one can even argue that master chief will be a big name base roster addition to the theoretical next smash game to sell it; who says he has to be saved for dlc?

Real talk, I'm very, very excited about this. Everything felt incredibly fitting. With this, I got one of my MWs in both passes (BK and now Sora). Speaking of, while I'm excited to add Sora to my sig with the respective rules, I just wanna say... please, please don't take this **** for granted. I know Nintendo has just shown - again - that they're more than capable of doing things differently than we predict, doesn't mean they'll always do it. What just happened was a ****ing miracle.

So please keep that in mind. Let's just be glad that the hype train didn't crash and burn, and enjoy this reveal like it deserves to be enjoyed.

With this, it feels like the end of an era. Not just for Smash, but on a more personal note, Sora was my last Brawl-era MW not in the game yet. Everyone else is a character I started supporting in the 4/Ultimate eras (like Phoenix and Arle) or someone who didn't even exist back then (like 2B). It all feels incredibly surreal to me.

As for the future... I'll be back to support my new MW in the next game. I hope those who had the patience to read my bull**** LoLposting will be there too.

Because as it turns out, dreams do come true.

I don't think Master Chief would top Sora to be honest. In the West he might get a bigger reception but as N3ON said you would lack the japanese reception. Also, Microsoft already having 2 characters in Ultimate kinda makes Master Chief less "impossible". Actually I think it's just a matter of time. Assuming Microsoft and Nintendo maintain a decent relationship in the following years, I'm quite sure he's gonna make it in Smash 6.

What I could see being at the same level is a Sony character, especially if it's Kratos or Nathan Drake as they're some of their biggest names. I don't think I have to explain why that would be big. Most of their big characters also lack japanese popularity, but between western appeal and the absolute shock that would be to have an actual Playstation character in Smash, I think it could rival Sora's addition.

Beyond that we would be talking about non videogame characters.

after all the magickal disney stuff, when they showed the whole FP2, I fully expected to wake up in 2018 wondering who the first dlc character would be

Yeah, already having Microsoft on board might lessen the shock factor of Chief, but I still do believe he'll make an incredibly huge impact similar to Sora reception wise, at least in the West. As for a Sony character like Kratos, that's the one thing that I legitimately believe might surpass Sora's reveal unless we get someone like Goku (I still believe...) but that's a whole other topic.

I have no idea what the next Smash game will look like, but I hope we get big icons from other platforms like Master Chief, Gordon Freeman, or if the impossible becomes possible; Kratos.

Yep. Will probably need another line, because there was a lot of **** people argued about when it came to Sora.

Also, can I just say I love the fact that people argued for months about the keychain, and Sora fans proposed a bunch of solutions... and then the Mickey keychain is literally the first thing shown from the character? That gave me a good laugh, I'll admit.

Can we talk about how they left Nick All Stars Brawl alone by not shadowdropping him, but still just said ''Oh it's so cute you're doing your little Smash thing?" So precious." and then just dropped a megawatt reveal like Sora on it's release day?

Well, I didn't get Rayman, and I'm sure not ready to wait ten years until the next Smash for him. Four out of five still ain't too bad, and even though I never actively rooted for Sora to get in, KHII is still my seventh favorite game so now I have a whopping five out of my top ten games represented in Smash (not counting Smash itself...). I'm getting to old for all of this, it's about time to retire from speculation, it was a good run and at least there's fresh blood carrying the mantle. The next Smash will only be a shadow of Ultimate anyway barring some miracle port, so there's not much point in sticking around.

Sora was one hell of a banger to end the series on at least, so much for disappointing finales.

I've always wanted Sora and I grew up with KH so I love the series, but I never really considered it as a possibility because of Disney. I can't imagine all the legal hoops and work they had to go through to get this done.

Definitely the best possible last reveal for Smash.

Considering there's currently no LoL game even on the Switch, doubtful until one actually comes around.

Remember not to discount that it's not just perceived impossibility that accounts for megaton reveals; the popularity and demand of said character also plays a big part. Mega Man being a good example who mostly lacked the former but very much had the latter, and was indisputably a megaton. If he didn't get in before the ballot his performance on it would've been insane. And the fanbase often enjoys getting things for which they loudly and repeatedly ask.

But yes, Chief is losing the stigma/benefit of being outside the realm of what could happen. However, he's also gaining popularity, and will assuredly only continue to do so, whereas no Sony character really has that right now, in terms of fanbase demand. Mix that with just how big Halo is, and I do stand by that even with the fanbase become more accustomed to him as a candidate, he would still be able to equal Sora. In the west, at least.

You're also going to have factors that lend to the perception of greater magnitude among your average Smash consumer, like being the undisputed and longstanding mascot of a rival console, and currently not having any of his series actually on a Nintendo platform. He is the face of Xbox, while the baton over at Sony has made the rounds a fair few times. I think being the one and only Mr. Xbox still carries a lot of cache, even with MS's new cooperation.

Probably worded in a different way. Should be said that the goal of this thing is to show it can happen. Not that it will.

On a sidenote, I never would have expected Sora to be part of Second Chance Theory. Kinda shows how we get tunnel vision, even with characters we like.

I mean, ultimately it changes very little for me, and probably others too. Especially because it'll take two more weeks for the drop.

I don't think a Spirit Event is feasible, sadly. I'd say it's up to next game for us.

That said, I'm more than happy with the ground we gained, and I'm really grateful to everyone who went to the LoL threads. Depending on how things go down the line, we might have a shot in a few years.

Yeah, I maintain those will be the biggest two reveals for Smash. The first for what it meant for future addition possibilities, and the second because it was the most requested character Smash will ever see.

Not to minimize later popular characters, but just think how much Sonic would eclipse every other character if the ballot rolled around and he still wasn't in the game. Just try to fathom how overwhelming it would be. Just thinking about that hypothetical army scares me to the core. :laugh:

Looking back, I think Kazuya might have my least favorite third party trailer. I absolutely love the character but he was pretty much revealed instantly in the trailer with no suspense.
