Okay that's it, I'm sick of you all flaming him. He's telling the truth.
I WORK for Nintendo. In their Consumer Service Department (aka, call 800-255-3700 and there's a chance you'll talk to me). So no, I have no inside info on the game as that isn't the developement area. Been there since the Wii launch. I know as much about Brawl the rest of you from the website except that I've also played the demo as of today for about 10 minutes and spent another 30 or so watching others play (even with it being internal, there were lines).
Yes, there is an internal E for All. Yes, it is in Cafe Mario which 's in the 4820 building, which is connected to the 4900 by the Skybridge (kickass walkway that connects on the second floor). It's Tuesday through Friday, 10AM - 4PM, though according to the internal info site, it closes on 3PM on Friday. It didn't open 'til 11AM today, though (after my start time

)
They had another event just like this during E3 and I played the first level of Mario Galaxy at it (pretty fun, but trippy btw).
For you Digipen people: If you -CAN- get in... msg me. I can give you my desk number if you wanna borrow a Classic Cont or Nunchuk. I'll be there Wed and Thurs (have Friday off). Sorry, I'm not allowed to escort guests of my own yet. Mgslee, if you wanna drop by to say hi (as you said you'd bring your own Classic) then you can pop me a message as well.
As for the actual topic at hand.
My friend brought (bought, actually... the internal store is just on the other side of Cafe Mario around the wall) a Classic Controller, so I got to give that a shot. First thing I tried (with the Classic Controller, mind you) was Wave Dashing. I jumped and air dodged up and ot the side a little. Tried it a few times, with no luck. If you're curious, I tried testing wavedashing with Mario.
Momentum Air Dodges seem to be the case, but I didn't test it enough to truly confirm it. Air Dodges definately do not respond like they used to, though. I can't fully confirm, but I -think- you can in fact jump after an Air Dodge. There's a delay on it, though. Most of the times I hit the ground before I could jump, but one time with :ink he definately did the spinning flip thing he does on his second jump (as he jumped, but it was right above the ground). So it's more of a anti-Air Dodge off the edge and die thing - as far as I can tell you cannot attack RIGHT after you Air Dodge. As I didn't try to test it a ton, I can't tell you whether you can Up B out of it or not and whether it restores your second jump (doubt it) if already used.
The Wii Remote is utter trash to play with (which is all that's there... so BYOC if you can make it or if you're going to E forAll, to be safe). It just blows. Maybe with some practice you could get decent, but it's horrid for pick up and play if you have anything specific you wanna test.
I'll test more tomorrow. I'll prolly take my break and lunch at more of an offtime, so there's less of a crowd (aside from the people I know that are coming in just to play, even though they aren't working tomorrow).
Now for some info (the whole reason to play the demo for people like us, right?).
Characters:
Mario Torando is his dair. Down B in the air just charges the water cannon while you fall. Tried hitting shield button to cancel and hold in the charge, but didn't work (mind you I tried like... twice total so there may be a way). He actually still has the Wario alt color. I'm not sure if there's more than there was in Melee, but most/all of them looked familiar.
Link's Fsmash is still a two hitter, though it seems to be a tad different. Fair and Dair are still the same, if I remember right. Up B can be charged on the ground, but not in the Air. I can only confirm Green, Red, and Blue tunics. Someone there mentioned Dark Link, but I didn't get to see what he looks like. They mentioned something about red eyes, but it was when I was playing Metaknight with a dark color that had red eyes, so dunno. I'll check on Dark Link tomorrow.
Sonic's alt costumes are just colored rings on his hands and slightly different shades of blue. I did a match with the black rings (we had two Sonics and two Ikes on Norfair) and he was just dark blue. It does not look like Shadow.
I played Metaknight but I didn't destroy everyone. Of course I didn't spam his Side Special (the torpedo-like sword move). His Down B makes him disappear and then reappear a split second later (seems to move down if you're in the air, but that may've just been me falling anyways as I was pretty close to the ground and only did it once). Didn't hit anyone with it, but it might do some damage as I think he whirls his sword when he reappears.
Diddy was the first char I played and it was with a Remote... about all I did was suicide a lot, use each of the B moves at least once, and do one or two aerials/tilts/whiffed F-Smashes. So those people that sucked in the vids? It's part because the Remote blows but also partly because Brawl is it's own game, not Melee 2.0 Anyways, Diddy's Up B is chargeable in the air. Down B is banana peel (did it with like... 5 seconds remaining, lol). I only did the side B once or twice, so can't really say too much about it.
Metaknight and Ike are two of the most used characters, so far. Might just be people wanting to check them out.
I didn't see any new Final Smashes other than Ike's (like was mentioned... he knocks the guy above screen and basically does an Omnislash before slamming back down to the stage).
On the sky stage... before you break the floors they're completely solid. So if you're below and you get knocked up, you'll bounce off instead of going through. Watched Samus Screw Attack the bottom of it a fair number of times, and then suddenly grab the edge as the screw attack ended (even though it was in the middle of one of those side platforms).
On that note, Auto-sweetspotting is more than just Link. I did it with Diddy.
On Eldin Bridge... the horseman guy (rides from the right to left, don't know about other direction) actually stole a Smash Ball, lol.
As a match starts (with entrances, of course) it displays what song is gonna be played in unobtrusive (but readable) letters.
Fun fact: As was mentioned, it's not a retail Wii - it's a Dev unit. It actually freezes up, too. Did so multiple times (once while I was there right as Ike was doing a FS, but other said it did so at other times). Since it's a Dev unit, we had to resync the Remotes when it was turned back on.
Conclusion: Brawl is a very different game. It felt like when I went from 64 to Melee - I absolutely sucked. A lot of people were suiciding that I KNOW (because I play Melee against them in the lunch room) are good at Melee. It plays that different (and the Remote sucks). In case you missed it in that wall, Air Dodging functions differently now. I think it's momentum, but I'm not ready to 100% confirm that. If it wasn't, we'd still have triangle jumps. Do one of those fast enough, and you've more or less accomplished the spacing of a wave dash. Food for thought.
Also... characters felt super slidey. So I doubt we were seeing wavelands in the previous vids. Just the new physics at work.
And remember, just because we suck right off the bat and don't have the same tricks, doesn't mean the game doesn't have depth.
I'll try to de/confirm dash dashing tomorrow, and get a better read on Air Dodges. I think I might play Fox and test shine for start-up lag/jump cancel. If I'm lucky, I might hit someone with it a few times and see what trajectory I get, lol. Saw (Samus, I think) get hit by it today and she bounced up a little. Doesn't really say much, though.
So... anyone else wanna flame Infil?
