As much as I like Mewtwo, cutting another character for him is just... Stupid imo. Especially a character easy to make.

Might just be me, but I dn't agree with the concept of "cut this character for Mewtwo!"

That just seems greedy.
I agree, but I think he's referring to how mewtwo was cut for no reason so lucas might also be cut

Mewtwo wasn't cut for no reason. It was a relatively poor reason, but it wasn't for no reason.

Few liked him in Melee so Sakurai gave him low priority and adding the most requested character ever likely caused him to miss the boat.

It's actually not even that bad a reason, it's just unfortunate that it happened.

Mewtwo also came from a large series that already had 6 reps. Sakurai doesn't like giving a series too many reps so Mewtwo was given low priority.

Yep, she had seniority and I've heard she is basically the Japanese equivalent of Capt. Falcon.
That's an odd and incorrect comparison.

Jiggs was only really popular in Japan when she was first added in the original Gen 1 era... since then her popularity has definitely decreased some.

Also Captain Falcon doesn't need a Japanese equivalent. He's omnipresent and omniscient. :p

Ironically, Lucas would be the only character that is from a Japan-exclusive title now....
Wonder if that would have anything to do with it?

Sakurai did state there is difficulty in incorporating characters from games only released in Japan due to Smash being worldwide back in Brawl's development...
I don't really follow Fire Emblem, but is Marth the main lord in any of the FE games released over here?

The only excuse I can accept is time constraints. Say, for instance, it comes down to Jigglypuff or Mewtwo. Jigglypuff has been in Smash since day one and has perfect attendance. However, she's not a very popular choice(except maybe Melee) and her importance to the Pokémon series is very debatable. On the other hand, Mewtwo is the most highly requested veteran(and possibly even character) to return. Mewtwo is very important to the Pokémon series and is iconic as well as relevant. However, Mewtwo was cut previously and was an unpopular character in tournament play.
Anyway, what I'm getting at is that I don't think it's necessarily greedy to want a character cut for another. Especially when time constraints seem to always occur in every Smash game, even the first.

Also gotta take into account where he stood in the Pokémon franchise at the time. Arceus had just knocked him off his "strongest Pokémon ever" pillar, which reduced him to nothing more than a regular legendary like Ho-Oh and Lugia. Furthermore he wasn't present in any kind of Pokémon media at the time, in Melee he had just come off a very successful movie, Pokémon Red was only a generation behind and was very much tied to Pokémon Gold too, and he was of course still insanely popular because of this. Mewtwo was nowhere to be seen in Pokémon media in Brawl's development time, and combining that with how unpopular he was in Melee it was a no-brainer to throw him off to the side and prioritize multi-veteran Jigglypuff instead, he was nothing special anymore.

Double Post Warning Received
You guys think they may bring back Mewtwo now though since fans want him back? Possibly with a final smash as his mega-evolution form?

Midna lol
Interesting about that one (I couldn't fit it all in one thing). It'd be like a team between Wolf Link and Midna, the two acting together.

Yeah people like to act as if Mewtwo was always regarded with as much reverence as he is now, but pre-Brawl he was no longer in the spotlight in his series, he had been negatively received in Melee, and there was even a notable, even if illogical contingent asking for his removal from the game (mostly those of the "it's broke so you can't fix it" mentality). Not to mention Lucario was legitimately much more popular and hyped at the time.

Do you think Mewtwo is more popular than Lucario now? :/

Precisely why I said "midna lol" XD
Very new here and I didn't even have much hype for this game until recently when the prospect of getting a Wii U presented itself to me lol

Didn't mean to double-post.

I'd be pleased with all of those to be completely honest. Surprised K Rool has such a fan-following for this game. Only makes since, we are overdue for a Donkey Kong villain.

Hi I made a roster.
Basically:
Gematsu Leak + Ridley, K. Rool, Mewtwo, and an older Nintendo character - Snake, Squirtle, Ivysaur, and Lucas =

Why Muddy Mole? Because I find the prospect of a character being able to dig underground and utilizing an item as a major factor in their moveset to be promising. Plus, he's a Gameboy character and it's Smash's first handheld title! Seems like a great fit to me.

Muddy is from the Gameboy game Mole Mania. It's a puzzle adventure game where you play as Muddy to save his kidnapped family from the EVIL FARMER Jinbe.
You can read this comic to get a better understanding what the game was about and why it's notable if you want.
It also shows what I'd imagine to be a major factor in his moveset. The Balls and Digging.

Does a better job of explaining it than I would.

Screw your Gemastu leak, here's my roster.

And Chorus Kid is Marshal, because he, a mascot, deserves it more than a concept.

Marshal is not the mascot of Rhythm Heaven.

Appearing as the host of one game in the series doesn't make you the mascot.
Heck, Chorus Kids are more of a mascot for appearing on the DS box art and other Rhythm Heaven DS advertisements such as comics and standees.

Chorus Kids also happen to be music based, which represents the series far better than Marshal. Trios are also very reoccurring in Rhythm Heaven minigames, and can be represented through Chorus Kids. Duos/trios/quartets keeping rhythm are in a majority of the minigames in the series.

Rhythm Heaven doesn't have a set mascot, but Chorus Kids are the closest it can get, and are definitely the best way to represent Rhythm Heaven in Smash Bros.

number of Megas doesnt reflect Game Freak's opinion IMO
There's no other reason why Charizard would get two Mega Evolutions and not Blastoise and Venusaur...

Unless of course the absolute most popular Pokemon get 2 Megas.
Charizard and Mewtwo.

The Pokemon that Gamefreak goes back and touches up aren't random, they're either the popular ones or the ones that gamefreak likes. look

Mewtwo - 2 megas, several movies, pkmn origins spotlight, was in smash

Charizard - 2 megas: His own slot in smash, several movies, and many tv episodes, as well as origins.

Lucario - mega: already in smash, movie, several other appearances

Pikachu - **** you I don't need no thunderstone I'm my own woman (they refuse to change the mascot, don't expect touch ups here)

Jigglupuff - New fairy typing, in smash since 64, used to be popular and had a role early in the show.

Grenjina - yeah that's my tongue (new, so going back to touch up argument doesn't work)

So yeah, does reflect their opinion, if not at least a little bit.

Has this roster leak been brought to anyone's attention yet?
To be completely honest with you, I din’t know a better place to post this. This place seems like a nice, roomy place to visit for smash players, and I don’t want to go for blow and post this on GameFAQs or Neoseeker. Now, before you leave a nasty reply or something, read this throughly. I have some information on the Smash games.

This information comes from a past email I wrote to Nintendo of America. I asked about 4 characters, which were Ridley, King K. Rool, Mewtwo, and Palutena. I asked for whereabouts and if they were playable. My response was from Kevin Anderson, a fine gentleman. He said the natural: In that the final lineups are not available yet. However, he did say he will document these files and share them with other departments at Nintendo.

Earlier this week, I got an email. The man’s screen name was Ronolab. He said he also worked at Nintendo, and he was one of the people who received the files of my email. He said a few things about not only the 4 character’s being somewhere, but about the other characters said to appear on the roster.

Ridley: He, unfortunately, is the stage boss of Pyrosphere. His attacks will include striking the opponent with his tail, as well as the Plasma Breath ability. The entire body is a hotbox, unlike the Yellow Devil, but hitting him in the mouth when and after he uses the Plasma Breath will do a tad bit more damage.

King K. Rool: Ronolab stated King K. Rool as an Assist Trophy that could be unlocked by clearing Classic Mode, which was returning, with both Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong. King K. Rool’s attacks are similar to how Saki had many abilities, but the ones he knows of include the crown toss, and firing cannonballs from the blunderbuss.

Mewtwo: The man said he was a returning character, in that he is not only requested by a solidified amount in the Japanese, but like he did with Little Mac, to please the western audience. Mewtwo has a slightly revamped moveset. His attacks returning from Melee include the Shadow Ball and Shadow Claw, but Aura Sphere would appear as his side special, and function similar to Crash Bomber in Mega Man’s arsenal.

Returning Fighters: Ronolab did not leak too much information on Returning Characters. He did reveal Jigglypuff was returning, and that one of her customizable moves includes a wider hotbox for rest, but much, much less damage. Game & Watch was also returning, and that his design from the Pac-Man trailer would be the final design for him in game. Ronolab said this would making a slight bit harder to hit for such a light character to balance it out. The final thing he said was Snake was gone, but a trophy of him would remain in the game.

Newcomers: Here is the big one. Ronolab leaked a total of 7 newcomers, and a tad bit about each of them. The first newcomer was Chrom from Fire Emblem: Awakening. Chrom would have a completely different move set from the other 2 charactes in the game, and that the only 2 moves he would keep was the chargeable Neutral Special, and the counter. He backed this to some extent with a Side Special: Dual Strike, and that it would with, well, 2 hits, each doing similar amounts of percentage. The second was Shulk from Xenoblade Chronicles. He would move similar to Ike and Link, in a sort of medium-slow manner. His Monaldo would be able to unleash powerful sword and magic attacks as well. The 3rd was one I did not expect: Karate Joe from the Rhythm Heaven series. He was selected of all of the plausible candidates because he seemed like he would fit best, being a fighter. The attack he said would be his Neutral Special, was the bomb, and that it would act a lot like the Burst Grenade. The 4th was Takamaru. His inclusion would represent the east well and due to the fact the game was recently released via Virtual Console, but only to Europe. His attacks include swinging his sword for generic standard abilities, but he could also throw knives and use the Tanooki in some way. The 5th was Dark Pit. He revealed that his trailer would be some of a continuation of the Palutena trailer, which would involve him dueling with her and plausibly Pit. His attacks would not be a clone though. His Silver Bow is completely different from Pits other than the fact it shoots arrows of solidified energy, but travels slower and has KO ability. He would also use the weapons from his battles in Uprising, such as the Dark Pit staff and Ogre Club. The 6th was The Bandanna Wearing Waddle Dee, or Bandanna Dee, from the Kirby series. His attacks include the obvious Spear Copter and stabbing multiple times, and he would be a sort of Glass Cannon. The 7th and final one was a choice I could not take seriously. The Mach Rider, seemingly, would be getting a reboot on the Wii U, titled Mach Rider U, simply, and he would join the game because of it. He would have a strange mechanic, in that he would pull out the bike for some attacks, such as the lasers. Off bike he would be a fast character who would rack up damage.

Now, I know this leak is credible to some extent, but take it with a grain of salt. I hold no credibility, but Ronolab could be correct. Gematsu was though. But let’s wait

It can be found here

But I doubt it all

Nope, I don't believe it. It's not the Ridley deconfirmation (which makes me not like it), or even the mach rider, which I find believable.

It's the fact that some random dude would email nintendo of america and get a return email with all the newcomers. BS imo.

No thank you. I just hate every part of this "leak," as it deconfirms 2 of my most wanted characters while also "confirming" the character that I want the least (Dark Pit should stick to being an alt costume for Pit). Plus, no visual evidence and no deadline? All the proof they have is "I sent an email to Nintendo and they gave me all this information" including their screen name apparently. If they actually leaked all of this, they would have their balls cut off immediately especially since they gave a way to identify themselves OH WAIT NO CAUSE IT'S NOT REAL.
Seriously, this is just ****ing stupid.

It's the fact that some random dude would email nintendo of america and get a return email with all the newcomers. BS imo.
Indeed, and supposedly with such detailed explanations, feels like more of a fan wishlist.

Edit: Except for the part of disconfirming fan favourites haha!

Some fans wishlists include character cuts. This could easily he a hater. My personal wishlist includes a distinct lack of Takamaru, I'm hating on too many swordfighters.

I do not believe it, and I'll list the reasons why.

- K. Rool AT. It's possible, I guess, but the requirement for unlocking it is more fitting for a character than an Assist.

- Mewtwo's Aura Sphere. Eh... It's not very fitting.

- Karate Joe. Looks like this guy wanted to mix up the Sal leak a little bit. Chorus Kids just represent the series better, but Karate Joe is a possibility. It's just that I trust the Sal Leak and it seems like this guy is trying to be a hipster by changing it up.

He says Gematsu was correct, but Sal said Chorus Kids, not Karate Joe, which could potentially disconfirm it.
The reason I don't believe it is mainly the first two, and of course the fact that there is no proof yet.
If Mewtwo has Aura Sphere or Karate Joe shows up then I'll listen.
