Wait, it is really legitimate? I saw the image but didn't pay attention, and I guessed him saying "a real leak" was just him being ironic lol
On second thought, someone in a Discord server I'm in claims they share a server with this dataminer and can confirm they're s***posting. Not to mention the SSBU Modding server hasn't said anything about this.

There goes that theory, I guess.

Slots are real.

Casinos have slots.

Casino Night Zone was a stage in Sonic 2.

Tails had his first appearance in Sonic 2.

Safe to say, next fighter essentially confirmed.
Ah, but you forgot something. Three Seven Speedway in Daytona USA is named for its slot machine.

Hornet is the car from Daytona USA.

Hornet confirmed.

Random question but was WayForward ever credited for the Shantae spirit or not?

Casinos were the theme of the first area a certain Sonic character was playable in. Y'all asking for Tails and **** when Blaze is objectively the best Sonic character

No it's absolutely real.

They 100% mean nothing. As of right now, there are 10 placeholder slots in the WoL file, plus the 9 existing DLC characters is 19 slots with 15 dummy strings. Characters arbitrarily replace or do not replace placeholder slots, which means there is no obligation to fill every slot.
From the looks of it, all the placeholder slots mean jack when it comes to theories and patterns. At least, that's what I got out of it
To be fair negotiations took place long ago enough that Crash 4 not doing big numbers in Japan (something that admittedly shows why a simontantous Switch release could have helped it) wouldn't affect his Smash chances. Crash in general feels like a more mainstream Banjo-Kazooie choice anyway, with a focus on the Western market while still being familiar with much of the Japanese audience.
I don’t think relevancy in Japan is THAT important. Especially when dealing with a character that would make the west go crazy. If we were talking about someone more lowkey I’d understand. But Crash (as well as others like Chief & DoomGuy) are huge enough in the west to cancel out the Japanese audience being bored/confused. They didn’t care that Dragon Quest isn’t big in the west after all & the west is their biggest market.

You know, considering we're getting Switch news at the moment from last week with Bowser's Fury, New Pokemon Snap and Persona 5 Strikers, I wonder if we'll hear anything about when this is supposed to come to the Switch anytime soon. It's been almost a year since this Twitter post and we haven't heard anything of it since.

that game's rated AO and to my knowledge the only digital market that allows AO games is Steam so it's most likely Nintendo was like "nevermind we can't allow this sorry"

While there is some consideration of the Japanese market (hence why Western popular characters often end up as base game selections like Little Mac & Ridley) part of it likely just comes down to communications/negotiations with Japanese companies (who have characters that appeal to that market) is just easier than do so with Western ones. Microsoft was a major exception and involved getting the main character for the most sold game of all time, hence being worth whatever effort was needed. I do think at least one other Western character still has a decent shot in the second pass, especially given Nintendo does have better relationships with such companies now.

The difference between Crash and someone like Doomguy is that Crash at least had a huge presence in Japan to the point where any recent success or lack of it won’t matter. I don’t think Doom has ever been that notable in Japan in terms of sales. Even Banjo-Kazooie used to have decent success in Japan. And Little Mac was a base roster addition, not DLC so there is that.

In terms of the future of FP2, I can see the final three being Rex, Dante and Eggman.

Rex makes sense as the first party pick, since most other choices have been spirit evented (IMO spirit events deconfirm). That means Paper Mario (who would’ve been an obvious shill pick), Impa and Akira Howard are goners.

I’m not too sure on Dante, but I can’t see another Platformer (Crash/Rayman) alongside Eggman, or another Fighting Rep (Chun Li) with Min Min already in. It seems a Rep like Dante would see some more variety.

Finally, Eggman. Again, not too sure, but if Activision isn’t getting Crash in, I can see Eggman being the final character, in September. And it would have less controversy than Byleth, so that’s a plus.

In other news, I can see Bowser’s Fury and Monster Hunter getting Spirit Events soon.

Could they really not think of any other Sonic game to use other than the Olympic one? I get that Forces isn't everyone's cup of tea, but wouldn't Mania at least make a bit more sense?

Not to mention that Crash Bandicoot and to a lesser extent Spyro the Dragon are only ones in that trailer who have yet to make their Super Smash Bros debut.

But realistically most only see Crash making the cut.

Yeah, I definitely feel this apart of why we have minimal western characters so far. Another being that most of the Japanese third parties we’ve gotten so far are more popular than any western characters. That pool of huge Japanese characters is starting to dwindle, so it makes sense that they’ll delve into western sruff

I definitely feel that’s a point in Crash’s favor. But if DoomGuy’s support remains high & the new Doom games keep doing well, I don’t think that’d be too much of a problem. If there’s a high demand for the character in the west, I imagine that would negate any low Japanese sales.

I imagine Hero did alright in the West, but he’s probably the highest selling character in Japan.

Slightly off-topic, but will Ash have a Grookey in the anime?
I'd imagine all starters will be caught eventually as per usual, but with a quick check on Bulbapedia, Grookey has appeared exactly once in the anime (EDIT: and the appearance was incredibly minor), which furthers the notion that on the off chance that we do get a Galar starter, it ain't gonna be Rillaboom.

The weirdest part of this ad is that they pushed Crash and Spyro instead of Mario Odyssey and LM3. Especially Mario Odyssey, one of the switch's biggest games. I'm not going full tinfoil but this is a weird choice for the ad.

And its not even a case of going for recent games given they chose to highlight BotW over Link's Awakening.

Given Spyro's presence this is probably a Western thing. Don't look too much into it.

I don't know why people are questioning the lack of Super Mario Odyssey and Luigi's Mansion 3 in the ad. It very clearly means that:
  1. They're trying to take eyes off of Super Mario Odyssey so they can surprise us with Super Mario Odyssey 2.
  2. Luigi's Mansion 3 got Wahoominati'd
i guess that may also explain why no LM3 spirit event....

Its not a reading into it, its a weird choice. They advertise BotW as LiveStudioAudience LiveStudioAudience so it would make sense to advertise the big Mario game or at least LM3.

Wahoominati is too powerful someone stop it.

You'd think Next Level Games getting bought out would've saved it...

Nintendo already did state Crash was Iconic back in the March 2018 Trailer, but it's nice that they pretty much stressing it here as well

Though I agree with Riley that since Spyro is mentioned, this is definitely a more Western thing due to Spyro's History over in the East. However that shouldn't discount anything that this ad might suggest

at the least, I'm pretty sure Crash was either talked about, or in the Process of being talked about when talking about Next game (and he's not in Ultimate), and Spyro was probably considered too. Then again, I don't think the Ad needed to tell us that anyway
