now why would they go and remove wolf for krystal? A well recieved villain, in trade for an uneeded and pretty unwanted co-hero.

They have different properties, though, on account of Shadow's jet shoes. As WFT and Villager show, alternate costumes are intended to be re-skinned characters, though with all the same hitboxes and properties (weight, size, speed, etc.).

If Shadow is an alt costume, then it would be a purely cosmetic change. Which would be very bizarre, since it seems rather improbable that they would modify the animations and properties of the Shadow costume to make use of his jet shoes and/or other aesthetic qualities (not to mention that you'd have to forgo Shadow's canon qualities, like his slower speed than Sonic, his reliance on Chaos Control, and so forth).

As a result, the point of using Shadow as an alt costume would be lost. If Sonic is to have an alternate costume, then it would have to be something that could still retain Sonic's gameplay qualities and properties despite the cosmetic makeover (such as with Male Fit Trainer, or the other Villager models).

E3 is going to have a Pre-E3 leak from Sal, with probably the last 2 - 4 newcomers, and one of them will be revealed at the show.

Then, I expect to see Pac Man and Miis revealed, with a third newcomer.

Falco and Krystal essentially play the same role, accept Krystal also plays the love interest and is the focal point of Adventures and Command. If anyone in the equasion is uneeded its that trashy bird.

Truthfully, Krystal is necessary for the completion of the Star Fox franchise.
It's just that I don't think Star Fox will be completed until MAYBE Smash 5 (AKA 6 I guess).

Sonic doesn't seem to have many viable costume options. The closest would be Classic/Oldschool Sonic (a la Generations), though Modern Sonic has different proportions, so they might have to tweak Classic Sonic to be lankier or something (which would be weird, and would likely be a disservice to that incarnation of the character).

Ideally, I would think that they wouldn't shoehorn costumes just so every character has some. Only characters that have appropriate or fitting alternatives (as per the Same Properties, Different Skin rule) should have alternate costumes. Maybe those who don't have viable costumes could have a wider range of colour palettes (including accessories) to compensate.

I mean, the proportions aren't quite the same, but it's still Sonic and it would still work with just those wrist/ankle bandages and that brown bandanna around his neck.

I'd use it every time, too; I'm not yet sure what to think of the actual game, but he looks like a fighter, and I think it'd look cooler on Smash Sonic's body.

I suppose this would depend on when Sonic Boom was being created. Team Sakurai would need to be informed early enough to actually implement such a model.

Then again, by including the Boom costume, SEGA might see this as an opportunity to promote SB in Smash -- since, I would imagine, that SEGA would have been the ones to suggest and/or push Sonic Boom as an alt costume option, when Sakurai or whoever went to SEGA for suggestions.

So if the Boom costume is used as an alt, perhaps we would see some more SB content. Using Smash as a platform to promoting future games or projects isn't the norm (I don't recall if there was ever a case of such***), but Third-Parties could perhaps allow for this approach.

Otherwise, with some adjustments, the costume could work. I'm not counting on its inclusion, however (though I'd reckon that we'd get more info at E3, if there is indeed SB content in Smash).

Melee came out before Roy's Fire Emblem ever did, and there have been trophies in the past for games that hadn't come out yet. Advertising in Smash is nothing new.

Since SEGA is really pushing their Sonic Boom project, having such content in Smash is fairly plausible. Though even with all this, I wouldn't say that a Sonic Boom alt for Sonic is in the bag or anything.

I actually did a Photoshop edit for a Sonic Boom costume awhile ago.

A Sonic Boom costume does seem very likely, the only potential problem I can see is that both the Sonic Boom game and cartoon are not coming to Japan.

The only reason I think he would get cut (though I don't think he will) is this: he's a Star Fox character.

Nintendo just does not care anymore. The fact that they reached three characters in Smash is astounding. If Sakurai ends up needing to make cuts, the first place to go would be Star Fox, a practically dead series with three characters that play extremely similarly to each other. From there it's just a matter of veteranhood; Fox has been in three games, Falco has been in two, poor Wolf has only been in one.

If Sonic were to get alternate costumes, I wouldn't mind accessories. Hell, I wouldn't mind if it wasn't canon, accessories would do just fine for me.

And on the topic of Shadow being Sonic's costume, I think it honestly shows disrespect for a character that can be standalone, to be just a costume.

Yeah of course, I'm sure he said that the first place he's go is StarFox. It was never, "dead." "Dead," is a false term in which people use it way too often. Any franchise can have a new installment at anytime. "Dormant," is the proper term.

Even so, I see no reason to cut anyone from StarFox. I would rather have 4 reps, and there's no reason why it can't. I'm so sick of people's biased claims because their franchise of choice doesn't get their character, or that the franchise is, "dead," when we have no true confirmation of the series status at the moment, other than Miyamoto saying something that may or may not be true.

-A video shows the character select screen with all characters revealed so far and 7 blank spaces...then Sakurai proudly announces that the Koopalings are joining the fight.
