Overswarm how is the Wii U treating you so far? I'm picking mine up tomorrow and I'm pretty damn excited about it. Apart from Nintendo Land I'm probably going to pick up NSMB:U as well.
It is by far my favorite launch console to date. I waited 22 and a half hours for a Wii and had a blast with Wii Sports and playing it with my family and friends and lots of kids at events, and I did a similar camp out for the Wii U to get one on launch day despite not being too excited by any of the launch titles.

I wanted the NSMBrothers U even though I know it's not a "skill" mario game but more of a fun party game because it's something I can just turn on and laugh with friends about or make little kids play.

I hadn't heard much about Nintendoland.

Was interested in ZombieU but afraid of it being the next Red Steel, so didn't get it; have only heard good things from those who have played the game and they've listed it as a "solid launch title, but not one that will become a launch classic; likely to set up for a better sequel".

Wanted Ninja Gaiden III since I loved the first one so much (II was too easy).

Got a Delux with Nintendoland, Mario Bros, and Ninja Gaiden III.

In the first 5 days of owning a Wii U, we played a collective 49 hours. That's a bit over 2 days of nonstop playing. Since of those 5 days an average of 40 hours of sleep occurred out of the total 120 hours, of all our waking hours we spent 61.25% of our time playing the Wii U.

Wii Sports was a video game for people that didn't play video games.

Nintendoland is for gamers who want to be introduced to the console. I have had a ton of fun with Nintendoland and it has enough games to where you'll realize after days of playing that you've neglected some of the single player games. It'd definitely get boring if you have no one to compete with or play with, but the game is designed for multiple players.

It is family friendly as many of the games are simple, but it also has some really deep games like Metroid Blast, Donkey Kong's barrel race, and Mario Chase (way deeper than it seems at first glance). None of the games are particularly similar to one another (although the Pikmin game sucks) and it is pretty swell in general.

Super Mario Bros U was exactly what I expected (I had maxed out the lives prior to the first castle, to put it in perspective) and the Wii U contribution isn't for us, it's for parents with kids. Want to save them from dying or help them up? Give them a block.

At my house we play on "hard mode", where we let one guy be an ******* with the controller. His only rule is that he can't block us from proceeding (no spamming blocks to fill the only passageway), other than that he can try to kill us by placing blocks. THAT made it fun. Playing it like its sonic and running to try to kill your friends is fun too. Just don't expect to play it for more than an hour at a time and when it gets dull, stop and play something else.

Ninja Gaiden III was a lot of fun. Not as hard as the original Ninja Gaiden in the slightest, unfortunately, but hard enough to where I died a lot. Many of the battles have a dull quality to them, but the Master mode seems to have fixed that from what I've seen and they introduce new enemies and enemy combinations enough to where it didn't stay dull for too long.

The scarabs aren't stupid hard to find but aren't stupid easy either, and they unlock new weapons quickly rather than forcing you to look for them. So if you want additional challenge, you can always use a different weapon and have to relearn patterns.

Many people complain the combat is repetitive or a "button masher", but these are the people that simply mash "heavy attack" over and over again until they win or die, and they think dying 90 times and then winning once makes it a legit strategy. You can absolutely play through this game without dying once if you're good and know how to do different attacks well. If you don't just charge up your ultimate technique attack every fight and hope you get it off without dying and get confused why you sometimes win and sometimes lose, you won't have a problem with the combat.

The Wii U Pro controller is what I used for the game, but the Wii U pad has a command list of all the attacks at all times which is pretty handy for learning combos and moves.

The e shop leaves something to be desired as the virtual console shop is a separate entity and the wii menu is a separate entity. I'd really like it to NOT be that, but I guess it was easier for them to just emulate the Wii. The new e-shop has new titles for download. Nintendo has always been very good about downloadable content and this IS the way things are going, so hedge your bets. Do you want to buy a physical copy so you can have a physical copy in case your Wii U breaks? Or do you want a digital copy so you can transfer it over to the next system?

Online play is non-existent in the titles I've played. Ninja Gaiden has some crappy multiplayer deathmatch stuff, but it's just kinda tacked on. Not too many people play NG for the multiplayer, so you don't see many people online for it. I don't know the numbers for other games.

Long story short, buy it. It's good.

How did you first get into DGames?
I had played mafia before, and my friend Jason Rice (M3D) talked to me on IM about how I'd be good at forum mafia. Something about me being logical and manipulative. He said he was modding a game and he'd put me in. I joined in, researched all I could and compared it to what I knew from IRL, and then joined this game:

http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=267760

I rolled Mafia with KevinM and Chill. Chill was completely inactive so we said "**** that" and bussed him immediately. KevinM was treated like I'm treated now in games: automatic scum. He claimed Miller almost immediately. I claimed to be an innocent newbie that didn't know what was going on and posted a lot of walls. I won.

This was my victory post:

How I beat all of you

Fair is fair.

^Play this while you read.^

First off, the luck and lack thereof:

Lucky stuff:
Hilt dying. This gave me two kills. I knew Yeroc had just posted a different picture of Tatsu and wasn’t Tokka; he had not been acting in line with Hilt all game in any way. All I had to do was start the wagon and only two more votes were needed, since tHe-Man never lost an excuse to hammer. It was incredibly handy that the Tokka picture fit so well with the Rahzar picture (and looking now, actually was the picture).

KirbyYoshi being inactive (kinda). KirbyYo being inactive at first was troublesome for me. I was planning on using KirbyYo as a stepping stool to get a double lynch, pinning it as “either KirbyYoshi or (person gunning for him) is mafia” and then getting two night kills and two free lynches from it. I’d already set this up with Yeroc and tHe-Man. In addition to all this… KirbyYo kept mentioning that I was scum from the beginning! Would have been dangerous to have him around.

Unlucky stuff:

Mafia partners being Chill and KevinM.

Chill was inactive from the start and his power would have been insanely useful, especially late game. I voted to kill him off when I got the chance, still playing my “newbie” card. I was expecting someone to comment on this near the end of the game, but no one really did, so I gained nothing from it that I know of.

KevinM wasn’t bad at all, but he was a prime suspect for a lot of players which made him dangerous. It was dangerous to talk to him, dangerous to defend him, dangerous to attack him, dangerous to ignore him. Anything you did in excess was a pretty big deal if it was associated with him. The guy is like a lynch bug light. I tried to play my votes safely and defend everyone without solid evidence and just treated him as I would if we were both town and hoped for the best. My “defense” of him later caught the eye of Hilt, and Hilt probably would have gotten me killed if he stayed alive. I was intending on playing it more as an aggression against tHe-Man’s super aggression, but the timing of KevinM’s death was… unfortunate for that.

KevinM being killed by Dastrn (kinda). This was supposed to happen, but not at that time. Originally the plan was to switch actions between KevinM and tHe-Man (which would have meant Dastrn would have killed tHe-Man), and this would have set up for more double kills in our favor if I kept switching actions from KevinM. This would have cemented Mayling’s tracker claim, so maybe this was lucky. KevinM wasn’t online much when I was, and I was away from my PC all that Night save for the beginning of it. I sent my actions to M3D before leaving on a plane for the weekend and was unable to discuss it with KevinM further.
Specific Actions and Strategy

I basically came in wanting to play the newbie card so I could survive to mid-game and by that time attach myself to someone that struck everyone as town as well as an obvious town that was going to get himself killed. My choices were Gheb and Yeroc by mid-game. Read through a bit with that in mind and my posts become decidedly more hilarious. The plan was to protect Yeroc as much as possible and, inevitably, see him killed. I would be considered linked with him in some way and “the next lynch” if Yeroc was mafia, and then Yeroc would turn up town and I’d be clear for another day. tHe-Man chose himself as a foil for this, making him a strong play if Yeroc showed up town. Taking Gheb as my buddy all game made it pretty easy to avoid getting into trouble, since Gheb’s opinion was pretty respected all game. I was ecstatic when he was cleared.

First Night, I wanted to kill Iggy. He was my choice because he was a lurker, but not inactive; knowing Iggy this was either him being a game-changing poster that would have no problem steering a conversation in one direction or another or he would have a power role added to that. KevinM suggested we kill McFox because he was simply a good mafia player; I agreed as I didn’t know any of the players’ styles here (and KevinM got the final call as Leo anyway).

Why I killed tHe-Man:

tHe-Man was a wild card that could be easily manipulated, but not controlled. I knew all he needed was a target and he’d take the path of least resistance; all game he’d say “This guy this guy this guy…. And possibly this guy as well” and then switch to straight up attacking whoever was a more likely lynch. Path of least resistance type of play. Problem with that is, as the game dwindles it would inevitably turn into a stand-off between tHe-Man and myself. The moment that became apparent, I had to kill him. I had been setting up for a KirbyYo lynch due to inactivity in as many posts as I could so it’d give an opportunity for someone to mess up during the day we lynch KirbyYo. If I hadn’t killed tHe-Man, I would have died within two days easily.

What happened with Mayling:

I honestly wasn’t suspecting her claim. If she had left out the “princess” part, I would have been sunk. Ditto with KirbyYoshi not being inactive; I thought he was Tokka, Scamp was controlling votes, and Gheb was the nurse.
Unfortunately for Mayling, she said too much and allowed me to send walls and walls of text, turning it into a stand-off. Her claim of “princess” made this much easier; I was basically stalling time for a modkill. KirbyYoshi hadn’t been posting but HAD been active on his account, so I was just waiting for him to die so I’d get a free kill. I made one slip the entire game, and that happened to be me saying “we don’t have much time” to Mayling. Luckily, the end of the night was just a week ahead of when I said it was and there wasn’t much time from a night kill!

What I had planned on doing:

I had planned on killing Scamp by switching results between him and Gheb and targeting the Night kill on Gheb. I figured Scamp was switching votes (meaning he had two votes). This actually would have worked, since apparently Gheb couldn’t vote. I was unaware of this since he broke the rules and voted for me. GRRR! >:[
That would have resulted in another easy night kill. So… even if Mayling hadn’t claimed princess I still would have won, but I could have made a mistake and changed my mind and killed Gheb instead (I did think he was the medic, after all).

I hope you all read into this an insane amount so I can switch it up in future games to mess with you all.

Yeah, that started with my first game. :D

Gheb even said that I played well and the last game I played with him he modkilled himself because he said I was playing poorly before I won that game too, so perception of me has changed some.

How did you guys arrive on the DGames scene?
Played mafia once years and years ago on that one heathen weeaboo site. Completely forgot about it for like 3 years or so.

Moved around sites, eventually ended up on AiB.

Sprite/Vult Redux shows up on AiB, opens a game called "Werewolf" and starts a sign-up list. I ignored it for the entirety of its sign-ups and check it after the game had just started. Memory suddenly jogged by the actions, I messaged him telling him I wanted to join the game. Luckily for me, someone just replaced out so I joined the game Day 2 and never looked back. Helped build that game up from the ground up on that site.

Eventually it started to die. Drew messages me on Skype or calls me or something and starts venting to me about this mafia game he's in. I ask him where he's playing and he tells me (also told me Stew was here as well). I show up here, look around, replaced into RE4 and joined the first large and small available.

RE4 sucks big fat donkey nuts because Chibo is a ****head. I joined Pizza and another game and had a grand ****ing time and have been here ever since.

Awesome, I got it this morning but haven't had much of a chance to play (the system update took around 3 hours to download and install :(). And then we had a black out for the past 2 hours. Played NSMB for about an hour and yeah it looks great, I just have to tee up some people to play with me, because I know the multiplayer is ridiculously fun (playing the Wii version multiplayer with my non-gaming family was hilarious). I figured Nintendo Land was more geared to multiplayer games, so I'll give that a go when I have some people to play with :b:

I also happened to read back into bioware mafia yesterday and you played good too. When you have a PR you usually know how to make use of it but I think you're trying too hard to latch onto mechanics / numbers when you're vanilla. I'm also more annoyed by how easily people are inclined to listen to you, no matter how dumb the things you say are than by your actual play.

BiM Deluxe - Christmas Blow-up

As some of you know, I am going to host a BiM game sometime soon. Raz allowed me to host it as a private game but unfortunately not a lot of people decided to reply to the invitation PMs I have sent them so I had to change plans and will do the sign-ups in public now - all the people that confirmed themselves as interested via PM are pre-in now though so those people do not have to confirm their interest again.

The set-up is semi-open:

[collapse="Set-up"]Town aligned Roles:

Sent out 5-9 times:
Welcome to BiM Deluxe Edition - Christmas Blow-up, XXX. You are a Vanilla Townie.

You possess the ability to day kill any player except yourself at any time during a Day Phase by posting Daykill: [player] in any of your posts. That person will be removed from the game as a casualty and the game will proceed to Night Phase. You may use this ability as many times as you'd like throughout the game, however, for every person you have daykilled in the game, you will be subject to a 24 hour cooldown period at the start of each in-game day, during which you will be unable to daykill anyone.

You win when the mafia has been completely eliminated.
Sent out 1-3 times:
Welcome to BiM Deluxe Edition - Christmas Blow-up, XXX. You are a Town Cop

You possess the ability to investigate one player per Night Phase and learn their alignment. You do not possess the ability to carry out any Daykills.
Here is a quick overview of what result you will get from investigating a player:

Vanilla Townie - "Innocent"
Town Blacksmith - "Innocent"
Town Cop - "Innocent"
Town Bomb - "Innocent"
Mafia Godfather - "Innocent"
Mafia Goon - "Guilty"
Mafia Assassin - "Guilty"
Uninformed Town Miller - "Guilty"

You win when the town has completely eliminated the mafia.
Sent out 1-3 times:
Welcome to BiM Deluxe Edition - Christmas Blow-up, XXX. You are a Town Bomb

The mafia strapped some explosive devices to your body while you slept at some point. These devices are well hidden under your clothes and are VERY sensitive. If you are daykilled, you will cause an explosion that will randomly kill one other town aligned player who is NOT also a bomb. This will not happen if you are nightkilled.

You win when the town has completely eliminated the mafia.
Sent out 0-2 times:
Welcome to BiM Deluxe Edition - Christmas Blow-up, XXX. You are a Town Blacksmith

Each Night Phase you may visit a player of your choosing by sending me your target's name via PM. If the player you visit is not a Bomb he will be given an armor that will protect him from getting killed [Day or Night] one time. However, the armor will not protect a player from the explosion of a Bomb. If the player you visit is a Bomb nothing will happen. Neither you nor your target will be informed on whether your action has been carried out successfully or not. Each player can obtain only one armor during the game. If you visit a player a second time he will not obtain an armor even if he already lost his first one during the course of the game.

You win when the town has completely eliminated the mafia.
Mafia aligned roles:

Sent out 1-3 times:
Welcome to BiM Deluxe Edition - Christmas Blow-up, XXX. You are a Mafia Goon

You are a basic mafia thug. Your goal is to subvert the town and help your boss, the Godfather, rise to power. As a thug, you normally wield cookie-cutter type pistols to do your dirty work, but to wield such a weapon in the middle of the day would reveal as a mafiat nigh instantly. As a result, you've disarmed yourself like the Cops and the Bombs in order to better blend in.

You win when the mafia achieves a mathematical parity with the town such that the logical result of the game's procession would be an elimination of the town. Your fellow mafiosi are X, Y and Z. You may communicate with each other at any time during the game outside of the thread.
Sent out 0-2 times:
Welcome to BiM Deluxe Edition - Christmas Blow-up, XXX. You are a Mafia Assassine

You are the Godfather's right hand and have the responsibility of carrying out his Night Kills choices as well as the ability to carry out Daykills by posting Daykill: [player] in any of your posts during any Day Phase.

You win when the mafia achieves a mathematical parity with the town such that the logical result of the game's procession would be an elimination of the town. Your fellow goons are X, Y and your Godfather is Z. You may communicate with each other at any time during the game outside of the thread.

Welcome to BiM Deluxe Edition - Christmas Blow-up, XXX. You are a Mafia Godfather

You will appear to be town if ever investigated by a cop.

You win when the mafia achieves a mathematical parity with the town such that the logical result of the game's procession would be an elimination of the town. Your fellow goons are X, Y and Z. You may communicate with each other at any time during the game outside of the thread.
General note: "X, Y, and Z" doesn't necessarily mean that there are 4 mafiosi. It could be any number of mafiosi between 2 and 5![/collapse]

This game will have activity and experience requirements to join. If you don't have enough experience in my opinion or are prone to become inactive I reserve the right to deny your request to join the game.

I will start the game sometime in early-mid december, depending on whether sign-ups are complete by then and how far Nabe's private game will have progressed at that point. There's a chance that I might add some christmas related flavor to the game but the role PMs will not drastically change in any case. If you are interested, please post in this thread or send me a PM.

I hydra'd with Xonar in LoL uPick, but ignore that game.
I replaced into HxH, and I'm currently in Prisoner's Dilemma.

I only just started playing again with HxH.

I could understand getting a replacement or two or even three, but not eleven. :p

Convincing people is a skill as town or scum. Sometimes the easiest way to make people not listen to me is to just be helpful yourself; when people try to rally against me in games it becomes me versus them and often I'm better at arguing, am more active, and generally have a supported idea. It changes from one idea amongst many to picking sides, and psychologically that cements people to one position over another. If instead of arguing against me people worked WITH me and tried to alter the plans in a way they deemed more positive, people wouldn't listen to me specifically as often.

Good question. Probably New Year's. I'll basically be gone up till Christmas, then there's Christmas. I guess after that really. I won't be too hurt if it starts without me. So if it fills up without me, it's ok. But I wouldn't mind a half in.

In Ordnung?

I doubt it'll be the last BiM I host. If it turns out to be a success I'll see what I can do to host another one [or get somebody else to do it cuz I kinda like playing BiM myself ^_^]

Goons don't get guns. They get to vote on where the godfather shoots his at night and pray that they don't need to shoot during the day.

If you actually read my post there shouldn't be any questions. This goes for Kary asking how to sign up for the game as well as the people wondering who has guns and who doesn't.
