im back in Nicaragua, I'm doing a home stay though with some locals.

While there was a lot of ******** in that post, this is probably the coolest housing situation i've been in thus far, my host fam is dumb nice for no reason and I'm like actually getting the true local experience that you're not gonna get if you hit up hostels all the time. plus i been meeting chill peeps and pretending to learn spanish

though the heat and the mosquitoes can go die in a fire. they're the reasons I can't **** with this part of the world for a real extended period of time

Well I've only just finished my first year, so I've got some time before getting thrown into the hostile, thinning job market.

I've mostly enjoyed the experience thus far. W&L isn't typical in that there isn't a cutthroat community here as far as grade competition goes. Horror stories about people giving deliberately misleading info/analysis in study groups, tearing pages out of books or straight up stealing other peoples' books, and sending out deliberately flawed outlines for courses hoping to cause others to do worse, are pretty common if you look at all law schools generally, but we don't have much if any of that going on here. So it's much less hunger games-esque in that respect.

At the very least I'm learning very useful information and can already see a marked difference in my ability to understand, analyze, and apply the law. That's kinda neat. I'm working in a small firm in Roanoke for the summer which is mostly grunt work but I've gotten to flex my new legal muscle a bit here and there. Mostly research oriented, but its fun being able to do real legal research and see your findings be implemented into the strategy for an ongoing case.

Def not excited to have to compete in an increasingly difficult market to break in to, but I guess all I can do at this point is get as good at the law as I can get, considering I know I'm pretty ****ing solid at interviewing. It'll really just be grades and similar metrics that hold me back, if anything.

why are law schools so cutthroat? how does screwin over someone else help yourself do better? Is everything graded on a curve or some ****

it's ill that you're not going into law for the sole purpose of coming out with a bulky paycheck and that it's some **** you're legitimately interested. I know too many aspiring lawyers who are doing it just because they've been told it's a steady ass path to make decent money and it's an admirable job for a young american professional to aspire to.

It'd be cool to see more baller activist lawyers like all the peeps fighting the ******** court / prison system or dudes like ****ing Lawrence Lessig

Why is seph of all people stannis

Stannis and Josh both follow the moral path of duty and law (As opposed to Hedonism, Existentialism, Utilitarianism, ect). Both are completely devout to their duty. Stannis only makes his campaign because of the rightful order of succession decreed by the law. He's all about justice and little about hedonistic desires. From banging his wife to ruling his people, all are done so in terms of duty. If you know Seph, you know he is much the same way. Furthermore, Josh is a missionary for the Lord. Stannis is a missionary for the Lord of Light. Two Gods which are blatantly parallel. Who's followers claim to be the one true God, except for the Other, Lord of Darkness, who claims those who deny the Lord of Light.

It's certainly interesting to watch people try to talk about it since Game of Thrones is such a largely visual experience that people can only say, 'It's good' without going into any of the story elements of how it's a superior show.
