Slowly starting to enjoy my mothertongue again. :)
I think that a lot of people agree that both Marth and Falco have slight advantages over Fox, while Fox has a slight one over Sheik. The rest is right though, although Sheik over Marth isn't that bad.
Marth vs. Fox is either extremely even, or in Fox' favor by a tiny amount. Fox wins on Poke stadium, Marth wins on Yoshi's, and beyond that, Fox has more good stages because all Counterpicks suck for Marth.

Meh, just because M2K says that doesn't make it necessarily true. And while I agree that Fox has a lot of awesome CP stages against Marth, most the neutrals favor Marth (Yoshi's, Battlefield, FD). Not saying it's a huge difference, but I really think Marth has a slight advantage if only because he has a lot more room for error in the match. Fox messes up, he gets grabbed and it's a stock. Fox has to work a lot harder for his kills.

Marth has to work hard for that grab though. Really, I think Fox has the easier job most of the time. Laser camping, auto combo off of uthrow, dair->shine->grab/usmash, strong nair wrecking CC, etc. etc. Imo it is easier for Fox to be the controlling one in the matchup, and Marth is always the one playing catchup and NEEDS to kill off of a grab.

In PAL I'd definitely go for Marth as having the advantage in the matchup.

Brawl certainly does suck a hard one... oh well, at least I have House and Dexter to watch on TV, takes just as much effort as brawl but with loads more entertainment.

Fox has no bad match ups, but vs Marth you need to be CRAZY careful, one mistake and its very easy for him to kill you with a chain grab and its very easy for him to kill you off the edge. It's an even match up but the Fox has to try harder it seems to me.

Agree to disagree then. We can at least agree Brawl sucks.

I can see why you feel this way towards a game like Brawl. I just posted a comment on something that argues your ideals, but I like to see both sides of the argument. I myself was never good at the techniques of Melee, such as wave-dashing and anything involving the L-cancel, so I can see how much hard work players put into the competitive side of that game. But maybe it could be because you need to play better friends or rather people, because it doesn't seem like your being satisfied in your play of Brawl. As for myself I experience as much gameplay intense competition in Brawl as I do in Melee simply because they are different games. Your outlook on comparing to other fighting games as something of a higher level of competition and that Brawl did tone down the intense action you would expect from the genre, but I would not go so far as saying that Brawl simply took its reputation it had from Melee to sell a "bad" game for profit. You would have to allow the game more time for players to discover techniques and develop a competitive gameplay. As I recall the intention for L-cancelling and wavedashing were not intentionally put into the game but rather discovered. It wouldn't be fair to say that for you though expecting a Melee 2.0 to be justified with that though. I agree that the game is easier, but its different too so that it can be something else that players can have fights over and laugh about in the end.

I'm scared at what Nintendo is going to do to it's entire audience.

Have you guys heard the rumor about the next F-Zero coming out?

It's going to have weapons...
That's right. F-Kart.
The source is reliable so I just hope to God it doesn't end up making it to the finished game. Miyamoto actually said he was displeased with F-Zero GX and wasn't letting Sega work on the next one.

Also for topic's sake. I agree with Jam on everything but the MK issue, which is pointless to argue over here. So have a <3 instead.

Face it guys, competition in video games is dying. Games are becoming too easy, requiring less thought so that grandma can play too. The worst part is, grown ups actually like it because they can play games with their 3 year old grandchildren, as a result the 3 year old grand children grow up not understanding how good video games could have been.

When I started playing games they were SO HARD, has anyone tried to beat say the first Zelda game in a while? How about the first Sonic, or Megaman, or almost any game on the NES. I've actually heard of people who think that it's a special skill to use hotkeys when dueling in WoW. Seriously, who here would use anything but hotkeys when dueling, the very idea of it is ridiculous. Anyways I have to go get ready for work but you guys all have a good one.

Yeah.

Jam: That is EXACTLY what I thought when I saw and read that thread. Absurd.

Binx: I'm disappointed a little in that I didn't grow up with console games, so I never experienced all of this. Now that I'm on the competetive side of gaming as it is dying, I just wish I had been around during Gaming's Epic Time, so to speak. This is why I love the VC and gamecube games going down in price.

lol

@thread:
alot of the participants/scrubs/whiners/etc who participate in SWF tend to not go to tournaments. I noticed one name coming up in tier/ban discussions, and he kept arguing and arguing (for example, "ban metaknight because of this and this..." etc

but I had seen that name on AiB, and he could be quoted as saying
"lololol
I don't go to tournaments"

...

so why argue?

@F-Kart:
more like speed racer :dizzy:

As I recall the intention for L-cancelling and wavedashing were not intentionally put into the game but rather discovered.
L-cancel has been in the previous smash games. I believe it was even mentioned in the manual for SSB64 or something, talking about how you can hit shield while landing Link's D-air to avoid landing lag. Except it carried over to everything else.

Wavedashing also had a certain mechanic with its landing lag/slide that kind of showed that developers were aware of it, but they didn't expect it to be such a game-changing option with movement. People just learned how to use it smartly.

I dont understand why people complain about using the physics engine to our advantage... they are using the same physics engine, just not as well. It's a bunch of scrubs saying don't do stuff I won't take the time to learn how to do.

Lol.
The games were hard and the Game Over screens were sad.
I was playing Donkey Kong Country today and when I saw the game over screen i remembered how sad I got when I saw it as a kid LOL. Its still pretty depressing.

Never for the life of me could I make it past the Sky fortress level of Sonic 2. ZOMFG running around the stage at blistering speed and getting nowhere at all. Ridiculous.

The water stages used to scare the heck out of me, especially with the frightening music that plays before sonic drowns.

lol Sonic 2 wasn't that hard. In that Sky Fortress level, you have to either play very fast and try to get very lucky and end up where you want to--lol thats what I always did-- or you need to move very slow...which is impossible.

The water stages also scared me, especially when I was 8 years old. "Oh noes im gonna die. scary music is on." lmao those were great times.

Dam is that Megaman boss beatable? Looks like someone who will piss you off...really bad.

Edit: This thread it too good.

deffinitely agree, hardest game of all time is kid icarus though... that game is bananas
I haven't ever played through that, I might have to one of these days. I'm still stuck on Super Ghouls & Ghosts, and I'm playing on an emulator with save states. Game is nuts.

i agree with Jam, the anguish that comes with super ghouls and ghosts isn't worth it, its a great game but the bomb they drop on you in that game is very big and painful

As someone who played 'casual competitive' melee with friends (ie was pretty good but didn't do AT stuff), even I agree with you. One thing I would add is that Brawl permits guys like me who enjoy the strategy aspect of Smash, but don't have time to train and perfect tech skills, to enjoy the game a little deeper level, since tech skill was so important in melee... Of course, as a political conservative I totally agree with the emptiness and lack of satisfaction that socialism (video-game or real-life) offers. As a pseudo casual, I still like Brawl, but I have to admit it does feel a little empty sometimes compared to Melee, and I think you've explained why.

Good read Jam, lots of valid points. Although I must admit I do love some aspects of Brawl.... Like its music anthology, seeing all my fav videogame characters fight together in SSE, and the trophies. As a competitive game though, you're right, it just comes up kinda short.

Nintendo really make me sick these days with their "make the game piss easy" approach. I mean, weren't their games responsible for the invention of the term "Nintendo Hard"?
