Oh my god Dread looks so good
I just got Fusion earlier today after beating Super earlier this week so I'll be ready for this game when it comes out

I haven’t played much Metroid but I think I’m going to give Dread a try. It is looking really cool. I would be happy with either E.M.M.I. or the Chozo general as the final Smash character. We have been doing great with villains so far this game but we could definitely use a lot more.

I'm not ready to hop on the Chozo General train just yet, and I definitely don't think he'll be the final character, but he does look cool and I could potentially change my mind.

i like how we started Ultimate DLC thinking Sylux had a chance and we're ending it thinking Chozo General has a chance.
Honestly, I will never understand the hype over a character who barely appeared in their home series but might be important in a future entry that's probably still years away from release.

I always though Sylux was a little boring looking visually. He’s still pretty cool but just comes off as a lesser Samus. E.M.M.I. and the Chozo General both have much more interesting designs in my opinion. I have no idea what Sylux’s abilities are so may have still been a really interesting character based on that.

New Metroid Dread trailer

Thumbnail looks so ****ing sick. And the video has some revealing cutscenes for anyone who wants to go blind when it comes to the story.

The mobility here looks crazy, and the variety of environments and enemies is definitely notable, at least compared to Samus Returns.
That Airdash looks like so much fun. Thats the first of its kind for Metroid I think.

If Chozo general becomes a recurring character in the series outside this game, I am fully down for him in Smash, he’s got a great design.

More important though. KRAID IS BACK! Took him long enough. Nice to see him finally get some Spotlight. Since this proves for certain some of the Space Pirates survived the events of Super Metroid, its possible others like Phantoon did as well, the only confirmed deaths are Ridley and Mother Brain. Speaking of Ridley, he still hasn’t been seen yet. He might skip out this game unless I was somehow right about the Robot consciousness theory.

If Kraid can somehow get himself off that planet, Ridley has to have as well.
Yeah that's a new mechanic in the series.

About the Chozo, he probably will appear in at least one more game. Sakamoto already said this game was going to close the current arc, which is about metroids and all of that, but that at the same time this game would give us a glimpse of what we could expect for the future of the series story wise. So I assume the Chozo General will play an important part on this and survive, becoming the new main villain, at least for a while.

I just hope they don’t spoil too much of this game with the preview trailers. I remember those killing a lot of the enjoyment of playing Sun and Moon since nearly every Pokémon was revealed before it came out.

That's Smash speculation for ya. Sylux was/is the latest Metroid character hinted to be somewhat important within the series (?). Whatever character gets a larger role in Dread is next in line to get support, be it this Chozo general or someone else. Come Metroid Prime 4, people will back up whoever turns out significant in that one.

The Chozo General looks frickin' awesome. Really like the similarities that show between him and Samus in the fight, since Samus' Power Suit was made by the Chozo. Also, the fight against the Chozo soldiers look cool as well.

And OMG, Kraid is possibly back. Really curious to know if it's actually him or not, since...you know...X-Parasites, cloning technology and whatnot.

So this is something I just thought of the other day but how many of your favorite games are in Smash?

Looking at my top 27 favorite games, the ones that are in Smash are Super Castlevania 4, Metal Gear Solid, Minecraft, and Xenoblade 2.
If Melee counts* that game's... kinda in Smash? I'm willing to say yes because Ultimate is its current successor.

Otherwise, the ones that are in Smash... not that many. F-Zero GX and Ring Fit's up there (NPC role for the latter, but still). I also tend to really enjoy lots of jank in games, which is one reason I enjoy Super Mario 64, SotN and OoT the most out of the represented franchises.

Most of my personal top games aren't in, but that's okay. I mean, a lot of my personal top games have not touched Nintendo consoles as of yet (Dota 2 is a primary example, even if the genre it helped create just recently arrived on the Switch).

Still, I'm good with the game we got, and other favorite games getting in would just be cherry on top.

*(I'd rank it above Ultimate, although if only due to nostalgia, gameplay preferences trending towards fast paced interactive extensions, and the fact that that game still lives on and is still being explored warms my heart.)

The Chozo General seems to be competent and threatens to blast Samus to kingdom come without hesitating?

I like the guy, sign me up for his support thread.

If it was a X-parasite, X-Kraid could just morph its appearance to get out of the chains. It's 100% Kraid or at least a member of Kraid's species.

Hence why I mentioned cloning technology, since Ridley got cloned and his clone's body was the Ridley in Fusion.

The thing is, from what I've seen people mostly wanted him because "muh reps". But now we literally have more Metroid reps than at least I thought we'll ever get, so what's the point?

Ever since we've witnessed fighters which some consider as "shill picks" get in, there's always going to be a crowd who bring up new characters from latest games if they have even the smallest of followings. Not necessarily full-on support for Smash (unless they become extremely popular) but brought up in speculation anyway.

Personally, I find the Metroid fighters we have now to be quite a complete package. It'll be interesting to see if any character from the upcoming games does gain attention though.

Fire Emblem's cast changes almost every game. Each non-echo Fire Emblem character comes from a different game.
Metroid always has the same protagonist who takes up two unique slots on the roster, and the two biggest villains are there too, so it's far from undereped in the character department. Sylux is not comparable to Byleth.

Sylux came from a time where Ridley was at its lowest point and Metroid was primed to have its reps be simply “Three Samuses”. Sylux isn’t that big in the grand scheme of things but he served his purpose well as a “non-Ridley non-Dark Samus recurring character with proportions suited for a playable character in the Metroid series”. With Ultimate coming out sooner than people thought and Metroid Prime 4 coming…a bit later, I don’t see a reason to have Sylux now, but that doesn’t mean he never had a decent deck of cards in hand

Yeah, I know and understand the history behind Sylux's popularity (even if I personally think it's fallacious), I just don't see the point for him now.

Oh yeah, but I’d say that fans wanting to see more content of their favorite series in Smash doesn’t have to be the same as a “muh reps”, which I usually associate with number crunching of a series “deserving” x amount of reps based on y amount of sales and z amount of games.

Yeah, I get that. But I also don't get the hype over a character we barely know anything about.

To be fair, I’m guilty about this myself. There are a few characters I’d love to see in Smash just because they look cool and could be fun to play as. One example for me is Medusa. I’ve barely played any of Kid Icarus but her Uprising design is so cool that she became someone who I was hoping for in Smash.

Going off topic for a second, but I've been thinking...
People have been talking a lot about how some characters only have a chance next Smash, but unless the next Smash game is a port or a reboot that focuses on giving old characters new movesets, I don't think I'd be interested in it. Sakurai said we'll probably never have another Smash game where all the characters come back, so with my favorites having a very real chance of getting cut, I don't know if the next game will even have anything for me.

I just had a weird question pop up in my mind but I kinda like it

What non-video game songs would y'all think fit Smash?
As far as normal bands go, I love Evanessence, Disturbed, and Linkin Park. What I really want is WWE/AEW songs in the Punch Out stage. Pro Wrestling has some amazing music that would be awesome to fight to.

I think this one explains itself

Honorable Mention to any of the Elite Beat Agent covers

Speaking of Linkin Park, the theme for any losers in Smash should be "In The End" by that group. As in, "I tried so hard and got so far, but in the end, it doesn't even matter.".

I don't listen to real music very often. Most of my musical taste is comprised of soundtracks, usually videogame soundtracks at that.
