Ah...no. Brawl is a more refined game than Halo, and doesn't appeal to as many people.

Think of it like this: Halo=Beer and Brawl=Wine

It's very unlikely... Halo 3 already has a head start so it can amass an even bigger number of fans by the time Brawl comes out, and you have to consider that shooters are now the most popular genre of video games, with a lot of them getting huge amounts of hype and advertising... especially if you're Microsoft!
Brawl's fighting genre doesn't really appeal to the super-casual gamer like a shooter does, and I doubt it will be advertised as heavily either.

So yeah... very unlikely!

Halo 3 has a huge lead in popularity right now. Of course, most people tend to want the XBOX 360 over the Wii anyway.

You should get your facts;
These are the sales of all 3 next gen consoles worldwide as of August 26th (pretty much a month ago)

http://www.engadget.com/2007/08/23/total-wii-sales-surpass-the-xbox-360-worldwide/

Now, The release of Halo 3 may have, and probably did tip the Xbox360 passed the Wii in sales. But considering that the Xbox360 had more than a YEAR head start for sales on the Wi, really defeats your statement. If anything, people want Wii's over Xbox360's

Correction.

Casual players who know nothing of gaming and want goof off with silly titles/ Wii sports are the ones who want Wii's the most.

Gamers on the other hand have to settle for one or two titles i.e Brawl and Prime 3.

>_>

Honestly you can't compare the Wii to the Xbox 360 or the Playstation 3. Nintendo is targeting a completely different market now. I don't even consider the Wii in a console war with the other two systems anymore.

Halo 3 isn't that hyped over here, I haven't even seen an advert for it yet.

Plus they're two completely different games, that come out at completely different times. SSBM also sold LOADS, plus more people have Wii's than Gamecubes, and everyone that bought SSBM will want to buy Brawl, and all those new gamers who want to play as Pikachu against Mario.

EDIT:

And Nintendo are aiming at a completely different market.

Think of it like this: Halo=Beer and Brawl=Wine
More like Halo=Beer and Brawl=Strong mixed drink

(biased post with generalizations) Most of the douchebags that play halo, think they have to give up some kind of "manhood" to play a game like smash.

"I don't like cartoony games"/"Wii is for little kids" is what i hear all too often.

Have you ever been to a Halo2 tournament? It's like all these gangsta thugs thinkin' they're tough because they play a game with guns. They also bring along their skank-ass hos who's faces you can't even make out through 20 lbs of makeup.

I remember at EGL Chicago tourney, they had both tourneys in the same hall, and these guys were mocking our game, lol. I've used to play Halo a lot, and the skill difference between games is laughable. I told them if they wanna play a real FPS stop playing on a console. I think they grunted and pounded thier clubs on the ground a lot.

Unfortunately the majority of the population is consisted of these players and therefore, i see no possibility of Smash ever being as big as Halo.

[EDIT] I don't see the relevance of the Wii Vs XBox360 sales records to smash or halo. The Wii franchise is targeted to a larger and more general audience. Microsoft doesn't care about "everyone playing Xbox"

Uhm, bla, bull****?!
Nintendo is going to make an All-Star Game.
And even if not anyone doesnt have a wii in this ****ing world, they often have a favourite character of nintendo. Fighting Games are at least as attractive as shooter games. The problem is: 3D is not Kickass for Fighting Games. But not for Brawl Baby!
And even if someone doesnt like Nintendo Characters - THIRD PARTY YAY!
Nintendo is going away from its childish aspects and Nintendo will sell, ALOT?!
Not as much as Halo 3 of course, because North America leaks behind.

The Problem is that Nintendo doesnt have this great typ of marketing, like Microsoft has.
Micrsoft can make a good game in a "OMGGGGGGG I WANT THIS GAME!!!!" even its still only a good game. They know how to present a game. Nintendo should pump more money in there marketing department.

Come to the UK.

Almost no Xbox adverts.
Loads of Wii ones. Almost every show on one of the most popular channels is sponsored by Nintendo.

EDIT:

Only ever seen one Xbox 360 advert, for Bioshock.

I doubt Nintendo will do something like what Microsoft did: Close down 5th avenue and drive Halo 3 vehicles around the street while Master Chief arrived to hand out the first two copies of Halo 3.

Lol same here. Brawl isn't as hyped up as Halo 3. That's a good thing since there wouldn't be crazy fanboys and long lines to get your copy.

You are correct. The reason nintendo isn't more into it is because they never had to be before. Think about it, they never put much effort into it even back in the day and they really didn't have much competition because of word of mouth. But now, as they do have more competition than they used to, their advertising focus needs to be changed as well.

Honestly i think that's a little much, but if it brings in the people anything goes. I could just see Nintendo bringing Yoshi,Mario, and DK into New York or some other Major City and handing out copies of Brawl.

Let's be realistic, people:

1. Halo is an INSANELY successful franchise, and Microsoft really got lucky that they landed such a good game; I really do like Halo, and Halo 3 is a really well-made sequel.

2. People DO consider the Wii to be a kids system because, frankly, Nintendo has let us down in terms of keeping the flame burning with a steady release of killer games; I consider most of the games for the Wii to be untouchable.

3. Smash Bros. really does target a unique gaming market because (at least with Melee) you can go from first-time "hey this is funny" gameplay with a couple of friends to ultra-precise battles where advanced play strategies are required to survive. Whereas people start at the bottom in Halo (presumably) and eventually work themselves up to "really good", people tend to cut off in Smash: they either CAN or CAN'T get how to play the game using more advanced strategies like wavedashing, L-canceling, perfect move execution, etc. I have friends who have played SSBM as long as I have who really don't get the game's unique physics and are still kind of stuck at that "hey, I'm okay" level of skill.

4. Nintendo is a family-friendly company. The online play in Super Smash Bros. Brawl is weak, but at least they're giving it to us. Honestly, while playing strangers, it makes sense to be anonymous (although you should be able to add a stranger as a friend after a match or something). But when playing with friends, Nintendo should have all out voice chat, stat logging, movie playback (a la Halo 3), etc. The thing is that they don't intend Smash to be played this way. Microsoft (Bungie) intends Halo to be played by hardcore gamers who want gaming "power tools."

5. Super Smash Bros. Brawl will be a REALLY successful launch because of the time they're putting into it, but it really took Nintendo WAY too long to put out a really good game since the system's launch (Twilight Princess, while amazing, was just a GameCube game).

SSBB, Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart, Metroid Prime 3 (no online play is absurd; games shouldn't be allowed to exist without online play)...those may be the revival games for the Wii, but I know a lot of people who have lost faith in the Wii as a "real gaming" system.

Just my $0.02, anyway. :)

We're talking about Halo 3 here. You cannot be serious.

Unavoidable.

Who cares? You'll probably never battle them again anyway.

That's not been proven.

It's Nintendo. Were you really expecting it?

A system update disabled the freeloader, it can disable AR.
Knowing all of that, how you can say the online setup doesn't suck when comparing it to Halo 3's? The Online is part of why Halo was so successful. I don't see SSBB pulling as much attention when you can't even know who you're playing agaisnt.

Why do people continually make threads like this?

First of all, Halo 3 is FPS, not a Fighter. There's no justice in comparing the two, they're both different types of games. You want to compare to Street Fighter? Fine. Soul Calibur? Sure. But Halo? It's like comparing a tractor to a sports car; both serve their use, both are vehicles, but they accel at different things.

Second, Halo 3 trumps Brawl in almost every technical aspect. With Brawl's flimsy online mode, people may get turned off quicker.

Lastly, Halo3 has been marketed to no end, and let's face it: the general public will perfer Halo. There's a ****ing soft drink made for Halo. Compare Melee to Halo 1... People just like Halo better in general - too bad so sad.

So your answer can be found by looking around and doing some research rather than making a ******** thread.

By the way, the answer is NO.

I'm gonna say Brawl's gonna steal the show in the long-long run. It's still gonna get a good launch of course, but I think Smash for some people will spread like a virus once people start playing it and showing it off.

When you show off Halo 3, a lot of people are just going to see "another-first-person-shooter", 'cause there are a lot of them out there, I mean, all with different themes, (world war, si-fi, horror), but shooters nonetheless. I know a hardcore Halo fan or even gamer realizes there is a little more to Halo than that, but I don't think it's gonna set off any screaming alarms in the average persons head.

Although maybe I'm wrong, maybe people will just see "another Nintendo game".

But I have faith.

From Wikipedia:

" Halo 3 also holds the record for the biggest opening day in entertainment history, making $170 million dollars in its first 24 hours.[7]"

If Halo 3 just broke the record, it's HIGHLY unlikely that Brawl will beat Halo 3. Don't get me wrong: I would love NOTHING more than for Brawl to own Halo 3, but it isn't going to happen. But what does that change? I'm still in love with the Smash series. I consider my skill to be unique because there are 40 quadrillion people that love Halo.

Here's to SSBB! :) It's gonna be good.

Unfourtenatly at my high school that has a lot of people it seemed like EVERYBODY was talking about Halo 3, even some of the teachers were too. O_o

The school where I go to it seems like everybody dosn't give a **** about Super Smash Bros so as much as I hate saying this I think SSB series is no where near as popular as Halo. Its either that or I'm in a school where everybody dosn't give about SSB.

Hahahahahaha... are you serious?! That's absolutely ridiculous, and way over the top.

Microsoft needs to stop acting like Halo is God's gift to videogaming. It's an ok game. Mario is bigger than Master Chief will ever be, and you never see/saw Nintendo parading their mascot around like it's Jesus mixed with Superman or something.

Great... Another thread comparing halo to brawl.

STOP IT ALREADY!

You can't compare mario, a fat plumber, to master chief, a huge fool dressed in thick armor that snipes aliens out of the air.

Think of it this way. If the wii sells more, and brawl becomes the must have game, it might just sell more.

And halo3? It's outsold almost every big media and entertainment project, ON ITS FIRST TWO DAYS. That is truly unbelievable...

So who wins this debate? No one, because it's a forum debate, and we all know no one ever wins on forum debates...

Isn't it ironic how my signature models this very same conflict? :psycho:

I hate to say it but probably no. >_> You see in this world of pop culture and fads, people tend to see FPS as the better games. Why? Simply because it has what they think is cool. These are namely violence, guns, blood and well shooting. Not only that they think FPS are more mature and naturally more suited for their age group. They look at the SSB series as kiddy for the use of Nintendo characters and the fact that the characters are slashed to bits and bleed. Not only that, they see Pikachu and think "LMAO THIS GAME IS SO GHEY AND KIDDY." This is a generalization but all the people that I know who tend to follow the crowd are bigger fans of Halo than SSB. Either that or they think Halo is statistically funner than SSB.
