I think the Melee revolution may be starting in Dallas. This saturday there's a tournament with melee singles and brawl doubles (not run by me, by someone else who also thinks that's the ideal tournament). I'm also going to be doing weekly Melee/Brawl smashfests with the emphasis on Melee. If they go well and I think enough there will be enough support for a tournament big enough of out-of-towners, I'll do one.

Some people are finding that playing Brawl made them better at Melee, since it forces you to play smart instead of fast. Now if we can only convince everyone to treat Brawl not as a game but as Melee-training...

Anyway, Brawl is slow and boring, and I don't enjoy it. I want a fast, combo-filled Melee tournament, and I want it soon. I'm done with school on May 9th, so it would be great fun to have a Melee tourney that weekend. AGREE OR NO?
I'm done with school the 6th and I was thinking of driving down to SA that weekend. I don't think I'd really want a tournament since I haven't played Melee in a month so all I'd want is a smashfest. If I could make a special guest appearance in the Austin friday things on my way down, or if someone would have a smashfest sometime in San Antonio that wasn't saturday evening, that just might be the motivation I need to make the drive.

If anyone feels like coming up to Dallas this weekend for a smash double-whammy, there's that Melee singles/Brawl teams tournament (probably won't be huge since it was just announced yesterday), and also a Brawl singles tournament sunday (the sticky).

So with that conclusion, all the smash people do is play Melee and Melee only?

Seriously, this can be said about any other game.
Remove Brawl with another fighting game title, and there you go.

I'm seriously lead to believe that most of the smash community out there just dont know too much about fighting games at all.
I'm new to the Smash scene, just started Brawl. I play it because I enjoy the game, and I didn't like Melee all the much but I know how high level play of that game works.

In general, almost no matter what game, the smarter player will always win.

This is just such an odd topic.
Sure you guys like Melee and all, but jeez...
I really don't know what to say about this issue.

Smash community is strange T_T

You took that sentence waaaayyyyy too seriously. I thought it was pretty obvious that I was at least 80% kidding.

An observation: while forkgirl made the point about Brawl supporters being players that were never good or even competent at Melee.....

On the other side of the fence we have the people that more or less usually won or placed 2nd and 3rd at Melee tournaments, such as DoH and Xelic (both Peach players HMMMMMMMMMMMMM:psycho: She got nerfed pretty bad HMMMMMMMMMMMMM:psycho:)

Lol I'm just joking around, although some people could or probably have tried to argue that Melee players hate Brawl because they're aren't good at it, or because they're trying to play it like Melee, or because they aren't owning as hard as they used to. I was never super amazing at Melee, and I still prefer it. Gimpyfish plays BOWSER and still prefers Melee.

It's just a bunch of dumb finger pointing when it gets down to that. I will continue to host tournaments, for both Melee and Brawl, and other games soon as well. I have found fun simply in hosting the events, regardless of whether or not I'm actually entering them.

As for my opinion? Melee is better, because who takes Mario Kart or Mortal Kombat seriously? Those games are more about having chaos and cool effects, not about who wins or loses. And how can anyone be serious about a game with a design philosophy like that?

And lawlz at the Brawl being Melee practice. I found that in retirement, my off characters have gotten better and my mains suffered a lot. But it probably has more to do with me not worrying about practicing one or two characters.

I did win two Brawl tournaments, so I don't think I was terrible when I was in practice.

In my opinion Melee is a much better game than Brawl, pretty much everything was better...even Link :( Thanks Sakurai you fat bittch. But still......most people play Melee/Brawl because of the community. I've met a good chunk of my IRL friends through Smash and I'm sure its the same for A LOT of people who are part of our community. Personally, the only reason I've kept playing any of the Smash games is because my friends and love for competition. I don't see why it matters so much which game we are playing as long as were all together just chilling and having a good time.

So tell me darling, do you wish we’d fall in love? *whistle whistle whistle*

Mr. C is right. It's all about the love we have for one another, not which game we're playing.

But if we have to decide on what to play for a tournament...make it Melee.

I hate everyone.

Is that enough reason for us to choose the better game?

Jordan's making me post here even though I don't go to/read this board anymore. :'( I also blame Drew, though indirectly.

Anyway, there are two main things I want to happen with the rules here:
1) Banning of repeat characters within sets. You have to play a different character for every match. No lucky nonsense interfering with my wrecking everyone with random prowess.
2) No Icicle Mountain. ...I think that one is self-explanatory. You can't actually fight on that stage.

I also think maybe there should be a shenanigans system, whereby if you get a bottom-tier matched up against a top-tier, you should be allowed a single repick. And maybe if you lose a set, you have to turn to the victor and say "You owned me." AND IF YOU STOLE GALT'S CONTROLLER AND/OR MEMORY CARD IN THE LAST TWO WEEKS, IT WOULD BE POLITE TO RETURN THEM. That is all.

THAT WASN'T ALL. I just thought of two more things:
1) Entry should be $1 + a food item.
2) Deodorant. This is a private place, and you can't go and stink up Jordan's apartment. So BO checks should happen at the door.

If it's the 9th instead, you'll get Dallas. Specifically, bluezaft.

EDIT: where the pokeballs at?

LIVE FOR THE SWARM!
I don't think Brawl is nearly as fun or exciting. There's nothing that's gonna be OMG WTF BBQ THAT WAS AWESOME in Brawl.

Every tournament we goto we still have awesome combos that everyone just jumps up and yells. Ken Combo nowadays is the norm, but we still have freakin HOLY CRAP moments. Yet, the Ken Combo is pretty much obsolete now. I'm sure everyone can recollect those amazing 0-death combos. This is what made tournaments exciting for me (besides just hanging out with people I never see).

The reason why I play mewtwo is simply because he's fun as hell to play and I can pull of some dirty 60-70% combos and edgeguard with quadruple bairs (lolz). And for the people that know me, this is when I jump up and scream like a little girl. However, I absolutely hating it when people pick like.. Pikachu against me. Not because it's totally unfair, but it's just.. one or two hit combos and retreat. And this goes on for about 5-6 minutes. Playing against Fox is just as unfair, but a ton more fun for me since it's just.. you can pull of those insane combos that people will remember.

Brawl, on the other hand, just leaves me kinda snoozing at times. If people enjoy the one or two hit combos and then MAYBE hit them again if you can guess correctly, then all the power to them. But none of this stuff excites me. It's just not as intense, not as much dazzle, not as much WOWness to me. It's really worse than playing a mewtwo ditto for me for the most part. Nothing is better than totally mind-gaming your opponent into a freaking huge combo.

Oh, and the game is too slow.. I've always been a fast paced game person.

EDIT: We should have a SC tournament too :) That **** is intense. Example.

Xelic, I'll go to this. But I think you should ban Fox or something if you're going to turn on all stages. It would suck for you to lose to someone who sucks (everyone) because you're up against Fox on Yoshi's Island.

uhhh nevermind I'm not even an austin smasher
You're allowed to come if you want, by special permission of Steven/Galt/formerly-Sheik-twin. See, there's a triangle involving the usage of our respective residences. Leo uses my room constantly and pretty much lives here about 1/3 of the time, so I'm allowed free exercise of Jordan's place, and he can use Leo's apartment whenever he wants. And I said you can come, so it's allowed. As long as you bake something for us.

After all, you have been saying you were going to visit, and whatnot...

I never really liked the Warcraft else I would. It just didn't grab my attention.
I used to play SC like 10 yrs ago and SC2 is about to come out that's why I got back into that
