snake is a toss up but this is basically what I expect.
I personally don't see Snake, even still, as a veteran because of the fact that Konami/Kojima stated that despite their desire for his return and were never approached by Nintendo. That is my biggest grounds for it. Sakurai stated that, in some draft, the roster was planned since the earliest stages of Smash 4. Sure, changes like swapping Chrom for Robin or the additions of Lucina, Doctor Mario, and Dark Pit being promoted from alternate costumes. Lucas, Mewtwo, Wolf, and even Roy I could see as "planned to be in, but were lost due to time." Infact,
kinda lost a spot already for this reason. Ryu... is an massive variable about this all. (Once again, all assuming the leak is real which basically is confirmed until proven otherwise for now).
This is basically what my thoughts were the other night. Most of the DLC already can be assumed to be veterans aside from Ryu. If you add Snake, you bring together a very large percentage of the overall Smash roster.
Kojima only said when asked if snake was in before the release of this game, was that "he doesnt know since hes not working on the game, and then he asked for sakurai to please put him in", nothing more.

As much as I love the Smash fan base, the assumptions and iron clad rules they make up for themselves in times like this where something unprecedented is taking place really grind my gears.

I never understood the argument that we weren't getting anymore DLC characters after Mewtwo which is why I'm glad Lucas put that to rest (as well as the Smash Ballot). I mean if you're going to do DLC, you might as well take advantage of its potentials to sell to consumers and based off what we have seen so far, that's exactly what Nintendo is trying to do.

Yeah, I'd agree there.
In Japan they are nobodyTerribly true but the characters are pretty much nostalgia incarnate for many Nintendo fans.If Lucas made people bawl their eyes out for an hour out of happiness when he was announced, Banjo and Kazooie would make people lay down on the ground and ugly cry for a solid month if they ended up getting in. Imagine this:
