So, Chibi-Robo's up in the spotlight, huh? I assume he'll have a cleaning-based moveset... definitely could be fun!

I'll ask the obligatory question: Does Zip-Lash get content? If so, how much?

For better or worse, Zip Lash gave Chibi-Robo the perfect Smash moveset, to the point where some people thought it was an elaborate Smash hint.

Nominations: Klonoa x10

That is very true, yes. Unfortunately, playing as Chibi-Robo in Smash will also mean that you cannot pick a stage; you have to spin a wheel to decide if you get to play a new stage or just do what you did last time.

Yes. The title just hasn't been updated yet.

Also, just 2 days away from the end of the week, so everyone get your noms in!

right then, allow the owner of his support thread to offer his own thoughts

let us start with the who?

within the games chibi-robo is not one character but a series of commercially available miniature robots built for the purpose of making people happy. this happiness can be spread from simple household tasks of cooking and cleaning to more difficult things such as saving a marriage and defeating robots. thus far the series has five entries, the orginal plug into adventure on the game cube and later wii. park patrol on the ds which some of us had to import from australia. welcome home another ds instalment not seen outside of japan. let's go photo/photo finder for download on the 3ds utilizing the console's AR. and finally zip lash, the 2d platformer on the 3ds.

now on to the main point, how would he play well he has had all manner of items at his disposable over the series. his blaster from a couple game the function of which i picture working like megman's and of course his extendable plug used as a lash as seen in zip lash, something that was often compared to the belmonts. and then of course there are his less obvious tools, the toothbrush he uses to clean stains, the spoon he uses as a shovel, his flower picker that would work as a grab, his squirter perhaps best used for tripping foes, his vacuum for gathering dust and of course his chibi copter which he could use to glide. he also has several vehicles he could ride in park patrol, from tricycles and toy cars, used to slam into big enemies. hes even had a helicopter to ride on. in sip lash he could use certain sockets to give him temporary augmentations such as fire, which i believe nintendo US used on their twitter account for a while, and ice for the crossing of lakes. across his five games chibi has acquired a veritable arsenal of things he can use in smash.

next let us address the power supply. for those of you less familiar within his own games in place of a standard health meter chibi has a power supply that constantly drains and requires regular recharging. an interesting gameplay mechanic which was always something i liked. now there are some people who say a character would need such a gameplay mechanic in smash for reasons that they wont explain clearly. but would the power supply work in smash? maybe. if it was to work like it did in his own games his damage percent would be increasing constantly and presumably there would be some socket we could easily summon to recharge. this however feels like it would be broken and completely impractical to use in smash. the other way it could appear would be something akin to the inklings' ink, something that drains when using nearly any move that can be recharged at any time but without he nearly ineffective. this would work the best but part of feels that it would a gimmick for the sake of having one. lastly it could work as a temporary power boost like wft's deep breath.

potential final smashes? there are a few. in the original game chibi helped recurring character drake redcrest preform what was called the great twin blizzard. something that dropped a large chunk of ice so in smash a huge chunk of ice would tear through the stage like a reverse iceberg. then we have super chibi-robo, in the first game it was merely a costume, in ziplash it was a more powerful form he could take. now FS have all been made to be faster so a super chibi FS would probably be a cutscene one where he wrecks people with his plug. also in zip lash for the final boss chibi gains a gigantic battle suit a natural fit for a final smash. also if need be he can someone his predecessor giga robo a larger bulkier robot made for the same purpose who could tear through the stage.

next we have stages! the first game is set within one house, now i would say the best way for a stage is a tour stage which takes you to each room in the house. alternatively if we were to have a fixed stage the living room would be the most familiar and hey it would be cool to see the smashers battle on a couch. park patrol's locations were less numerous, a stage from there would most likely be based on the titular park. a stage where the aesthetic changes from baron to lush as is chibi's job in the game. number 3 is also set in one house so perhaps a tour stage would work here as well. or perhaps the casino found in the attic. let's go photo had a number of small areas to explore however the best choice would be the nostaljunk museum. the purpose of this game was to take pictures of real world objects which would then be displayed in the museum. the stage would likely be in the museum with different items in the background. number five has a series of stages to chose from, perhaps the space station chibi works on would be best suited.

there are characters a plenty for spirits and lots of music too, however if i start listing them we'll be here all day. but iw will offer this

It's been a good while. Chibi-Robo is a really neat character. I remember him using things like a toothbrush, his giant robot form, as well as swinging his cord itself. He has a ton of tools he can help with in the game, leading to very easy tilts, akin to what Bowser Jr. has with a silly assortment of items.

He also has, if I remember right, a helicopter bit, which makes for a perfect Up B. Taunts could also include him charging up(though that could make for a fun mechanic as well. Charging himself to make certain abilities be more powerful. It'd be based upon his normal robotic abilities, not just the random assortment of items he can use). I also remember him having some kind of projectile weapon? I just forget the details.

I never played more than the GCN version, though. Also, the victory screens should include his family as well. At least one posing with them all.

Spirits-wise, you gotta have your typical enemies, his family, and at least one boss. Maybe more than one, since the final boss is a fairly obvious choice.

(Sorry for the mostly piecemeal conversation. My memory isn't very good).

it should be noted that the chibi-copter is incapable of elevation. while that may not matter for smash is does seem like one of the random things that hed stick to. thats not to say it couldnt still work as a recovery move but perhaps something more like peach's

So basically he'd spring up and then use Chibi-Copter? Sounds good to me. Though what would work for the spring-up part otherwise?

I think it'd be more awkward if it worked like R.O.B.'s Up B, yeah.

Well I once had the idea that he could pull out telly and he’d carry him upwards like snake’s thing

You could even have a Spatula fling him into the air if you really wanted to. There's so many easy ways to justify it within the game itself.

Oh, hey, it's Chibi-Robo's day!

Something that strikes me as very important about Chibi-Robo is the plug. The way it trails behind him, plugs into things, and recharges his battery is so core to the games - at least the original and Park Patrol - that I have to imagine it as a core thing in his moveset.

Personally, I've always had the visual of Chibi-Robo plugging into the stage and from thereon being mildly tethered to that spot unless the cord gets tugged hard enough - or smacked out of the socket.

And yes, in my head you could plug into the side of the stage for weird edgeguards where you're hanging by your cord. I imagine gravity starts to make the plug slip out, so you can't hang there forever, but it could give Chibi-Robo some interesting stuff.

Heck, we're talking about recovery - maybe that's it...

Chibi-Robo seems like a surprising candidate for Smash that a few people on this site seem to want if fogbadge's lesson in gaming is anything to go by. Honestly seems like a very charming game with charming characters, if you ask me.

Some sort of unique plug mechanic sounds great for sure! It definitely is a famous part of his kit and a major mechanic in his games, even the... less beloved ones.

well dont forget chibi picks up the plug in order to run with it. using it as a tether recovery would tie in with using in like he does in zip lash

Chibi Robo has a fun and unique look and seems like he would make for a pretty cool Smash character. How much do you think they would reference the side scrolling game as far as his moveset goes? I know it wasn't really very popular but I imagine that game would probably translate to Smash mechanics really well, like most platformers.

Sorry I haven't been posting in a while. I'm on vacation this week and we have a friend staying over the whole week, in addition to the other factors with my dog who is thankfully doing much better at least.

Personally, while I wouldn't mind his physics being based somewhat on Zip Lash, and I've already mentioned the titular Zip Lash making for a fun recovery where you can plug into the stage, I don't think I would really want to see a majority of the moveset based on it. This isn't even me disliking Zip Lash, I just never played the game.

Anyway, I think I need two of his taunts to be "yes" and "no" signs, because those could be hilarious in practice.

Chibi Robo really should be in Smash but it sort of felt like he missed the boat a while ago.
Its a shame because theres a ton of great moveset potential.

How big would Chibi-Robo be in smash? Olimar is significantly larger in smash than in pikmin (duh) but how do we scale Chibi-Robo? In his game he is bigger than Olimar is in pikmin so would Chibi-Robo be larger than Olimar in smash?

chibi would be a small character sure. I believe he’s 6 inches which is two less than Kirby.

I'm not very well-versed on Chibi-Robo as a series, so is anyone able to give a rundown on the gameplay, setting, and all that?
For Zip-Lash it's basically Castlevania but replace the whip with his plug.

The original I believe is just a find-and-search game and barely any combat involved that takes place in someone's house/backyard.

The original game is all about helping out your family with tons of various tasks, from going into small spaces to fix a plug, to flipping burgers. It has, as noted above, very little combat(as it's not the core focus), but is more like having lots of mini-games rolled into one big game.

You also have to recharge your character from time to time, being a machine running on battery power. You even get a battery upgrade as is. You also do things based upon a daily time(though I don't remember if you're limited by a number of days or not).

Hmm, nominating... Tekken's Kazuya Mishima. While Kazuya's kinda been in the conversation, he's been overshadowed by his father - but has some critical enough differences to him and his son to stand out on his own merits. As such, going with him fully.
Man, this sure aged like fine wine.

Chibi-Robo is basically a Roomba+. He's a little robot who is designed to do various menial tasks and, in the process, he generally makes the world around him brighter/better (in the first game, this meant he was helping out a family and improving their relationships with one another in the process; in the second one, he was helping out with a park becoming brighter and healthier; etc.).

So, in terms of how setting would translate into a Smash stage, it'd probably be a house with you being small... but in a different way from how the Nintendogs stage is a house where you are small!

Chibi-Robo is an IP worth playing though! I know its most famous for its slow and tragic death nowadays, but Chibi-Robo is a really unique take on the life sim genre that is very cute and fun and cozy, while also covering some more harshly realistic/honest in how it depicts family as not always being healthy or fully-fuctional but always capable of love (like, Mrs Sanderson threatens to divorce her husband and semi-regularly passive-agressively suggests she should run away with Chibi-Robo, as at least he's capable of completing a basic task. This game doesn't shy away from harsh realities of how well-meaning and well-intentioned households can become toxic through no one individual person's fault.)

Let's Geo-light up some discussion, shall we?

...

Honestly, this isn't an IP I can really lead any sort of discussion on, but I wanted to make that pun. So, what's the wild world of Meteos like, beyond it being a game Sakurai was involved with?
