Official DLC Speculation Discussion Volume II

So lts finally here, E3 Time! Some quick predictions:

1) Smash CP10 (first thing they show, Sakurai presentation 2 days later)
2) Metroid 2D (developed by Mercury Stream, sequel to Fusion) [August 2021]
3) Fire Emblem 4 Remake (made by IS with Koei-Tecmo again, uses 3H Engine) [September 2021]
4) New Donkey Kong (made internally by Nintendo, combines 2D with linear 3D sections like Crash or Mario 3D World, Co-op offine and online) [october 2021]
5) Pokémon will get its own presentation with info on Unite, D/P Remakes and Arceus but we will se something new on E3 direct. It always happens.
7) Splatoon 3, Xenoblade 3 or Mario Kart 9 (just a trailer, only of the three) [2022]
8) Zelda BOTW2 (only info from Zelda series, last thing shown, 3 weeks later we will get a full themed zelda direct) [march 2022]

from third parties
9) No More Heroes 3 (new trailer) [august 2021]
10) Shin Megami Tensei V (full gameplay revealed, sadly it will be delayed) [2022]
11) Ace Attorney 7 [november 2021]
12) New Super Monkey Ball [october 2021]
13) Something from Square-Enix (Neo TWEWY, Triangle Strategy, Dragon Quest, etc)
14) Borderlands 3 [september 2021]
15) more third party stuff that is difficult to guess haha.

That has got me thinking: Since the Battletoads sequel released in 2020 (and thus not under consideration for FP2), how likely do you think that, if the toads are part of Pass 2, their appearances, mannerisms, and movepools will be based on their NES game (possibly including having no voices given to them)?

I rented the first Bubsy game multiple times on the SNES as a kid. It wasn’t a great game but it really grabbed my interest for some reason and I enjoyed it. He’s nowhere near my most wanted character but I would be fine with his inclusion.

As far as the Battletoads go, I hope and think they are based on their classic NES and SNES designs but I don’t mind if they have voices. I think that’s pretty likely too considering how Simon and Mega Man are portrayed.

I mean I'd imagine that being the case, considering that the likes of Mega Man and Simon are all using their older designs. Same thing with fellow Rare character Banjo.

I honestly don’t think the Battletoads are as impossible as most seem to. They were pretty big on the NES and have had a resurgence in recent years. They were also RARE’s first breakout hit and that company has a ton of history with Nintendo.

There’s a big difference than being slept on and being unwanted. I think many people on here fall towards the latter on Gen 8.

The few times I come to this thread and see a Pokemon from Sword & Shield being mentioned, it's more often than not the "slept on" subject that returns, which spirals back into the spirit event, those who believe it means anything or not at all, then we move on to Cacomallow.

If there had been no spirit event, you'd see much, much more talks about a Pokemon character than we currently have.

I would say that, as far as the second pass goes, it's unlikely to happen. All characters who were revealed during the second pass were released two weeks top later. If we get a double reveal at E3, they'd probably release the other character three months later, which would be a first for this pass.
It's not impossible they make an exception, but fairly unlikely. Plus they probably want to drag it on as much as possible.
I'm going with a double reveal because I want it to happen, but deep down I know it'll be one.

Wonder if CP10 will introduce a new IP, especially in the trailer copyright stuff they always show in the end. It'd go next to Mojang AB, ofc.

Speaking of Pokémon and subverting expectations, how would everyone feel if we got Gengar as another Pokémon rep? I have a feeling a lot of people would be disappointed in another Gen 1 rep but I’d personally be really hyped.

I think FP#10 will somewhat appeal to the West. Here is my thoughts on it:

1. Rayman - I am hopeful. There are some rumblings that make me think he has a chance. If he is NOT at E3, he won't be in Smash.
2. Zelda rep - Another likely option and it will be a character themed for BOTW2
3. Ryu Hayabusa - This would be a great pick for both the East and West
4. Lloyd Irving\Kos-Mos\Namco - Another big option
5. Jonsey - Nintendo has been flirting with Fortnite a lot lately
6. Crash - I kind of don't like his chances but he is still an option for FP#10

I think FP#11 will be a MAJOR letdown for most Western Smash fans but will be popular in Japan. There are some options that might work and not be a letdown. I could see Ryu Hayabusa, Zelda rep, Pokemon, or NAMCO rep go here.

I am not very confident in a very popular Western character like Masterchief or Crash making it in. I am more expecting to be letdown than happy about the picks. I definitely have very little hope for FP#11 as all Smash games have ended in a thud (especially in the West).

I do think the speculators are underestimating the chances of a NAMCO and/or Zelda rep being in the last two spots.

I really think we are done with Microsoft reps. We might get some spirits but that is about it. I think Nintendo really wanted Steve and Microsoft offered them Banjo as well. Nintendo jumped on board with Banjo because although he wasn't super popular in Japan, he was an icon for N64 in USA and is primarily known through his Nintendo representation and is therefore kind of a Nintendo character.

I am leaning towards Komei-Tecmo or Ubisoft getting a rep because of their close ties to Nintendo. However, Namco and First-Parties are still out there as well.

The best thing to hope for with Battletoads is a spirit battle. I would love to have a Battletoad character but it is not likely.

Ya know, if we end up getting a BOTW2 character, more likely, if it's CP10, that's a high indication that BOTW2 may in fact be revealed and released this year and that Sakurai has an early copy of the game.

But the Zelda costume for ordering FP2 makes me think otherwise, lol.

I expect BOTW2 to possibly have a Christmas time release. They gave hints about it over a year ago so we know that it has at least 2 years of development already.

I expect most of the Presentation to be Zelda themed. Zelda series will be the star of the show.

Well FP10 and the release window, if not date for BotW2 are both going to be revealed in like two weeks in the same presentation.

It doesnt have to be a character, just music and spirits is fine, but I'm dying for Sakurai to add some Touhou to Smash. Music preferred

For what it's worth, Serkan Toto seems to be implying that BOTW2 may come out next year.

If we got a deluxe Mii outfit for Reimu, what song would you want her to come with? I think that’s the only way we’ve been getting any music without a character with it.

Also wanna mention

If they're gonna hit us with a guessing game such as "This next fighter's from LoL", they should probably let us know a bit before the 15th. If they don't, I'd imagine mass confusion coming from those unfamiliar with the game or character, perhaps.

I could definitely see it, especially if it was given the same release window as BotW and Animal Crossing. Nintendo's been announcing their March titles the prior year for most of the Switch's life at this point.

Consultant / analyst like Zhuge, Serkan's firm Kantan Games (based in Tokyo and heavily invested with analysing Japan specifically) consults Nintendo and other corps just like Zhuge's firm Niko Partners consult corps like Nintendo. In particular, the consults give corps a lot of detailed info (at a pretty damn high cost - the full papers usually cost $1000+ unless they're free) about the situation and how well various games etc. are doing.

Okay first of all, Mario is way too irrelevant to be considered by Nintendo even as a low priority pick. Second, there's no echo fighters this pass, so no Luigi.
Mario is NEVER EVER gonna be in Smash.
