Well of course they aren't going to have their conference the same day as sony and Microsoft bc they would be overshadowed completely.
Considering every major company has their conference that day, I don't think it matters. Plus Konami has it on that day too...except this year.

I think Snake getting in Smash 4 is bull. First off, how would Kojima not know if Snake would be in Smash, when he covers all things Metal Gear? To be a troll? Maybe, but... eh. It would be a shame to get Snake and not get a Nintendo vet from Brawl, if you know what I mean.

Yes, to be a troll.

I don't think it's that hard to believe, really.

I find it surprising that so many people believe that Snake will make it in. I personally think the chances are very small.
I personally don't think being a vet matters in the long haul. It's if the character's series gets more updates/the character is popular/Sakurai logic.

Didn't Sega say almost the same exact thing with Sonic being in Smash 4?

Actually, the quote was much more enthusiastic: http://www.eventhubs.com/news/2013/...super-smash-bros-wii-u-3ds-says-its-nintendo/
Takashi Iizuka said:
TI: All we can say is that we also think it would be awesome if he was in the next Smash Bros. So yea, but that's more of a question for Nintendo than us.
Kojima's was more disheartening, but as has been said, that could've been intentional on his part.

This implies that they had no idea (even though they did) I don't see how the same thing can't be applied for Snake. It kind of reminds me of the Too-Bigots saying that anybody other than Ridley can be resized for SSB4.
I'm not saying that both quotes can't be masking for their respective characters, I'm saying that there's a difference in the tone of the quotes. For the Sonic quote, it actually sounds like they did know as they begin the sentence with "all we can say," and proceed to sound more enthusiastic with the rest of it. With the Kojima quote, he point blank says he doesn't know and considered it "unlikely," which isn't as promising in how it's said. There's a definite difference in tone in how they're conveyed.

Now, I'm not saying this can't be some Kojima trickery like he's known to do, in fact it's entirely possible knowing the man, but there is a notable difference between the two quotes that we're talking about. One is more positive in tone then the other, and regardless of intent, that does affect how one interprets the respective situations of the quote.

Sega never said Sonic was in until after he was revealed.
Well, of course, they wouldn't want to divulge one of the game's biggest prospects, would they? But Snake has already been in, so Kojima should be fine with saying, "Yeah, this game might have Snake".

We're talking Snake now?

Well, in my opinion, there was probably a good reason why Snake Eater was ported to 3DS...

@ Swamp Sensei Swamp Sensei Regarding the post you made regarding the Sal's leak a few days ago...

While Sal does tell us what newcomers are in the game, he hasn't told us anything else. Sal has not told us about veterans, how many characters to expect, nothing to indicate whenever or not there's more (so he hasn't explicitly said we're done) as well as no other leaks that connect to this leak.

Compare that to Brawl's leak. Leaks from PortraitOfRuins, NyaseNye, and ChaosZero all put the information together and what it resulted was the roster we got for Brawl. All of them had legitimates leaks to fit the puzzle. Sal does have a big piece, but he cannot tell the entire story because he does not know what else is in.

What I'm saying is that this might not be it. Because we have no information on veterans, character counts, other leaks that might be legitimate (which so far there isn't any), or whenever or not we're done, this may leave more for potentially more newcomers. I did succumb to pessimism for a couple of days, but this fact is what got me back to hoping for the likes of K. Rool, Mach Rider, and Dixie Kong for this game.

I'd say remain 50/50 on the matter.

Onto another note, the Konami tweet regarding Snake is making me a lot more hopeful about Snake. Before, I highly doubted his inclusion, but this actually gives me some hope for his return which I did not have a year before.

We are talking about the man that forced his fans to watch tv commercials at the beginning of MGSIV, the guy has trolled his fans hard before, in other words, never take everything he says seriously

These two images are both valid explanations for Kojima's "unlikely" quote:

Personally, I think that Snake is probably in the game, but I'm not overly confident in this, and I can see merit in arguments against him. I definitely don't think anyone should count him out yet, however.

Looks good!

I like it a lot.

Though perhaps you could put more space between Mario's bar and Waluigi.

As well as numbers to clarify REALLY close results like Mario and Luigi.

We really have nothing going for or against Snake at this point; we never had actually, besides fan theories (Snake hasn't been on a Nintendo console in forever so he can't be in or "he doesn't fit in") and quotes that could be interpreted as evidence for both sides (NDA could adequately explain his puzzling answer about Snake). His inclusion or not in Smash was always up in the air, high above the clouds.

And now with the actor tweet and Konami's conference on the same day as Nintendo's just adds circumstantial "evidence" that can be looked at far too many angles to properly rely on yet (Coincidence? Phantom Pain on Wii U? Maybe actual Smash bros news?) We don't know enough to properly pin it down yet.

With that said, still better then nothing, and still interesting. There's a slight possibly things will go favorably, at least. (And I hope it does go smoothly, I really don't want the "he doesn't fit or Nintendo, so he'll be cut" theory to gain anymore ammo in it's magazine then it already has)

Okay, you have five seconds to start explaining your reasons or I'd have to AK-47 you for this. Wolf should be back and there's really no reason for him to be removed other than time constraints.

I'm thinking Snake is still in. I don't know, call it a hunch I guess. But was received really well. So unless he gets swapped out for someone that can do the same things he can do, he should stay. But I could be a little too hopeful.

Just curious here: does anyone think Snake's supposed newfound likeliness affects Pac-Man's chances? I remember back before most people lost hope for Snake there was a lot of discussion over how many third party characters were reasonable for the roster. After Snake's support started dropping off, most people just kinda left it at three. If Snake does indeed return, is there still room for Pac-Man, or are they in direct competition with each other? Is four too many, or does it not matter at all?

Nah not really, there's still lots of evidence helping him such as the Namco AT and the Gematsu leak that helps his chances go up to a 99%.

So some food for thought here. When Kojima was talking about Snake probably not being in Smash 4, did anybody else think he was only talking about SOLID Snake? We always have Big Boss because of Phantom Pain.

Not to mention, supposedly somebody hacked the Wii U when it first released and found that there was a MGS title being worked on for Wii U. Take that into account, and we could see at least one version of Snake back in Smash. @Johnknight1 has more information on that.

But yeah. My hype is real. The fact that the hashtags are #Whatfor and #Keptyouwaitinghuh make me feel as if it's not supposed to be as obvious as it comes cross. The picture itself is for the Phantom Pain, but there isn't anything in particular pointing towards the Xbox One or PS4, which is something that is basically always in pictures of anything relating to it marketing wise. This one doesn't have anything, and it's talking about the day that Snake will return...which is the same day as the Smash session, and Nintendo's day as a whole.

Take that as you will, but THE HYPE TRAIN CAME EARLY.

That might actually be the case, he could always assert that he was not lying to consumers as Big Boss is not Solid Snake. I am not going to get my hopes up, or at least that is what I would have said if my hopes did not go up.

No, a NDA does not justify a blatant deconfirmation as opposed to selective answering or refusal to answer the question. I believe that misdirection, something that Scolosis suggested is an adequate reason though (obviously).

Regardless of whichever version is playable, I want an alternate costume of the other.
It depends, I would not necessarily want too many "different character" alternates. I would rather that the individual that got in got an alternate of the character (to an extent). I want both of them in the game, but it would be odd with characters having other character as alternate costumes. If they did that with Snake, I would want that same treatment with other characters. Consistency.

The thing with Snake is that he would make more sense to have alternate costumes like that as opposed to say, Chrom and Ike. Big Boss and Snake have such minute differences, it would be too much of a problem. At least to me it wouldn't.

Hm, well they could do Dr. Mario, James McCloud, and Lucina. Can't really think of anyone else.
