I can't say I'm an active Paper Mario supporter (though I'm a big fan of the series), but claiming he's going to be a clone just seems like the weakest argument against him. He's so obviously different from the regular Mario, I'm certain he'd be completely unique if he ever makes the cut.

But I dont really see much of a difference other than the fact that he's 2D, I feel like he would be way too similar to the regular Mario

Having paper Mario in the game would be just as beneficial as having Toon Link... *Cough cough* CLONING *cough*
Toon Link was and is really beneficial to the roster though; we finally have an adorable Link that we could fall back on because Adult Link had and has an ugly design. That was muy importante.

There's no reason to add Paper Mario if you're going to make him a clone.

The reason to add Paper Mario is because of all the potential he has.
Paper powers! Partners! Stylish moves!

I haven't been too vocal about it lately but Paper Mario is one of my most wanted newcomers.

Have you ever played any of the Paper Mario games? He has plenty of potential. The argument is if they would use the potential correctly.

Seriously, Toon Link is a godsend because Link looks god damn AWFUL in this game.

I'd rather have a third Link before Dark Pit takes a new slot. An alt costume for Pit is more than enough, just give him a few lines and tweaks but not a new spot.
Not that I support Paper Mario but he would feel very different from Mario (aside from looks).

I think it would be interesting to have Paper Mario with an action command moveset. By performing certain button combinations in performing an attack, the opponent could be exposed to extra damage or status effects.

Making Paper Mario a Mario clone would be a huge waste of potential and disloyal to the character.

Not even one hammer move for crying out loud.

Speaking of Paper Mario, when I first heard the concept of him being playable, I was disgusted. But the more I thought about him, the more I liked the idea of him being playable. I think Bowser Jr. deserves a spot before him, but if he ever does become playable I wouldn't be upset at all. I mean, he has HUGE moveset potential and I think he would be fun to use.
Well, I have a Mario rep preference, as well, though I'm sure no one will figure out who... <.< >.> Like I said before, he's just got such potential for uniqueness that it's hard to write him off, unlikely as he is.

Have you seen links new design? I'm not sure if your talking about other or previous games, but he has changed in a good way. He is a lot more detailed in terms of hair and color.

You've never played a Paper Mario have you.
I have

I'm probably one of the biggest Paper Mario supporters out there and if Paper Mario would truly become a Mario clone, even I wouldn't support him.

I support what comes from his games and the content he could bring. While I believe it's possible for him to be a clone, I find it very unlikely. Heck, the Paper Mario series may not "deserve" a character, but it's truly under-represented without a single soundtrack or stage. I love the Mario series, but I want to see stuff other than New Super Mario Bros and Mario Kart(which I do like.)

Did you not see the partners or hammers or anything?
What makes you say he wouldn't be any different than Mario? The potential is there.

Okay, judging by what people are saying I guess I'm alone on this, but I personally don't really like the fact that Toon Link is back. I would be completely fine if his moveset was even a little bit more unique from Link, but I'm just not getting that. Sure they feel different, but I would rather them be completely different. I don't hate him, in fact I sub-main him in Brawl, but I'd rather him be more differentiated.

Really? I think he looks absolutely terrible.

DK looks awful in this too. One problem though, no Toon Link alternative to use. :[ Put DK Jr!

I actually like the new designs for both Link and DK. DK's hair looks much better in Smash Wii U than Brawl.

Now this is something we can agree upon. I was shocked just now to see people not in love with this new, older, gorgeous Link (I say that completely platonically, really, I do...). Honestly, I'm liking this Link a little better than the glimpse we have at Zelda U's Link.

It's not a new design for Link though... it's just an HD version of his brawl look.
That is what it is SUPPOSED to be; however, if you actually cared to observe the design, you would find that it is completely and utterly different (and repugnant).

Exactly my point. I feel like Toon Link is too similar to regular link. He has the same final smash and everything. Basically, he has the exact same moves as him, just in a cartoonish format. If he had a whole new set of moves, I would have better feelings about his return. I am referring to brawl, as I do not know how he really is now

It's kind of a mix of the Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword look, but not with an ideal result.

As already stated, if you take the time to consider his new image, you will find that their is a lot more to it than High Definition

DK's fur looks so damn blurry and even though he's standing, his fur looks like it's going at an extreme 2000m/ph speed or something. Seriously, it's SO washed out. And in the 3DS version his fur texture looks like crap.

Pls retro save us

And Link reminds me of someone, but I forgot who. His model is bad anyhow. Just how wide is his eyes anyway?

I did. He's got more hair, and you can see more chain mail that's pretty much the only changes.

I agree with the 3ds version, but the Wii U fur i like, at least better than Brawl's.

But wouldn't you prefer that over his bleak-solid version in brawl? When I look at new, the first thing I look for is detail, and his new fur has exactly that

Link's official art looks fine, but some in-game pictures look very weird to me. Must be the angle or something.

I like DK's looks, and his design is my fave in this installment.

His Brawl fur doesn't look washed out and is actually consistent with the model, so no, I prefer his Brawl Model...which I don't even like much.

I think his eyes are pretty close to his Skyward Sword look, but I'm not a Legend of Zelda fan.
Someone claimed that it's a mix of TP and SS.
Here's the best face pic I found:

But well he's a gorilla so i think his fur looking all wild fits him, i mean i really don't see the washed out aspect. Also the fact that it doesn't look vomit inducing like the Brawl one. And after looking at the gameplay i really don't see the model inconsistencies.
But i'll give you that indeed Retro made a really good job animating his fur in tropical freeze.

Anyone who claims that Toon Link is too similar to Link is only taking moveset into account.

Toon Link is smaller, faster, looks different, and is overall better than normal Link.

When you ignore the fact that they share a moveset, you're playing as a completely different character.
They share little to no similarities otherwise.

I'm actually quite surprised at how many people deny Links new look. I'm not sure if its the eyes or what, but I take it that these people don't like Zelda's appearance either?

I think they nailed or at least came close to it for every character. Zelda's new model is my favorite actually.

Everyone except Link, DK and Palutena. I have my gripes about Little Mac too, mainly for having heavyweight arms. Lightweight my ass!

I'll agree and say Palutena's model looks, weird. I think it's the face and hair. Everything else seems good.

I can understand that, like I said earlier, I even use him, but I personally feel they should mix it a bit more between the two. And, you said it yourself, Toon Link is superior to Link, at least in Brawl, so maybe they switch Link a bit more using other items from the series. It's kind of like Fox and Falco in that regard, where people use one or the other, but in this case one is inferior. Clones in general just rub me the wrong way. Even Luigi, a character that has so much moveset potential from Mario, yet he is still very similar. Again, I don't hate these characters for being here, I would just prefer a bit more differences.

DK I think looks decent from a good distance. For example, I actually really like how his hair looks in the Custom Movesets part of the Smash Direct.
Diddy's the real offender, but we also haven't gotten a lot of footage of him.

I have issues with Palutena as well.

But I think the main reason why everyone is having problems with her design is, honestly, because it appeared to suddenly in the trailer. People loved her anime version and had jaw-drops after seeing the real deal afterwards, everyone was, then, expecting her to look exactly like the anime version.

One thing I have to say is her face, its emotionless. She smiles a faint smile throughout the entire game, I think she needs to express her self more. And I wish she had more detailed hair, it seems like a big green blob floppin' around.

Here are a few changes for three veterans that I feel should have a few changes:

Meta Knight
Appearance wise, Meta Knight should stay the same except for more of a HD look. His model should be him with his wings spread out while jumping into the air while raising his blade. A potential alternate costume could include Galaxia Knight or Yarn Meta Knight.

Game play wise, I think nerfing him or changing his metagame would be helpful. Obviously, the shuttleloop will change as the glicing mechanic is now gone. I feel Shuttle Loop can stay but it will cause Meta Knight to move in a general direction for a period of time and then enter into a freefall state. I also feel the horizontal movement of Drill Rush and Mach Tornado should be limited as well. Galaxia Cape should remain with not too many changes,

Wario
I think Wario should retain his usual Wario design with his WarioWare costume as a an alternate costume. His model should be him holding out his stomach while patting it and laughing.

I feel a redesign of Wario is in order. While the character is good, I am not a fan of his spotty animations and generally wierdness. I feel he should move more naturally and, as a result, move more slowly. I do like his height though and feel that helps him out. I feel his Wario Waft and Wario Bike should remain while his Chomp and Corkscrew should be removed. I would like to see some elements from the Wario Land game sincluded. Two attacks I feel could benefit Wario would be the Earthquake Punch (charging it could be done by shaking the controller) for his Nuetral Special and Blast-O-Cannon's for his Recovery Up Special. I do feel Wario Man should remain though with a slight buff.

Ganondorf
Design wise, I feel Ganondorf would benefit a mixture between his OoT and TT design with a bit of a Demise motiff. Make him more leaner while retaining his power. In SSBB, he looks rather out of shape while Melee, he looks too weak. I would also suggest having him emit powerful magical effects from his as a way to make him more imposing. I feel his model should be him raising his sword up high and looking at it with his tougne out. His left hand is pulsates with dark magic. While a potential alt costume could be Demise, I feel this might be uneeded. An alt costume could be something based of his Wind Waker model.

Ganondorf, IMO, needs a massive overhaul that incorporates both swordsmanship and magic. This can be done in two ways:

- Make him utilize both swordsmanship and magic attacks. This can be done by replacing several of his pre-existing move to incorporate his sword.
- Make him be able to change between magic or sword via taunt or special attack. I would suggest the taunt option.

I lean towards the later as it keeps his current move set which isn't horrible though I feel it should be tweaked. He could pull out his sword during a taunt and then keep his special. As a swordfighter, he would use magic-infused powerful attacks with his sword. Here is a list of special moves I feel could benefit him:

Neutral: Demon Blade (Slashes forward with his sword and creates a gust of dark magic. Can be charged)
Side: King Charge (Ganondorf will charge forward. Holding down B increases his speed during the charge. Connecting with the opponent causes him to slash his sword forward)
Up: Dark Spin (similar to Link's Spin Attak but lacks the vertical distance. It also does more damage and a wider range aof attack)
Down: Sword Quake (Slams his sword in the ground which can stun nearby enemies).

As I said before, his current moveset is ok but I would prefer to see a more cannon move set. This could be incorporated into his magic move set:

Neutral: Dead Mans Volley (charges and throws a dark sphere. It can be reflected back by characters if they hit it. Each reflection increases the damage done)
Side: Flame Choke (could cause more potential knock back much like in P:M)
Up B: Dark Hover (Uses magic to levitate himself and blast himself into the air.)
Down B: Shadow Beast (summons a Shadow Beast which runs out and attacks the enemy).

This declones Ganondorf but effectively giving him a similar moveset albeit his Neutral special is greatly changed. As well, I think the Beast Ganon FS is good but one more like is OoT incarnation would be great as well as the ability to be controlled would be great.

Thoughts?
