Are you refering to the Petilil/GameFAQ leak? That doesn't get proven wrong until the end of the week, if it is fake.
That topic got deleted anyway, there were inconsistencies and I don't see a character who has always been a secret character being revealed before release. Especially since there are no special circumstances like Luigi and the 3rd party characters had.

It got deleted for going off topic, I heard. Hasn't Marth always been a secret character as well? Even so, being unlikely =/= deconfirmed.

Wait, what is this? First I've heard of it.
"A guy I know who works for the marketing department of Nintendo has given me a little bit of info about the game as a result of promotional materials he has seen, and while I can't completely confirm or deny the Sal Roman leak with what he has, he said that Shulk is definitely in and Lucas is definitely out, which lines up with Sal's info. Additionally, Mewtwo is playable and King K. Rool is a boss on a new DK stage based off of the Gangplank Galleon stage. As for credibility, obviously I have none, so he said to say that Falco is supposed to be revealed this week. So, that basically gives him a very small window of opportunity to be proven fake."

I feel like he posted more, but the thread got deleted. Maybe someone else can chime in.

It was a "leak" claiming that Falco would get revealed on a PotD by the end of the week, and it claimed stuff like the leaker working in marketing and that Lucas is definitely cut. But it's a Gamefaqs leak with no evidence other than a deadline that isn't going to happen and "they work at Nintendo." I'd honestly be really shocked if that happened, and there have been a lot of "leaks" jumping on the "If Falco it's real" bandwagon so I wouldn't believe it anyway.

The goal of all "leakers" that set some kind of deadline (usually a veteran character reveal) is to correctly predict information so that their "leak" gets validated.

That's why so many people do it instead of just stating random stuff with no basis.

Why Falco all of a sudden?
Aren't the other spacies usually just unlockables and don't get revealed after release?

I'd expect Game and Watch, Meta Knight and Ice Climbers at the least to be revealed before launch for Veterans. Not really much more... I expect the starting roster to be 36-38. If the August Direct is another Smash Direct, though- then I'd lean closer to that 38-40 zone.

Wait, what?
I don't believe anything has come up that hurts his chances. At all. Aside from a single rumor (that was proven fake, I'm not talking about the Sal leak as that has nothing to do with K. Rool) and arbitrary statements about character slots, there is pretty much nothing that hurts his chances. In fact, I'd say it's pretty strong since, you know, Kritters? Those guys have never appeared in a game without K Rool in it before and vice versa. I doubt this is the exception.

There's a lot of evidence pointing towards Mewtwo's inclusion, but sure, if someone had to be bumped out it would likely be Mewtwo, only to 100% be sold as DLC soon after.

And there's no logic in the CSS rumor, considering that...
A. Sakurai said that the demo is a "very early build" which could easily mean that the roster slots change in size.
B. Even so, the CSS can fit 51 characters quite well.
C. Slot size changed in Brawl when more characters were unlocked, so it can very well this time too.

There's really no reason to say that the roster will definitely be 47 slots + random.
Factor in the fact that the demo is very early development, more characters CAN be fit, and slots change size anyway.
Whether or not the slots in the demo fit the screen is pretty much irrelevant.

Does anyone know when they'll release the next character? Before they were following 1-a-month pattern.

You know what newcomer I want? Shovel Knight:

That would be the best thing ever as it represents the new hip indie Wii U scene. Since you know, Shovel Knight is a console exclusive.
Or Quote.
Cave Story is a Nintendo / PC Exclusive franchise. I also think Cave Story is a large face of the Indie scene, since it was originally made by one person and is a critically acclaimed title. But that's just me.

Sometime in July would be the safest bet.

Question: is Quote the mascot of his company?

Probably next month like usual. Most of the remaining vets don't have a game to promote atm anyway.

Next newcomer will probably be at the next Direct... which I'm guessing won't happen before August.

Quote is in an interesting situation. He was originally created by Studio Pixel (Which is run by one person). He was then approached by Nicalis for the game to be ported to WiiWare, and since then they've ported it and remade it several times for the Wii, DSi, 3DS, and PC.

Cave Story is currently, from what I understand, technically a Nicalis IP now. But I'd imagine Pixel has a large presence when it comes to using the franchise.
Nicalis doesn't really have a mascot, except for maybe the guy from 1001 Spikes. But Quote is by far the more well known character. I mean Cave Story is arguably both the most well known and critically acclaimed indie game ever made.

I'm hoping they announce all characters by the last direct.
Newcomers maybe, I highly doubt we'll see all of the veterans revealed though. There's a bit too much of them to reveal in just three months unless they increase the character reveal rate to like three a month. Even then, a few of them would still be unaccounted for.

Why are people saying miis a three different characters?
They are ONE character, with a great customization potential. Miis are Miis, period.
Some people like to count them as three characters for the sake of newcomer speculation, and regardless of slots they did take the development time of three characters even if they share the slot. It's kinda like Pokémon trainer in Brawl.

How many characters overall if there is DLC? That is what I don't get about DLC. Nor do I believe it's going to happen.

They wouldn't miss the marketing opportunity of leaving some newcomer trailers secret, would they?
Actually, even with secrets, they can still get those trailers out. What they will probably do is release the 3DS version, then announce the rest of the characters before the Wii U version. This way, buyers of the 3DS version will still have surprises(if you live in japan anyway, since they get it first) and other people will know the full roster before the"big" version come out. It's a win win really.

Everyone will know everything once the 3DS ver in japan is released right?

Nah... Miis are not pokemon trainer. Yeah, three different movesets, fair, but they must be counted as one newcomer. Sakurai count PT as three characters in one slot, so he's three in one. Sakurai count Miis as one, with three types, so they are one in three.

Meh, I don't care, it's confusing.

I believe it's going to happen 'cause Bamco. I'd imagine Capcom would also vouch for DLC, 'cause Capcom. There's also some evidence that there's Smash content slated for 2015, we just don't know what yet. The current theories range from the aforementioned DLC and an arcade version, 'cause Bamco's leading that charge.

Anyway, how many characters overall? I'd imagine most of the viable characters will wind up as DLC - Mewtwo, Roy, any Brawl newcomers left out of the final version - but I'm not really counting on legitimate newcomers. If we do get actually unique newcomers to the franchise, it'll be one or two at best.

If the roster will fit up to 51 people will they expand it for DLC or will a part of that 51 will be DLC? And what's the point of DLC if it's only for like 3-5 characters

Well yeah, it's inevitable really. After a couple days, or maybe even a few hours, people will have already unlocked every character, and the roster will get out online for people to be spoiled, myself included because I can't wait that long.

Dang, where the heck are Ness and Wario? We should have them in by now.
Saving Wario for dat delicious dual reveal with Chorus Kids

How come my favorite character still hasn't been revealed after a year since the game was revealed?

I still don't trust Gematsu, but ok I guess.

Why would they do Wario as a tie in with the choir boys though? It don't make sense to me
Warioware and Rhythm Heaven are by the same developers.
They are both wacky minigame collections and make cameos in their respective games.

Lots of ties to each other.

Interesting. But still, I doubt that kinda event would happen unless Sakurai decides to do another Smash Direct, which I highly doubt will happen anytime soon

Ness is likely chilling with Captain Falcon in the unlockables suite. They are more of a pair than Lucas and Ness.

As for Wario, that's a little something. Perhaps he's recieved a bigger change in his moveset? I'd expect him as a reveal pre-release because Brawl vet that was a starter and all.

My biggest fear is for him to get an overhaul.

Probably didn't though, as I don't think the time of reveal has anything to do with movesets, especially for a character that doesn't need one. Still curious on why they're holding him for so long.

Forgive me for beating a dead horse, but there is no reason to deny it any longer.
The planets have aligned, Wii Fit Trainer was revealed. The Villager was revealed. A Pokémon from X and Y was revealed. The Miis are referred to as "Mii Fighters". There is a Rhythm Heaven enemy in Smash Run.

Romano's source is undoubtably credible.

I know, but the main reason I don't trust Gematsu is because they predicted Lucas will be cut from the game.

And how does that make them less credible? i mean i'm not happy with Lucas's situation right now either but saying they can't be trusted just because i don't like something they said would be rather bias.
Though i guess it would depend on how outdated that information is, since i really don't think they'll be still discussing the roster by now.
