1) You don't define a definition. You can bring definition to a definition, but that can be better worded to say "detail the meaning of this word." It's just some pun-ish type things.

2) Someone who is new to the competitive scene. They don't know what the AT's are, they don't understand what makes certain characters, what the rules of competitive play are, how to best use things in the game to their advantage, etc.

It's important to not put n00bs with scrubs. A n00b is ignorant, a scrub is stupid.

Right here, not quite now
1. Player picks the most good looking character and starts button mashing as soon as the match starts.
2. Player picks Kirby and flies up as far as possible and then spams the rock.
3. Player picks Yoshi, Bowser, TL or any other character that has an attack that slams into the ground.
4. Player starts to use smash attacks.
5. Player starts to use aerial A attacks and rolling.
6. Player starts to use grabs.
7. Player starts to use tilt attacks.

There seems to be a pretty big misconception of the definition of "Noob:"

A NOOB is defined by how little a player knows about a game. He/She is someone that is new to the game; someone that is still trying to get a grasp of the controls and other basics. This is the player that asks "How do you shield???", and other similar questions. Synonymous with "Newb." That's all; nothing more than that.

A SCRUB is defined by a player's attitude towards a game. These are the people you hear saying "OMG THAT MOVE IS CHEAP!!!11" These are the players that play the game with set, imaginary rules keeping them from truly "Playing to Win" like No Chaingrabbing, No Edge-hogging, etc.

People often confuse the words scrub and noob. It is definitely possible for someone to be a scrub and a noob, but they're 2 completely different types of players.

I'm still trying to figure that out...
8. Player stops rolling

lol

Theres a lot of definitions for noob. Do you mean as in not good player, or a bad one? You've passed bad when you learn to improvise over mistakes. this doesn't make you good though. What makes you good is when you read people and begin to mindgame.

All depends on how you spell it.
Newbie is the rookie guy/girl that has just started playing. Newb is the good kind, someone who is new but realizes that they made a mistake and will try to fix it and not burn bridges.

Noob is the kind that we all want to burn the living s*** out of. The kind who cannot spell, think stuff is cheap, and make up rules in their heads. Also the kind who refuse to follow rules, be trolls, etc.

I have always said that a newbie is someone starting something new. This could be shortened to newb. A noob or n00b is someone who has done this thing for a long time and is not as good as most would expect with the amount of experience that they should have.

Newb/Newbie - Your first tournament, you may not place very well because you don't have good match-up experience and may fail very early.

Noob/N00b - You have been playing Brawl competitively since it came out. You have gone to many tournaments before and go to the same as the Newb. You play against someone who has been playing Smash as long as you have (who progresses in Smash at an average rate, they don't sit in their basement all day to practice Technical Skill.) In the match you get 3 stocked the first time, and 2 stocked the second time. In comparison to the average player who has played as long as you have, you suck.

Newbie (Brawl version) - Someone that is new to brawl and is OK, but isnt that great.

Noob (Brawl version) - Someone that HAS experience in Brawl, but is still bad.

There, that is the difference if anyone is wondering...

noob - A title someone is given (from other people or themself), that labels them as new, ignorant, and/or horrible at doing something.

Smash, Chess, Poker, painting, eating, and life are examples of things that you can be a "noob" at.

Newb/Newbie = new player.

Noob = clueless person who believes any of the following:

1) Tiers don't exist.
2) That chaingrabs are cheap/glitches
3) That they are the best *insert character here*
4) Final Smashes should be considered in tiers.
5) Every tournament should have items.
6) That No Items, Fox Only, Final Destination is true.

Thats a good sampling there.
~But fox only final-d is true jk~

My opinion:
Newbies= new players
noobs= new/seasoned players that are fools. ^_^
I have to disagree on that one. Noobs have expirence, but still act like a newbie. In other words they have experience, butthey are still bad. Newbies dont have expirence and they are usually bad.

Well noob is basically a different spelling variation of newb, which is short for newbie. if someone's verbally calling you a noob, you can't tell the difference, so defining them as completely different words is redundant, really.

I generally hear "scrub" for an ignorant player who probably believes they're the world's best Pikachu player, or make up completely BS stories - like the time they were hitting random buttons and a super-secret move killed the guy in one shot. Or he's the guy who refuses to believe you're beating him, and repeatedly tells you he isn't trying.
I think the best definition of "noob" is just someone who's new, or isn't very good.

seasoned = experienced.
That's what the guy you quoted said.
A noob may have experience, but they can still be a butthole.

For those of you JUST saying "new player" really have no idea of the full meaning of it:

A noob is more in derogative terms. Somebody who "acts" like an amateur or rookie (whether they are one or not) in a fashion for various things, such as gaming.

The terms for new player is newcomer, freshman, novice, etc.

"Noob" is a silly old bad spelling fraction of "newbie", which isnt as derogative. (As blowtoes said, a spelling variation)

It doesnt matter where it originated from, because nowadays, most people are insulted by being called a noob, similar to racial slurs, but not as dynamic of course. People have their own way of using words, but lets not get off topic. This is where I stand when it comes to the word "noob".

In layman's terms, a noob is a derogative term toward a new person or someone acting like a new person.

^*is not wiki'd or search engined in any manner*^
