Before we bust out the deconfirmation train, I'd like to say that this is 99% responded to by an intern or PR person who's as in the dark about Smash as we are. The letter in question is basically just a "We appreciate your enthusiasm!"

I think the premise still applies. "Holds their weapon different" is not enough to disqualify literal clones from becoming alts.
You just had to ruin the fun and good in that, did you?
Without getting into wacky Kingdom Hearts bull**** there are more superficial things like Vanitas just looks like Sora and isn't actually a clone of Sora and Vanitas' use of the X-blade and unique abilities and magic etc. etc.
I agree, both X and Zero are awesome and would be a ton of fun in Smash. I actually prefer X to classic Mega Man but it makes sense they went with the original. I think the only character I like more than Zero is Pharaoh Man but a random robot master basically has no chance to get in.
If we need a Hero situation, we should probably stick with Roxas and maybe Xion. Roxas is a part of Sora, Xion is a clone of Roxas. It's closer than Ventus, who had to hang out in Sora's Heart for a while, and Vanitas, who's the dark side of Ventus.
Technically Xion is a clone of Sora but your pretty much spot on for everything else.
Ventus and Sora, mostly, they are both Cheerful Shonen Boys, They have their differences but they are mostly when it comes to their interactions with characters.
...Close enough, Sora is Sora
Ventus and Sora seem fairly similar. Vanitas, on the other hand, is the edgy evil dude and is nothing like them.
Congratulations, you've digested about 60% of the plot.
Then in my opinion Vanitas wouldn't really make sense as an alternate costume since it would require changing his persona.
To be fair, I did beat half of Chain of Memories and a bit of 358/2 Days but I never completed either so I didn’t count them. I did watch a play through of Chain of Memories afterwards. I also got to the final boss of the third path in Birth by Sleep but I could never win so I eventually just gave up.
I think the reason Sora ended up looking like Ventus is because the former, after he was born, helped heal Ventus's fractured heart (as seen in the intro to Birth By Sleep).
With all these jokes about how complicated the story of Kingdom Hearts is, the funny thing is that the guy who wrote most of those plots also wrote the Subspace Emissary.....No, they've seen 60% of the plot.
Digesting it is a whole 'nother beast.

Maybe Sora can do that as part of his Final Smash?
I dunno about that. What's so special about Eggmanland? It's one in a long line of Eggman stages, and it only appeared in Unleashed.
Question: Would the gambling theme be a possible roadblock for that stage?
It's a supervillain theme park, what's not to love?
Hasn't been an issue for Sonic games. And those are usually rated lower than Smash.
Through a good chunk of the series actually building Eggmanland was kinda his main goal. So thats where its important.
Wouldnt that fit better for Shadow?
