Moon Monkey, I wasn't getting personal about it and I'm not offended, I was just curious; simply stating 'he ain't coming back' contributes nothing to the conversation (especially if you've given your opinion previously), so why say it?

And Habanero, I definitely agree with what you're saying about Dr. Mario's previous appearance in the series. If nothing else, he was mentioned in SSB64, playable in Melee, and got some new MyMusic songs in Brawl (as well as being among the planned characters) - Sakurai definitely has a soft spot for the Dr. Mario games (maybe he played a lot of the Dr. Mario NES original?), though I'd prefer it to be represented in other ways rather than Dr. Mario himself. Maybe an assist trophy of the viruses? A stage taking place on Dr. Mario's desk? I'd say make a level inside the Dr. Mario bottle itself but that whole stage would be one giant Cave of Life so most players would grow to loathe it.

Dr. Mario's main detracting factor is that there are many, many more appropriate Mario franchise reps which should come first and people set an imaginary cap at 5 characters per series; however his main redeeming factor is that at the end of the day, even though Sakurai isn't too keen on bulking out the roster for the fans this time around, he has historically added a few clones to the mix just because they seemed convenient. I don't personally think he'll be in SSB4, but I definitely wouldn't rule it out.

Well forgive me in my mind "Yeah...He ain't coming back" equates to "I'm anti-playable Doc".

I wasn't aware that I had to state something that pertains specifically to your current conversation. I was under the impression that I could go into a thread about a subject matter and simply state my opinion on the subject matter and be on my way.

The way I see it, a thread is a discussion. Negative one-liners (and positive one-liners for that matter!) don't tend to contribute to that. Don't take it as a personal insult; more like me expressing my distaste as to how this thread has descended into back-and-forth games of "I want him in", "I don't", repeat ad nauseum.

But enough of all this, I wasn't trying to cause disrespect. Surely we can all agree though that Dr. Mario is deserving of some kind of representation in SSB4, even if it isn't Dr. Mario himself? I would definitely be on-board for a Dr. Mario costume, but that very much depends on how characters are presented in the next Smash. Considering all this talk of customizability and personalized experience from Sakurai, as well as the fact Namco Bandai are onboard, I can definitely picture there being some bigger involvement of costumes involved.

Well that is pretty much what this thread in particular will boil down to. People that do want him or don't. And with the lack of SSB4 news/interview most things people dig up to support their claim will be a stretch.

But anywho, one topic (major or minor depending on how you view it) I brought up in another thread is that idk what Doc will use to creatively use that will be the equivalent of Mario's FLUDD.
A syringe possibly??? idk. And that is to assume that Mario still HAS the FLUDD for SSB4.

Well, is it necessary for Doc to have move that is an equivalent of Mario's FLUDD? I don't think so.

I'd personally prefer it that Mario got his old spin back (with a new animation and hitbox qualities that resemble his Mario Galaxy spin) whilst Luigi gets the Poltergust for his down B. Dr. Mario, if included (I personally hope he isn't) would hopefully have a brand new down B, though I'm hard pressed to come up with something he could do that would be both representative of his games yet still in character. Some suggest he should be able to do things like summoning Dr. Mario viruses (akin to how Dedede can bring out his underlings), but to me, summoning viruses seems like the most out-of-character thing a doctor character could possibly do.

A giant syringe would be a hilarious weapon though, depending on how they implemented it. Considering the entirety of his game takes place inside a bottle, maybe he could bring his bottle out as a move to absorb specials, either to do damage like G&W's bucket or to heal like Ness and Lucas's Down B's - Dr. Mario as a healer and heavily defensive character (but still very much based on Mario) would make much more sense than his Melee appearance as a 'roided-up Mario brother.

Mario won't have teh FLUDD for Smash 4. So rest easy, Doc would still be a full clone.

With a roided up F Air. Perhaps.

Although I'd prefer as few clones as possible, if Dr. Mario does come back, I agree in saying that he'd almost certainly be a full clone, or at the very least, one of the most clone-esque characters in SSB4. After all, the main thing the Doc has going for him is his status as an easy 'plus one' to the roster, from a development point of view at least - at the end of the day this is funded and produced by Nintendo, using Nintendo properties, so no matter what direction Sakurai wants to take the game in (and how much freedom he claims to have) he's probably got Nintendo execs breathing down his neck giving him deadlines and criticisms.

In an ideal world there wouldn't be clones in the next Smash, but it's easy to forget that Smash is a money venture - not to mention the fact that Sakurai has made some unique, perhaps controversial decisions in the past - so I wouldn't put it past the next Smash having 3 or 4 clones on top of an otherwise healthy roster.

I don't expect clones as bland as Dr.Mario actually, when Brawl only had 'clones' in style of Lucas, Wolf and Toon Link. Who are very unique characters all togheter, only with special moves based on Ness, Fox and Link respectively.

But that's assuming he would be just as bland as he was in Melee. Assuming Dr. Mario was included, I imagine he'd be at least as de-cloned as Toon Link was in Brawl - similar animations, similar special moves, but very different effects in-battle.

As he's just Mario in a different cannon, who as his most unique move in Melee has throwing a pill instead of a fire ball... And he lacks the unique abilities or different equipment for a moveset that say, Lucas and Toon Link have, I have little hopes for him not being the blandest rehash of a character in Smash. Him being of the exact same stature, height, weight and everything as Mario doesn't help much either. As you know, in the end; he's just Mario in a doctor suit. I don't think that's much to write home about.

I could probably make an entirely unique moveset for ALL the Brawl 'Luigified clones' ; Luigi, Toon Link, Lucas, Wolf, Falco and Ganondorf. With Dr.Mario, I'd be hard pressed to even make him as unique as Luigi was in Melee... And everything his 'possibilities' bring are just farfetche'd ideas I'd rather see them spend time with developing a character with actual abilities.

All in all, I view Dr.Mario as a lose-lose situation.

In PAL, Dr. Mario is heaver than Mario :p

I see what you're saying though; I don't want Dr. Mario but I like to play Devil's Advocate in Dr. Mario arguments since it always seems like people greatly exaggerate Dr. Mario's negative qualities, his lack of moveset abilities (Falcon and R.O.B. say hi), or feel that the inclusion of Dr. Mario would somehow hurt the chances of other characters (namely Toad, Waluigi, Bowser Jr. and Paper Mario).

Some ideas people have for Dr. Mario are incredibly farfetched though. I'll point again to the example of people wanting him to be able to spawn Viruses, which is literally the opposite of his character function in the Dr. Mario games (that is, to remove the viruses).

As CalumG pointed out, Dr. Mario is easy to add and would be a last minute rush into the game character when a full character would not be possible. Clearly Sakurai wanted more characters in Brawl that missed out according to his quotes. I feel that we may get some rushed clones in the end to beef up the roster. 50 looks better than 45. They will not be taking the place of full characters in this case because there probably wouldn't be the development time for full characters.

I'd prefer if Roy would be a last minute clone. Cause he at least has much better moveset potential. And best, he's not just a different Marth in a different cannon.

Is he not removing viruses within his flask by infecting people with them? :troll:

Maybe he should walk around with that sack as his Down B, and when he trips the virusses fall out.

After some thinking, it's rather hypocritical of how you say Impa has so much move potential, when all she does is drop a ball of energy and make a barrier (which everyone is already able to do), but Dr. Mario doesn't. :awesome:
And with the way you say she should get Sheik's old moves, it's almost as like you're saying that she's only worth being a new Sheik and has nothing good. :troll: So that's why you want Sheik gone. Because all Impa will ever be is a Sheik clone.

mfw learning the truth:

It all makes sense now.

Nah, she can have a kung fu fighting style as based on her pose when doing the barrier. She can have the barrier, that magic ball attack, mix up her regular moves with magic infused attacks a la Zelda / Lucas / Lucario. She can throw Deku Nuts and disapear and she could team up with Zelda as a double character with lots of possibilities. Plus, since she trained Zelda to be Sheik in OoT, of coarse it makes 100% sence she could do everything Sheik can.

Dr.Mario is the exact opposite of this.

Nope. None of this happened in-game, therefore it cannot be done. Just like Doc can't be a medical fighter. :troll:
Impa will only ever be a Sheik clone. [/argument]

Well, at least Sheik replacing Impa wouldn't mean she'd be a clone even if she'd have all Sheik's moves.

Shame for you Mario will never be replaced with Dr.Mario. ;)

Dr.Mario will always be the worst character rehash ever in Smash Bros. history [/argument]

I appreciate the power of GoldenYuiitusin to wage a war on two fronts at the same time.

1. Fighting for Doc here
2. Fighting against Adeleine in the Speculation Chart thread.

Well done!

At this point, it's more or less trolling here, now that the truth about Impa and why Sheik "must be replaced" had been revealed. :troll:

Diddy, Roy would likely get in before Dr. Mario so in the scenario I am stating, he would be in it.

An Idea for a final smash:

Basically, the opponents get trapped in the jar and Dr. Mario throws Megavitamins at them. In the end, the get launched off depending on how much damage they accumulated.

What's wrong with clones? Game makers get the easy street while us fans have more characters. It seems like a win-win to me.

I'd be more interested in playing as Doc Mario than regular Mario personally.

If you're not going to contribute to discussion, it'd be best to just not bump the thread.
I'd rather it had been bumped once I made my revamped Doc moveset.

Doc Mar is pretty important to me come to think of it. I should add him to my sig.

Problem is my sig can't decide whether it's a wish list, or a prediction list, or a Mr. Driller public awareness campaign.

I personally just want some of the better traits of Dr.Mario being passed on to normal Mario. Down-B would be the most obvious. I'd namely would want the extra bit of overall power for his A moves. Oh, and the doctor's weight too.

Down B was practically useless, not all of his A moves were stronger, and their weights were the exact same (outside of Europe, where Mario was lighter than Luigi and Dr. Mario for some reason).
