You are correct. People DID NOT let them get a break over it too. It... was a whole snafu. I still remember that article with the headline "Waluigi Was Robbed" with the image of a Waluigi plush doll laying in a dirty road. People were SALTY.

Of course. I remember that.

I was thinking though, if an Assist from Ultimate were to be upgraded to a playable, and it was Waluigi, they would have taken down the E3 2018 Direct instead, right?

Oh. Ehhh I don't think they'd be taking down any videos over it. I just used Waluigi as an example because... well, IMO, if ANY Assist is gonna get upgraded, it's gonna be him. Cue the NSYNC song.

Yeah, and I was actually just saying.

Whatever the case, though, there has to be a reason why the August 2018 Smash Direct is being taken down. Hopefully, it is a good reason, but I doubt it.

Apart from big ol nothingburgers from Burger King... the only thing I could think of is if there is INDEED a Super Smash Bros "Final Destination Presentation" on Sunday the 8th and they didn't want people mixing up "8 8 2018" with "8 8 2021"... but even that's a bit weird because it's Sunday. BUT HEY... we're in weird times. Who knows?

Good guess, I must say. I do hope that would be true, but I am actually not counting on it to happen. I mean, anything can happen.

Hero's Sakurai Presents was announced (not aired) at night. At least where I'm at, but I'm only an hour and a half past EST.

I'm not sure for the American timezones, but it was for me. I was on holiday in Turkey without my switch (unfortunately, although the WiFi was so bad I wouldn't have been able to update the game anyway).

Anyway, I woke up, and genuinely thought "it would be cool if they announced something about Joker last night, haha", and then looked at my phone. (I then accidentally locked myself on the balcony trying to connect to the WiFi. That's not the point though).

It could be dropped at any time if it is something, as long as the timing makes sense for Japan, I guess. They never care about Europe at least.

On a separate note, I wish Joker got a Presents and Banjo got what Joker got. Partially so Sakurai could talk about Persona, and partially so we could have got a trailer with Bottles explaining the moveset with other characters butting in.

Anyway, I'm staying up a bit late tonight just in case something drops, but I'm not counting on it.

Capcom (Zero, Rathalos)
Konami (Alucard, Grey Fox)

Yacht Club Games (Shovel Knight)

So of those four companies let's see

CAPCOM: Monster Hunter still the best selling 3rd party switch title ... Medium chance of involvement

KONAMI: Aside from all the craziness surrounding Hideo Kojima a while back not much else but a leaker talking about a possibility of a new PS5 Castlevania game and MGS reboot... Low chance of involvement

SEGA: no idea

Yacht Club Games... Yeah no.

So basically I am gonna guess Capcom and Nintendo are into something here .... Hm.

I’m not sure if any of this Direct removal has anything to do with CP11 (I’d be willing to bet not, since we’re barely a month out from Kazuya), but it definitely is a bizarre situation.

I was considering the possibility of an AT being removed for an upgrade because the AT could be removed and Nintendo wants to avoid having outdated or incorrect information, but I considered it kind of a stretch.

That said if that DID happen, I would honestly expect it to be Shovel Knight, since Capcom doesn’t want to represent Monster Hunter with something like a Hunter, and Shovel Knight has everything he’d need for a playable appearance (music, Spirits, stage, potential for a moveset).

Like I said though, I think that idea’s a pretty big stretch.

I really don't think this is true anymore considering the crossover appearances the hunter has made, and even if it is to whatever extent, Rathelos is still there. Adding the hunter isn't going to remove it from the game. Also it's not accounting for any "surprise" picks that aren't either of them, but still make sense somewhat.

The bigger reason why probably not hunter is because it's already a Mii Costume.

At any rate, I just wanna know why this was done. They're made a deliberate effort into removing this one video from everywhere, but why?

If it was a rating thing, they'd have removed Joker's and maybe the Spirits showcase too (because of Metal Gear). If it was a Youtube thing, other videos from the same timeframe would be gone. Music copyright issues seem to be nonexistent too, otherwise you could bet that Simon's trailer and the Monster Hunter-related trailers would be down too.

So... why was this done? I'm admittedly more into it for curiosity than because I think it amounts to a new reveal.

the best way to look at it would be to not put a time stamp on this but to potentially expect within a week or 2 some smash news of some sort. I don’t think if this means anything, it has to come this week on Sunday or before. I feel like it could happen at any point over the next week or 2 as long as it’s in august.

that’s if it means anything though which we’ll never know until September arrives

Okay I've skimmed through the conspiracy theory that came up last night and I am VERY interested, but also confused. Forgive me if this question was asked earlier but does anyone have any inkling of an idea why Nintendo would do this if it is indeed intentional? Like if they're about to reveal some Smash news, what's the purpose of making it harder to find other Smash news from the past? The fact that it's the same exact video being removed on multiple websites tells me it has to be intentional but I cannot for the life of me think of why it's even relevant to do that.
