Balan looks like one of those games where there is quite a lot of creativity... but hoo boy is that misplaced and misused when it comes to the gameplay.

Or give you the best move in casual Smash - akin to Kirby's Stone - whenever it feels like it that is:

There was a problem fetching the tweet

Bruh what do you think I was referencing?

Actually, now that I think about it, a character who can just disable certain attacks sounds ****ing wild and I want to see that, Rohan has that in the Jojo fighters so it can and has worked. Sounds painful to fight against if the character doesn't have mediocre stats and moves though.

I think it's particularly sad because I just loved the character designs from day one and now that it's out, we know that the soundtrack is full of bangers.

Problem is... it looks like all the budget went into that instead of the gameplay.
Maybe the gameplay will eventually be polished like No Man’s Sky?

Most of the issues I've seen people have in terms of gameplay are about the game's core design, Balan doesn't have infinite potential worlds but the typical areas specifically designed in a certain way like every other platformer, so that's not gonna happen. Fixing the button layout would improve the game by a lot from what I hear though

@Idon There's a new SMT 3 remaster trailer
Weirdly, this trailer was briefly available on the game's steam page before being taken down. I was hoping it would show up in a direct, but I guess that isn't happening now...

(Also, it is a bit suspicious that we haven't got an event on the same week some people thought there might be Switch online news. It's a stretch, but they could be related.)

I'm going back and forth about whether or not we'll see one of the lesser talked about patterns/fan rules broken.

Capcom (Mega Man, Ryu, Ken), Konami (Snake, Richter, Simon), Square Enix (Cloud, Hero, Sephiroth), and Sega (Sonic, Bayonetta, Joker) have had three fighters. With two slots left, do we see any of them get a fourth?
I'm of the opinion that they won't simply because it'd look like favouritism from Nintendo. If we get another third-party Japanese representative, I'm guessing Lloyd from Tales of Symphonia or Ryu Hayabusa from Ninja Gaiden. Lloyd's Mii Costume is missing which is suspect whilst Koei Tecmo has been collaborating with Nintendo for Hyrule Warriors and Fire Emblem so Nintendo could give Koei Tecmo thanks by adding a character from their stable of IP.

Is there a fighter out there in video games where it creates a doll for the opponent then damage it such as using needles causing the opponent to get damaged as well?
I haven’t seen any smash discussion about this type of character.
Well, there's Puppet Master from Heroes of Newerth. And HoN is basically a lock at this point :4pacman:

Personally I don’t think Nintendo gives a crap about that. If they did, every company would have an equal amount of characters. Fighters will get in on their own merits and I’m sure all Nintendo’s partners understand that and would be happy to have anything.

I mean, let alone the fact that Capcom and Konami have two original characters and a clone. I don’t think it’s fair to lump them in on that even if I did believe there was some sort of fairness or balance Nintendo cared about maintaining.

(Late edit: They could've taken Box Fox and reworked it a bit to have some interesting quirks, such as creating small AoE tremors or what not. The intent is there, but as said above, it really was misplaced and the results look way too slow / random to be interesting as a platformer.)
They actually adjusted Box Fox a bit in the full release; it still activates automatically, but you can make it stop sliding by holding back on the control stick, so you’re not likely to slide off cliffs.
To fully control its movement, you’ll need a second controller. The co-op has a feature where the two characters can attach to each other, so you can move with P2’s control stick while P1 is a box and bludgeon enemies with them.

we have 3 links and 2 marios and half the fire emblem cast
That doesn't mean they're going to keep adding Animal Crossing characters for the sake of adding Animal Crossing characters. Villager and Isabelle are good enough regardless of its popularity.

disables Min Min's Punch

haha got'em gg's

Indeedee

I'll show myself out.

He's still a Loony Toons character (as this is a Loony Toons game) though so he's as ineligible as Android 21.

Everything's better with multiplayer!

they were all added because they're easy clones

besides, constantly adding random AC villagers makes little sense
I think the highest number of Animal Crossing characters you could have at the moment is 5:
  • Villager-The one in Super Smash Bros.
  • Resident-Echo Fighter of the Villager that consists of some of the possible town residents.
  • Isabelle-The one in Super Smash Bros. (but hopefully more cohesive in the future).
  • Tom Nook-A character not derived from the Villager moveset that has some mechanic involving Bells & his wares.
  • K. K. Slider-A character not derived from the Villager moveset that focuses on music.
Everyone else I think isn't quite important enough to add (or in the case of Kapp'n, just doesn't do enough to make a moveset yet considering his Assist Trophy already includes everything he does).

EDIT: Might be able to add the Able Sisters, and Tortimer if you're creative enough.

only 5 animal crossing characters? mark my words animal crossing will become the most overrepresented franchise in smash one day, it makes to much money not too.
Honestly I can't really imagine Animal Crossing going beyond Tom Nook. As already stated, Animal Crossing doesn't have the same ripe moveset potential or ease of implementation as Mario, Pokemon or Fire Emblem. Three variants on the same basic character archetype is probably enough, I'd really like to see them distinguish Isabelle more in the future though and Tom Nook can use tanooki abilities and stuff.

I imagine Tom Nook can have a largely unique moveset but may maintain some similarities with Villager and Isabelle's specials, like I think they may all have some form of Pocket for example. So I see them kinda like the Star Fox cast - Isabelle is Falco, Tom Nook is Wolf.

I'm pretty confident Tom Nook will be in the next game, but beyond that you have like... KK Slider, who is much better off as a Saturdays-only stage cameo since it represents his role in AC nigh perfectly. In general we're probably better off seeing the AC cast continue to take nonplayable roles such as ATs and stage roles. Bring back Resetti please.

honestly my most wanted Animal Crossing character is Mr. Resseti, he's one of the more memorable characters and he seems like he could have one of the most interesting movesets of the Animal Crossing cast

okay nook and kk slider have to get in though, that's like not letting zelda have ganondorf as a character

but most of the important ones aren't random villagers?

that argument has the same feel as hat goomba.

To be fair, I think playing as a character that continually drives around in a bus would make for a fun moveset. Like Excitebiker but with an entire bus.
