby, Star Fox, and F-Zero, so it's not a big deal.

I was actually working on Sami, but it's been pushed back into oblivion between the comic, and my commissions, and other stuff. That said, I would be down for making more.

I'd like to tackle Crono in fact, seeing how badly they botched Toriyama's artstyle in that render, especially when games like Xenoverse already exist, that perfectly capture his style in 3D, makes we wanna give it a go, so a good render is out on the web.

On that note, I'll take requests for character renders in fact. Just as long as they're not too obscure. I've improved considerably, so I'm sure I can make them a lot faster now than it took me to make those ^^^ two. Bear in mind they'll take a while cause I'm busy, but seeing as how popular my Lyn and Isaac renders became, I'd be happy to make more.

It's a reboot, which is guaranteed to trigger everyone ITT, lol. Idea is, everyone gets new moves/redone to justify the cuts. Like it or not, that reboot bridge will be crossed sooner or later.

Shantae, Shovel Knight, Banjo, Anna, Rayman, and many others on her Roster aren't 3D models either. In fact, Anna is straight up 2D art. The rest I mentioned were all hand painted to look like 3D models, but still 2D art.

Oops, must've missed that one. Well, fwiw, this isn't my "ideal" roster either. If it was it'd probably have my main and current fav character in Smash, heh. As well as a few other characters I gave the axe to.

And I cut Cloud for the same reason I made most of my cuts: partly because he was one of the characters I didn't view as overly integral to the series (along with the other DLC characters (minus Mewtwo), most of the clones/semi-clones, and some supporting characters from the bigger series), and partly because I wanted to make room for new characters without bloating the roster. He's also an unintentional example to show my roster wasn't guided primarily by bias.

You guys are reading into the pics I chose a bit much, lol. I just chose the ones I chose mostly because they fit the Smash aesthetic. Anna doesn't, but I couldn't find one that did with her Fates outfit, which is my favourite of hers.

If you are taking requests though Manly, it'd be great to get a 3d-looking Simon Belmont pic that's halfway decent. There's a horrible dearth of good Smash-esque Simon pics. It literally took me years of on-again off-again searching to find the one I ended up using.

Honestly, IF there ever is another Smash, which would be years down the road, I don't see many, if any, cuts from the WIIU/3DS roster, but likely will be additions, and these 5 characters are the most likely to be added:
Inkling
Another Pokémon (Sceptile possibly)
Another Zelda rep (Tetra, Ghirahim, Impa or Lana)
Phoenix Wright (he might be unconventional, but anyone who has played Marvel vs Capcom would admit his moveset would be perfect for an environment like Smash Bros, and the Ace Attorney series is a Nintendo staple and is highly popular in Japan)
A new retro character (Mouser from Super Mario 2, Donkey Kong Jr., or even someone else entirely)

And I'm throwing in 4 Wild Cards, characters that could potentially make it in the next title-port or otherwise -and this is regardless of whether they have any realistic chance of making it in:
Elma (Xenoblade X)
Chun Li
Sigma (I know a ton of people on here want K Rool, and as much as I like K Rool, I think Sigma from Mega Man X would present better potential move set wise-I know I'm crazy for picking Sigma over K Rool as the next new playable villain)

As for cuts, as I said, I don't think there will be many, but if there are any, I could see Cloud AND Bayonetta being removed, and this leads to my last , and least probable Wild Card, the two of them potentially being replaced by Lara Croft, though IF she ever were to make it in with Cloud still in, imagine having Ryu, Cloud, Lara Croft, Sonic and Mega Man all in the same game. 90s kids would lose their minds. I know this last scenario is extremely unlikely, I know.

I don't expect the actual Smash 5 roster to go as cut crazy as I did, but just generally I don't understand why people still expect no to minimal cuts. We get cuts going forward each time, and now with the roster only getting bigger there's even more reason that a larger aggregate of characters could face the axe. Especially since the roster leaned so heavily on the Brawl-Smash 4 era of Nintendo's offerings.

For sure. Some variation of this is what I imagine we'd probably get in Smash, should he somehow ever get included.

I honestly don't see Bayonetta being removed. It doesn't make sense to me that they'd have a ballot that lasts over half a year where people all over the world could vote, announce that a certain character is the winner, and then remove that character in the next game.

Also, Bayonetta's a Sega character, so you'd think that if they're negotiating for Sonic (who seems to be the closest to a sure thing out of the third party characters), they'd get Bayonetta at that time as well.

Out of all the third party characters I would say Cloud has the biggest chance of getting the axe. Mainly because of Square Enix being Square Enix and that Cloud will still have to compete with all the other third party characters to return in the game.

I mean honestly Cloud is kinda the most likely of the third parties by default, simply from Sega, Capcom, and Bandai Namco being on another level of chumminess with Nintendo.

I'm just saying that if it comes down to Sakurai wanting to cut a third party character from the game Cloud would be the front runner for that given Square Enix didn't want to fully commit given they only let Nintendo use like 2 tracks from FF7 on the Midgar stage and had no additional trophies other than Cloud.

I also recall reading a Sakurai column where he mentioned it being a "miracle" or something that Cloud was able to get in the game.

To be fair, the song thing might be because DLC was made on a budget. Street Fighter only got two songs as well. Yeah, it was three versions of each, but still.
