Yeah, personally I got here just to talk about Smash. I might try going to the Social Thread once the last character is revealed because after all this time it would be kinda weird to just stop coming here, also because I like the mood and the people around here.

Still, I think Idon's suggestion is at least worth the consideration. I think it's a good idea.

It is.
Fates definitely has the best gameplay of the FE 3DS games, and it's not like I hate Awakening or Shadows of Valentia. It's overall better balanced than Awakening, where the pair up mechanic was kinda easy to broke, while in Fates it isn't as busted as it was before and at the same time, enemies are also able to use said mechanic. This sentiment is generally echoed by others in the Fire Emblem community.

Fates Conquest specifically is the best one in that sense. It's the most challenging route, with overall better and more interesting maps and unlike most entries in the series, it's fairly well balanced in harder difficulties (though it's not perfect). To the point where Conquest still has the best gameplay/map design balance in the series, IMO.

But yeah, the story is mostly kinda bad and stupid. Birthright is the best one story wise, but still weak. The writing in Fates had some problems, and the fact that there was different writers for the actual story dialogues and the support dialogues doesn't help, and it shows, because some characters definitely feel different when you compare their story and support personalities.

Still, I think Fates being a bad game, as some people claim, is just nonsense and something folks exaggerate just because the story wasn't good. Fates still has a fantastic soundtrack, slick and fast menus and UI, possibly the best gameplay in the series, great settings, some of the best maps in the series...
I myself feel more attached to Shadows of Valentia, but overall I definitely think Fates Conquest specifically is the best FE game of the 3DS.

The bad rep of the story/writing and the whole Corrin in Smash drama back then has definitely clouded people's opinions on Fates if you ask me.
I like to think of Fire Emblem Fates is a game of high highs and low lows.

If you can stomach the lows, you have some great things to look forward to.

Yeah... I always said I'll be falling off of the damn Earth once DLC is finished... but eh? Will I? What if I did just chill in the social thread? I like it here, and while I'd continue my routine of showing up for a few weeks then disappearing for months... I'd still enjoy checkin' in. I dunno.

Makes sense. Shame, I'd probably stick with PC, but I think having an MMO on the go could be a cool experience for a lot of people.

Do we have a launch date for NGS on the Switch, though? Just curious.
I'm pretty sure New Genesis is already on the Switch, considering New Genesis isn't a separate download from PSO2. Basically, download PSO2 and you get both PSO2 and New Genesis together.

That said, PSO2/NGS is on Steam, so it could be played on the Steam deck.

The Tellius games are overrated and I never got why people find them amazing.
And that's someone who got them at release.

So ya, I never understood Ike's appeal honestly. He's fine but nothing outstanding. I prefer Chrom by a thousands for exemple-
Maybe Im missing something.

Hello there, this is my first post here, even if I checked this thred regurlary since approximatly 6 months (I think). I just wanted to post something, but didn't have any good ideas... until now. So, even if I think this one of the most out there theory ever made, I will share it here (actually it 2 of the most out there theories ever made):

1st theory: Inspired by epicmartin "statistic color theory", I tried to use another attributes of smash fighters: their names. I wrote a little scrit who determines the frequency of use of letters and the average length of the smash's characters name, thrown in some other mesurements, compared it against a "standard" list of video characters, because, if smash comes to include more and more fighters, the closer the "smash part" of stats should ressemble the "standard part", so the next dlc should bring us towards this equilibrium. This script returned some intersting results on the form of a "probality score", so I though that I would share some of the most... intersting results: (the first surprising result was that no smash fighter had the letter "q" in his name)

crash : 5.049
geno : 75.12
imposter : 427.752
the knight : 439.548
master chief : 568.086
phoenix : 10856229.566

So... yeah, I think it's obvious who the next character is gonna be that this point (actually, phoenix is just carried by the "x", and it's surprising that only fox has this letter in smash when it's rather common in games).

For the second theory, I took Sakurai last post before the Pyra/Mythra and the Kuzuya presantation, and the latest "non-smash" pic of the day and...:

(I think this is even more obvious: Reimu is a lock)

(Edit: forgot to mention that none of this is serious, just in case)

I was a huge fan of Path of Radiance on GC, and Ike was probably my favorite inclusion in Brawl (his inclusion also helped to soften the blow of Lyn's AT reveal then)

I really didn't care for Radiant dawn on Wii though.

Its because Ike is the hottest between the cast of FE characters in smash. He´s got a buff version and thin version for all the needs. He only needs a fat version to cover all grounds

My wife once told me that "your first is usually your favorite."

In the case of Radiant Dawn my first and Path of Radiance my second literally every other title has interested me less to the point of trying that Chinese game about the maid banner in France or whatever but even it just made me want radiant dawn 2 lol. It's worse than couch lock.

That's the thing
Path of Radiance was my first.
Got curiois about Fire Emblem with Melee as a kid and well, I never...got into it, and even got disappointed.
In comparison, when I later went for older titles,I ended up loving them, and with Awakening? I still think it's the best in the serie-
I guess It's a matter of taste, which is bound to happen in a game of rotation cast, lore, stories spanning through an array of consoles, just like Final Fantasy does

The name stuff is is going over me head a little bit. Is it that the higher the number, the more likely they are going by the Name theory, or is it the opposite. What I would say is that It is odd Reimu not present in game in any form. What I do like here is that you manage to find Connecton between these pictures and the Touhou, even if I don't think that was intention of posts of course

Also welcome here. Have fun speculating with us, though I think Speculation for DLC about to end really soon anyway though, but better late than never

-------------------------------------

Also on the topic of Having Jumps keep their momentum from a Run, I think Sonic would have been the perfect Character to have his Jumps affected by the Momentum from him Running. His games are momentum based, well at least the Classic Games. the more modern ones are less focused on the Momentum aspect, but they still have it, especially ones that have Spin Dash

I think the reason they might not have went with it was Because I think it would be weird to Transition relative to other Characters. I'm gonna assume Sakurai and the Dev Team wanted to make Sonic a character Casuals can pick up and play with easily since he is a Very Popular character Casually. I think Another Sonic character could probably take a Crack at it if introduced as DLC in FP2, so long as it's not Eggman

Thank you for the welcome, and I realise that I haven't been too clear on the theory. In fact, you can consider only one letter, for exemple "a". Say that in smash we have 2.1 "a" per name in average, and in the "general gaming" (of which samsh is a "subdivision"), we have 3 "a" per name. If samsh takes more and more characters, the "a per name" ratio should increase to 3, so, statisticly, the next character should bring us closer to that point, and be in the [2.1;3] "a per name" range, or, more probably, the [3;infinite[ range. My script use a given name letters, then averages all the letters stats and modify the results so that names too long can't "cheat" to modify too much the score and that's it.

(And I realised that wasn't your question, but yes, the higher the numer is, the more they are likely; I will still keep the explanation, just in case)

This thread will still be open until the conclusion of the final presentation with Mii Costumes and all rather than the day the character is announced in the Direct, right?
It should stay open until the mods make a "Smash 6 Character Speculation" thread.

It’s likely the entirety of the Newcomer Speculation sub-forum will be closed until we get some kinda rumors or confirmation of the next Smash game, just like we always do.
Whoa, really? So just...nobody gets to discuss the characters they want between games? That's surprising to hear.

Just a heads up though, our General Social thread is pretty rad.
Can you post Smash wishlists in it?

"The YOUR characters is less desserving than MINE" argument can **** off please.
Like and enjoy your character, don't put down other's taste.
Never!

Buck Bumble is not as deserving as Hayabusa! I'll see you in hell, Buck!

Well, it's up to personal taste, as most things are...
But
I think it mostly comes down to contrast.
As far as FE Lords go, Ike is the least lordly of all of them, both inside and outside.

Even at first glance compared to every most other FE Lords, he's rough and rugged. His clothes have noticeable wear and tear on them, he wears a raggedy bandana, he wields a humongous blade, and when he talks it isn't with eloquence, it's with a blunt simplicity. He's not a Prince or a King, or even anyone important, he's just a man.

As a fan of him, going across his games it's really personally amazing to see his character growth along PoR with a solidification of his character in RD. At the start he's just a naïve young man, but he learns and grows and reflects upon every event that happens to him while still retaining his good heart and simple mindset. At the end of the day, Ike really doesn't care about anyone's lot in life. He treats them all equally with respect, or when appropriate, disdain. It feels weird to say this about a guy who kills kings and gods, but he's strangely... relatable as a man's man.

In short,
I like Ike.

Will say this could just be a coincidence, and a huge one at that.

There has been rumors of a new Xenoblade game coming soon, and of course that piles on top of the Direct news, so take it with a grain of salt. The 8th isn't very far away, after all. We'll know soon enough.

I think I've gotten used to this thread being used for Smash and occasionally general Nintendo stuff whereas the social thread I used for everything else (non video game stuff or non Nintendo/Smash related video game stuff). Once this thread closes down, either the social thread will drastically turn more Smash discussion oriented or Smash discussion will just drastically decrease on the site in general, either way, condensing everything into one thread rather than two will have a pretty drastic effect on the site discussion in general.

So, assuming we do get the Direct next week after all, now the million dollar question.

Will we straight up get CP11 shown off, or will it just be a "Tune in on X date for a Sakurai Presents the FINAL challenger!"?

And, will it be the first thing shown off, or the last?

As someone who has done a look into the Radiance games, it deals with some heavy subjects like prejudice and racism, social status, etc that play a huge part in it's story and world building and it shows alot of detail to it's characters than just good versus evil, compared to Awakening which, while it has it's details and tough moments, never really does anything with it's subjects outside of like mentions and whatnot and is mainly a good versus evil story.

Because of how the story and world is built around actual issues than just good versus evil, Ike comes across as a character with some actual depth than just being a goody-two shoes because he confronts these actual real-life issues that most stories would mostly use as a one-time deal or hardly mention ever again after dealing with it.
Whereas it's easy to see characters like Marth, Chrom, Corrin, etc, as the type of characters who wouldn't accept these subjects happening, watching Ike grow from a boy who was naive about such real topics he was unfamiliar with into a leader who's friendship with the Greil Mercenaries, the Laguz, Princess Elincia, and various people from nobles, soldiers, commoners, etc around the world allows him to treat and be an equal to all the people he interacts with makes him far more realistic and inspiring than the kind of character that you can expect would not tolerate such issues without a second doubt. And his friendships with Soren and Ranulf are considered some of the best writing in the series.

It also helps that Ike was rather unique at the time, being the first main character who wasn't royalty, with the only other character being Byleth, and heck, even when he had to become a Lord to help Elincia at some point, after the war with Daien, he discarded the title afterwards. Also helps that he's been memed in Japan as a heavy eater, a meat-lover, and a gorilla.

I've been to the social thread a handful of times, but never really stuck around. I'm just more familiar/used to this thread and its inhabitants whereas I don't have as much of a feel for the social thread and the already very well established relationships going on in that thread (granted I was a newbie in this thread a long time ago too so that's maybe not much of an excuse)

Once this thread ends I might give it more of a serious attempt though, we'll see how things go I guess.

First thing shown off, with some reveal trailer, then a tune into Mr. Sakurai Presents later on.

To the mods and other staff, as a past mod, I would seriously consider having a thread to discuss future Smash developments once shop closes up here. It doesn't have to be in this section, feel free to lock it up, but it behooves the other threads to have a place to centralize speculation, otherwise it can appropriate threads that are designed for other topics. Even the social one. It only has to be one thread, but it's a useful outlet and a worthwhile partition.

That's what happened before the Smash 4 section was created, and that's what happened in the interim between 4 and the creation of this section (it was a user group, which no longer exist here, but there was still a hub dedicated to future games). As long as I've been here, there's always been a dedicated place to speculate on the future of Smash.
