Now, if you want weirder ones, we have more than one Malon and Talon in the series. Like, three different ones. At least Marin and Tarin are explained as being dream characters. Just how many legacy characters can exist? XD Malon and Talon don't have a reincarnation factor like Link, Zelda, and Ganon/dorf do.
And Beedle too!
Every character that appears in other games in the series holds the same roles as they started out with just like Link, Zelda, and Ganon(dorf):
  • Impa is always Zelda's Sheikiah attendant.
  • Beedle is always a merchant.
  • Tingle is always...Tingle. I believe he's always a means for Link to get maps.
  • The Mailman is always a mailman that runs letters to people.
It's pretty interesting.

Color me surprised if King Boo is the last character but I do appreciate seeing him constantly pop up in discussion (albeit typically when talking about missing LM3 spirits), a fresh face in speculation. Keep this up and he'll be up there with big support next Smash game. What helps is Luigi's Mansion growing bigger and bigger too.
That's what I'm aiming for! I do genuinely like King Boo, and it's nice to talk about characters that no one else seems to really take notice of.

Skull Kid can be explained as a species too. Same with other monsters.

Also, many species evolve or die out or something anyway, like the Kokiri to Korok, Gorons barely survived, and Zora evolved into Rito, at least during the WW storyline. Which makes BOTW funnier(though it has no official timeline placement) since it has both Zora and Rito, respectively.

But yeah, there's quite a few recurring characters without an explanation. Impa is a time traveler, which justifies her being anywhere(her body changes to fit the time, apparently, too. So it's not like she's always able to fight the same way, or fight at all). Tingle also appears in multiple timelines, which gets awkward. Same with his brothers. MM doesn't matter cause it's a different dimension, but WW has no ties to Four Swords at all. They're different timelines as is. Maybe he's an ageless being? He is from a different land(his origin story of Rosey Rupeeeland and all).
I'm like 99.999999% sure that Impa is a different person every time.

We already see old Impa in Skyward Sword due to her time traveling, and there's nothing to imply that she's the same character across all games.

Especially the fat one.

I always find it really funny that while so many of the Zelda characters generally keep their general appearance and traits more or less from title to title, MOBLINS are like out there.

A Moblin is either:

A really fat monster, may or may not throw a burning lantern at you or might just stab you

A super buff beefcake thing that goes "AWWWWWWGHHHHHHH" and runs you through with a spear down a very particular set of hallways that only appear in one area of the whole game

A very common monster found throughout the game not just at one area

A noodle-nosed lanky tall thing that is one of the harder things to beat

Like if someone were to say "I want a Moblin in Smash", the next question would be "The fat guy, the beefcake, the lanky guy, or the guy with the lantern?"

On a similar note:

The Legend of Zelda series: Darknuts are mysterious figures in armour.
The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker: Dog.

My take on the Zelda series is that we don't actually play through the real events of the story, we play through an idealized recreation of the legend, based on the tales of it which are preserved by word of mouth, ages after the actual events happend.
This is why some stuff is inconsistent and the design of some characters is different from game to game even when they are supposed to be the same person.

This was my take, Nintendo's take is probably that they just don't care of continuity and consistency.

Wow... That's actually a really interesting way of looking at it. I'm genuinely impressed.

Me I usually boiled it down to graphical limitations at the time of game design but since the Era of GameCube this has held less water imo (ah ha).... I'll say this much, the darknuts in Twilight Princess is probably my favorite enemy of all zelda games and their design was incredible.

not gonna lie I’ve always found it weird that Luigi never showed up on the heroes vs villains art during banjo and k rool’s trailers. I’d have thought he’d have shown up fighting bowser with Mario.

Could they potentially do the heroes vs villains theme again for king boo and it’s why Luigi’s missing👀👀

Would be cool if they did

If I was making my favorite game ... "Kirby" specialized for beginners would not have been made.

It's a popular time for horror stuff to occur, like scary stories and whatnot. That's also when Obon is, which is a Buddhist festival where "The boundaries between the living and dead are at their lowest", not unlike Halloween.
Gotcha. Maybe I am just more used to it, but I still think Fall is a better time for scary stuff. Oh well. Different countries, different points of view.

I think Summer’s perfect for spooky stuff because then you can be outside and have your cause of death be anything else than hypothermia

So basically, somewhat similar to Ys where the games are retellings of Adol's adventures through the journals he wrote before vanishing?

I swear, the more times I see people suggest they make that a reoccuring theme despite it clearly not being intended as such the less cool K.Rool's CG trailer gets in hindsight. Unless of course you suggest they put Banjo as the villain

If it's not Smash Bros., I'd certainly want to see what kind of game Sakurai's favorite game would be.

I find it funny that there's very few characters FP11 could be that would be more hype than this finally being over. I have modding to do, dammit.
Yeah, I was waiting for all the DLC to be released before I tried using mods. I'm really excited to try it out in Ultimate. There are already a ton of great mods out there and it will only keep getting better. I am a little worried I won't be able to figure it out properly since I'm a bit bad with technical knowledge like that.

I mean, fair. We just don't know what's going on since they don't specify. Either way, I want fat Impa in Smash, yeah.

  • Impa is always Zelda's Sheikiah attendant.

  • The Mailman is always a mailman that runs letters to people.
It's pretty interesting.
Tingle actually goes after Force Gems in the Four Swords(named) games, so almost the same.

Mailman my guess is more of a case of "always someone taking up the mantle, cause, you know, mail." So just a common idea that somebody needs to deliver the mail.

I always find it really funny that while so many of the Zelda characters generally keep their general appearance and traits more or less from title to title, MOBLINS are like out there.

Interesting thing; Ganon was based loosely on Pigsy from Journey From The West. That's why the Moblins can sometimes be bulldogs or pigs. They're the same origin design. Ganon was also intended to be vampiric, which explains the Silver Arrows weakness.

I think I remember reading a long ways back that Sakurai especially liked rail shooters and shmups. May explain Uprising and why there was often a short shmup part in Kirby games. And let's just say some of the games in those genres are not easy.

I guess that's why Simon and Richter were announced in August rather than October.

Although they still had Halloween events for Fire Emblem Heroes. 🤔
Halloween and Christmas are still celebrated, but they're a lot lower-key.

Like, to us, Christmas is a HUGE deal, but for Japan, that HUGE DEAL day is New Years.

I'd only ever like to see the K. Rool trailer format reused if it were for Dixie Kong. Would be a funny bookend to this game and all the 90s Rareware love it had.
Idk, I'd like to think Rare fans would want more than the exact same joke 3 times and as someone who isn't a Rare fan but wouldn't mind Dixie, I'd much rather have Dixie have a trailer in which she stands out on her own and not needing to copy the same gag

I've never played the Ys games but I think it's kinda like this, but Zelda is a legend, the word of mouth might have altered the story and some parts of it might have not happend the same way as the legend says; there might be differences depending on the region where the story was spread to... so it's normal that some parts of it are inconsistent.

Think of, stuff like the Japanese legend of Momotaro (I can't think of any better example), the legend is one but there are several different versions of it; in some of those stories, the way how Momotaro was born is different, some say it came out from a giant peach, other say that he was found inside a red box, and there are many more differences between versions.

Well, we are at the start of this week. I can only hope for the best and that the direct comes this week
Would be the best case scenario.

As far as I know, Nintendo has literally nothing planned for this week

And there's no game shows they're trying to avoid overlap with

So this week does seem likely, but I can't shake next for some reason.

Come on Nintendo, don’t fail me now. I just want curious village on the switch so I’m putting my faith in a random 4chan leak that appeared a month ago out of nowhere and looked legit enough to be real, to be true

I repeat Nintendo, don’t Fail me now (it probably will). Is it too much to ask for CV on the switch.

Please tell me this is trolling?
TBH I've seen some people suggest Paya all of a sudden and would also rather fat Impa in smash. Schooling people as a psychic old lady would be pretty fun lol with her BoTW design.

Changing the subject, but where did Paya discussion start? She's a random NPC in BoTW who doesn't do anything aside from help you unlock like one shrine. They'd literally go with someone like Impa at that point. IDK, I've seen people suggest her and it's just bizarre since she isn't even particularly memorable or even well known so even seeing one person legitimately suggest her for smash is just weird. As an NPC, she breaks the mold a little but she's still a very minor character in BoTW either way.
