I don't want to admit it but it's true. Republicans are competitive.

As tempting as it is to stay out of this debate and not risk the wrath of my Idaho friends and family, I think it's quite obvious that the Republicans are the ones who are truly playing to win.

They play within the rules of the game. It's the first amendment. You can say whatever you want. Whether or not it's true is a matter of debate.

The fact is that Republicans are doing everything they can to win, and the democrats are not. The 'objective' of this game is to pass or stop healthcare reform. Right now, the republicans may be planking, but they're the ones taking the prize.

First off, i'm conservative. (just to let you know). Second, the Democrats are using their fair share of 1st amendment rights, but it's coming back to bight them in the butt (such as calling the protesters mobs and swastika carriers.) In fact, i wouldn't really call it that the republicans are competing. (they themselves are powerless united in congress) It's more of the Conservative talk show hosts and media + WE the people of the US speaking out. The Democrats fight back, and are constantly slammed by the well informed people. The Republican Party should keep voting no, propose alternate bills, and refrain from Bipartisanship.

Well, just think about it, Republicans are not as popular with people right now as they were before. The Democrats have most of the attention due to Obama so naturally, Republicans have to debate and be more competitive to avoid being forgotten by the American people.

You think that politics are a game?
You give us Idahoans a bad name. Poorly done mate. You failed. No high five for you.

EDIT: @Anyone: I'm sorry. All Idahoans aren't like him.

I don't play Anarchy much; Anarchy is always set in 75 mm or WarioWare, with Hammers on at Very High.
Yeah, that darned 75 mm. And just imagine if you fall off! That's almost a whole meter!

It's 75 m, because the stage is 75 meters off the ground in the original game, as opposed to the other three levels, 25m, 50m, and 100m (which are named with the same idea in mind).

One of the main reasons Obama won is because he was soft-spoken and generally polite. A lot of people are really tired of aggressive politics so they just aren't going to vote for these people anymore. The way you "win" in politics is by convincing people to elect and re-elect you so the Democrats are playing to win with this understanding. The Republicans don't get that their blustering is really only impressing their base (the people who are going to fairly unconditionally vote for them).

Don't forget that 2010 midterm elections are on the table, and Obama is still a very powerful name. If the health care bill fails, it will be on the heads of the Republicans and, especially, the conservative Democrats who vote against it because of the "scrubby" way the Democratic majority is handling this. Doing nothing, which is basically the position they are advocating, is obviously non-sustainable and will not be an easy sell to the public once they have to own up for this.

I think you're forgetting that Mccain is like 1,000 years old and Palin is an idiot.

But yeah, I guess being nice is cool too. =D

Either way this country is headed for fun times, and I mean that with all the sarcasm in the world.

Republicans are no more competitive than Democrats. They're just out of power, so they fearmonger.

'crats would be doing just the same thing if they had lost.

Right now, so close to the election, Democrats can ride their inertia for at least 3 more months

Haha you tell me when the Democrats used anything as outrageous as 'baby death panels' as one of their cheif arguments, then we can agree they're both playing the same.

Cool, I guess that undoes the fact that he won the 2000 election, right?

Anyway, what the hell do you want him to do? Freeze the ice with his super powers?

Democrats and Republicans are like Coke and Pepsi,

both brands will SWEAR they taste SOOO different, and people who love one or the other will NEVER change their mind. But at the end of the day there are a few people who enjoy both and aren't sure, so they FIGHT to win these "swing drinkers".

Meanwhile, they're just teaming up so that Coke and Pepsi are the only names in Cola and no one else even gets a ****ing chance, in a country where monopolies aren't supposed to exist OUR OWN POLITICAL SYSTEM IS MONOPOLOIZED. They're all working together and nothing big will EVER change.

I said to my shop teacher, "If Obama is elected nothing is going to change, maybe minor things here and there but really everything is going to stay the same for a pretty long time, probably forever".

She got angry and me and went off on a rant about how Obama is christ. You wanna know what the right ****ing answer is? Republicans are right about government, keep it small, keep it efficient, keep it cheap. Fact is ALL government run programs suck now(i.e. postal service, welfare, public education). And the Democrats are right about more social issues, gays should be able to marry(why the **** can't they? It doesn't even make sense?), abortion should be legal, I should be able to smoke weed, etc etc.

Look up Congressman Bob Barr, that man should be your president.

This could all be summed up with 'lol politics'

Seriously, both sides are terrible, just ****ing terrible.
This. A thousand times this. I'm conservative but I can't name a single person in Washington who's a "real" conservative. Our political system is garbage; everyone knows this but we don't really do anything about it because people might actually burst into flame if we try to go outside the tired Republican/Democrat way of going about things.

If you guys hate the current system so much, what's your better solution?
A system that actually works at compromise instead of catering to one side or the other. I've been complaining about this for years but I think more parties need a voice in Washington because things are so polarized now that it's disgusting. After about March, I just stopped watching the news altogether because nothing's really getting done and no body is willing to budge an inch on any of their stances.

I'm talking about solutions grounded in reality.

I would love it as well if suddenly everyone dropped their lies and flimflam and decided to work on a solution. But that's obviously not going to happen. So if you're going to complain about our current system, you'd best offer up a plausible, better one.

Public policy, I've heard, is a high-paying field, and it isn't the field that it is because it's easy. It requires, I believe, a master's degree, for one, and that is beyond the means of most people.

Furthermore, as far as simple talk goes, I believe the mere mention of government overthrow/overhaul has been designated as suspicious activity in recent years, worthy of investigation by law enforcement. Attempts to disrupt the current system, even in the form of non-violent protests, have been shut down by police and federal agents, and people have been arrested for speaking their minds publicly.

In addition to that, changing the system within the system is not simple either. The mere act of getting a proposed bill on the ballot requires a collection of signatures (usually a number in the thousands, if we're talking state-wide initiatives). I don't know very many people who can spare the time in between their 40-80 hour work weeks. A lot of people work two jobs or one and a half jobs just to keep in pace with bills.

In short, politrikks is a game that the upper-middle and upper classes play. It takes money to move ink and paper and legislation. If you have money, you can play the game. The rest of it, the stuff on the major news outlets, the "debates" on hot topic "issues," is all a sideshow. It offers the illusion of choice because democracy is supposed to be characterized by dissent, but the two sides play off of each other, and no matter which side is in power, the net force of the system stays at zero. That thing they taught us in grade school, about how one vote for everyone makes us all equal, is a lie.
