I been thinking about this and it's been bothering me, since now there are no icons how will they do stock matches?
GAH! I can't stress this enough! When the **** did Sakurai say there wouldn't be damage Icons?

Were there icons in the other games?

sorry about the huge border, just took a screenie on an emu, put on paint and fotobucket

I think they should just make a bar at the bottom of the screen that has the damage percentages and timer/stock/etc. Instead of having spaces between the icons, nothing is displayed there. The game is programmed to make sure you can always see everything that's above that bar.

I don't like the new picture things that much...
If the camera problem stays....they'll really get in the way since they don't have any transparency at all...Also the camera problem wasn't in the old one as much also because the people were just generally...smaller...notice how much longer it takes u to walk from one side of Kirby's Dreamland to the other in SSB64 than in SSBM.

The new damage meters look fine, but I think (and hope) they are for Time Mode only. If you look at the picture where Link KO's Mario, it says -1 on Mario's icon. This feature was for Time Mode only in SSBM.

I really want the head icons for Stock Mode ><

Somewhere over the rainbow presumably.
I think what someone said earlier sounded logical. Since they do look a a little awkward and they only appear in the "The Basic Rules" section, maybe they're just there to help new players connect the characters with their symbol. The whole "Smash 101" thing is intended for people new to the series after all.

If those are the actually damage meters, I don't really care. The old ones never got in the way for me, and these don't look all that worse. I'd have preferred maybe drawn portraits, but I'm not gone whine incessantly about it. :p

I'm not sure if there's already a thread about this.
If there is so, just close this.

I currently visited smashbros.com and looked at some Screenshots.
So i found the following:

Dont you think this Chart look really annoying?
Its much bigger and less transparent then the one in SSBM

actually, I'm loving it to bits. It's pretty big, but it's looking awesome.
Even when you're behind the chart, you should still know where you are, so I don't see a problem with it.

In the original SSB there were no problems with the camera or the damage chart. It didn't get in the way and you had a good view of the level and what is behind you.

In Melee there was trouble. The camera was much too close and often you could not see what is behind you. Sometimes when you were hit, you would fly so fast accross the level you would go out of screen and see yourself in the bubble even though you were still on the level and then the camera would catch up. The damage chart would also interfere in 2v2 games in places like corneria. In SSB64 the chart would be under the level usually.

The new chart looks cool as long as it doesn't get into the way of the gameplay.

My brother constantly complains about the damage getting in the way. If you play ffas, then you'd see why. They need to be smaller.

Also, on a somewhat related note, I hope you get to choose your theme color, rather than it depending on what player you are.

I am loving these. They look great and they can't be that bad if they are implemented into the game. I am sure if it sucked, Sakurai would change it or not have thought of it.

I'm having a little trouble getting used to it right now, just looking at the picture makes me go... "bleh". But, I'm pretty definite that I'll get used to it :)
Just like how I did with Melee. And like others said, it's not completely positive that, that's what it's going to look like in the end. They're still in development.

It looks fine to me, but if you could remove it as an option I would do that. Usually looking at my percentage makes me lose my concentration cause I know I'm about to die. It looks way better than the Melee one though you even get a nice little mugshot to the side of it.

Being that the portraits are copy-pasted versions of the official art, I have a feeling they were just temporary shots placed in there to complete the shot.

Sakurai (as always) could prove me wrong, though.

You should be able to wireless link up your DS to the Wii and have it personally display the percentages. =P This way, there's no way it can obstruct the view.

honestly i don't really like the big faces that are on there, seriously do you actually have to look at their face much less their name, if you ask me that's n00bish, the icons were way better in my opinion but I guess i'll just have to get use to them

I'm thinking it's just for the screenshots, because it's zoomed in like crazy. It'll probably just be similar to Melee.

I hadn't noticed the names. This bodes well in my opinion, as they may place names there instead of annoyingly hovering over you.
I'm wondering where the lives come in...?

They definitely need to change. Play 2 vs. 2 on Dreamland 64 when the camera is zoomed out, and you can't see anything. These much larger ones would really be abominable in some places.

Problem solved.

I like them, but I'd still like the option to have it Melee styled. Just because it's cool now doesn't mean it won't be annoying when the "new" factor wears off.

Well we just don't quite know as of now. Remember, those are close up shots so they won't seem that huge and everyone will eventually adjust to them. But, I wouldn't mind to have the melee types optional. And that spec of the "new" factor is cool. Though I will probably end up still liking them through, a lot of people will eventually get annoyed if they are in fact that big. We should be able to get optional melee but the likliness is not high.

Hopefully it's just a prototype deal, and it'll change back to the old style. :)

I wonder if they will put character intros back in the game...

There might be some sort of option to turn them off as well.
