If we're going with the idea that franchises are organized into rows, what other characters (that we may not know of) do you think are filling the Locked spaces?
For example, one of the pictures has the top left corner of the screen slightly visible, as such it can be inferred that the column where Pikachu is could be the leftmost column of the character selection menu (wherein the major mascots of the Mario, LoZ, and Pokemon Franchises are organized going from top to bottom (Mario to Link to Pikachu)). From here, the bottom row progresses with Pokemon out to Lucario, from here there are three spaces until Marth is reached, going back to the franchise-row idea (with most recognizable/famous franchise mascots being placed first from left to right) and the fact that we know Greninja is one of the Pokemon and that it is plausible that Marth is the first FE placed on screen (from left to right) it is thereby plausible that there could be two more Pokemon reps, namely Mewtwo and Jigglypuff.
Continuing with this idea, notice that Samus comes three spaces after Zelda, so barring Sheik and Toon Link, it is thereby plausible that there could be one additional Zelda rep, likely Ganondorf. With regards to Samus herself, it is reasonable to infer that ZSS will be the slot next to her (as it is likely to be the same with Sheik being next to Zelda); since there is then a 3rd slot before Pit (the mascot of Kid Icarus) is placed, it is plausible (and backed up by the angled picture slightly showing this box to Pit's left) that the final Metroid Box does indeed hold Ridley. After Pit there is another locked box before franchises are switched again onto the Villager, this likely signifies that Palutena is in this spot. The same can be said for the Kirby set in the top row, where a locked space exists between Dedede and Fox, plausibly signifying Meta Knight's place. Continuing along this row, we can see the top right part of the screen so it is plausible that the 3rd slot after fox is the rightmost slot of the top row, considering the possibility of Star Fox having multiple reps (with the return of Falco/Wolf) and going off the fact that Brawl's roster had 3 "independent" characters (characters from franchises that had only one rep, namely G&W, Snake, and Sonic) in the rightmost column, it is possible we could see the return of Falco and Wolf with an independent/third party character taking the rightmost spot in the top row. Rewinding back to the left side of the top row, we see 2 slots between Peach and Yoshi, more than likely representing Rosalina and Bowser, respectively. Directly after Yoshi's slot there is another blank space before the franchise switches to Donkey Kong (with DK being the "flagship" mascot of the franchise), I hypothesize this slot to be Wario. Since we know Diddy Kong is confirmed, it is likely he takes the spot adjacent to DK on the right, yet there is a third slot before the franchise switches to Star Fox, I hypothesize this spot to therefore be King K. Rool.
Going back to Marth, it is likely Ike who takes the spot directly to his right. This leaves 3 slots before the showing of WFT, since 3 FE reps has commonly been hypothesized, it is thus plausible that the second slot to Marth's right will hold Chrom, with the two slots between here and WFT representing either more independent characters or (although it is unlikely) ANOTHER FE rep, which could possibly be Robin.
With all of these characters covered, the only character left that we know is Olimar, who I imagine is placed either next to the Villager or between WFT and Sonic. With all of the known characters accounted for, this means 22 of the current "Locked" slots could hold the aforementioned characters with 11 being the ones that are heavily supported by the Community/Rumored. This leaves an astounding 8 more additional characters aside from those I mentioned (possibly being characters such as Chorus Men, the Miis, Shulk, etc) Which comes to [30 Known + 11 Locked (Community/Strong Support/Rumors) + 8 Unknown] totaling to an incredible 49 total characters (give or take 1 as my math might not be 100%) with a random slot (possibly being the box in the bottom row furthest to the right, which has some slight coloration) meaning a board with a slot number in the high 40's (50 would be an uneven shape and my numbers may be wrong). I personally believe that 48 is the most likely as this would allow for 12 columns of 3 making an even rectangle. Coincidentally this is in line with the RosalinaX leak which listed 48 characters (including the 4 cuts).
This is my analysis of the leaked pictures, now I want to know what you guys think. Agree? Disagree?
PS: Thank you for taking the time to read my analysis and apologies in advance if my numbers are off.
