Just when I was getting ready to buy a pro controller for Smash Nintendo shows a GameCube controller adapter, for me that was honestly better than a new character reveal.

And while it is fire, I do find it a bit bland.

But what do you mean by "gun blade"? Like, a move that shoots out a projectile? I wouldn't mind if Ike gets a projectile. Heck, if all the FE fighters are gonna use swords, and be all like in-your-face, then giving a projectile move to someone would be refreshing and open up more options.

I suppose this is why I like the idea of a revamped Roy. They could give Roy different fire projectile moves, uh, not to make him super spammy, but I think you understand my point. Heh, if I feel like spamming, I play Toon Link. Z-air is an awesome ranged move, good comboing and catching some reflectors off-guard.

Thanks for this. I think that Ice Climbers, Ness, and Falcon will be the last vets shown. And we get three more newcomers. I could see Mewtwo being a hidden character and not shown, just so people can have a nice surprise. I liked how many hidden newcomers were in melee as opposed to Brawl. I kind of hope that happens again.

Let me explain the Gun Blade.

Gun Blade is one of Sol Badguy's special attacks. It's a ground based projectile where Sol releases a stream of fire that goes across the stage and hits multiple times. The attack is designed to allow Sol a window of opportunity to preform his signature rushdown playstyle. There are also different versions of it, like the Dragon Install version causes an explosion that is fairly spammable and Order Soul has it as an overdrive instead.

I saw Ike should have an attack like gun Blade because, frankly, Ike's ground options are very limited. He has his very effective jab, and that's about it. His tilts are very laggy and his throws are pretty weak. So with the option to have a projectile to open up more options for both spacing and approaching, I think it would be appropriate.

In general, Ike just needs options to make him less one dimensional. I wouldn't mind if Quick Draw was adjusted to be more like Project M, or hell I think making the tilts faster and the throws more versatile would be a step forward.

I don't think we can assume which characters will be the starters though. If I'm not mistaken, Kirby was never playable in any of the Brawl demos, and yet he was a starter.

Oh, by "Gun Blade" I thought you were referring to something else. Well, that makes sense.

I remember seeing this Ike hacked moveset where Ike has a ground based projectile if he uses his F-smashes (it looks like a glowing wave, but it doesn't got too far). Would something like that work?

At any rate, Ike having a projectile would freshen things up, and I do agree that his laggy tilts need to be worked on. His jab is sexy though, I love the combo and sword range. Hmm, hopefully we'll get more info as to what changes Ike has soon.

Why would you expect diversity from a roster based on popularity? This roster would "overall" please Smash fans. I would like to reach out to further parts of the globe, with a more broadened net (Using sites like Facebook, twitter, ect) This roster is made up mostly of Smashboards, Reddit, 4chan, and NeoGaf users, with the remaining 19% or coming from everywhere in between.

I find this roster interesting, yet I wish the poll it was taken from wasn't so outdated. Still, Chrom, Shulk, Mewtwo, AND Isaac? Sign me up even if we do get Krystal.

Chrom will only get more popular as time goes on, or at least for the next year or two. Since Awakening's announcement he has been slowly gaining traction, and even managed to dethrone Roy late last year. Roy had a monopoly as the FE character choice for a long time. I could talk about Smash popularity trends all day, so I'll just leave it at this: Chrom ain't goin anywhere.

I've polled Serena's Forest, and while I'm SURE they didn't all rally behind Chrom, I would say a decent amount did.

Nobody else gives F-Zero love either, tis a shame.

F-Zero has plenty of love, we just all know it's hopeless.

The biggest problem against Ray MK is that he's a character based entirely around customization. Making him playable with a set moveset would be terrible representation of his character and series. I'm aware that there is going to be slight customization, but I don't believe he'd actually be switching weapons, and even if he did, he'd only get two or three different versions of each part, which just looks pathetic. I love Ray MK, but I don't think he's fit for Smash Bros.

That's a pretty weak argument against Ray.

Actually, that's a pretty weak argument against any character when C.Falcon exists. Not to mention Ness and Lucas who have different abilities than the ones they use in Smash.

Do any of the RPG characters like the Pokemon or the Fire Emblem characters suffer because you can't customize them? Do Link or Samus suffer as fighters because you can't explore or upgrade as you play? Has Pit been robbed because of all the many, many weapons in Uprising, he only got one Fist, one Bow, and one Orbitar? How does this make any sense? Custom Robos don't even switch weapons in-battle, they're just customizable characters. I'm fairly certain I could replay through the entirety of the Gamecube game or Arena without ever changing a single piece, while I know for certain I couldn't play any Zeldas without changing swords at some point or another (except Four Swords and Four Swords Adventures).

What's more, even with all the countless weapons at Ray's disposal (which, if anything, only contribute to his Smash potential), he would still come down to a handful of types of attacks:
Gun
Pod
Bomb
Dash
Soul Boost (super transformation)

He's practically a Smash character already; the Custom Robo series is literally listed in the Fighting Game genre. They could be fancy and creative and give him some of the weirder weapons, or they could do what they already did in Brawl and give him all Basic parts. I'm pretty sure he'd still feel like Ray no matter what, and I doubt any of the 40 remaining Custom Robo fans would be upset that Nintendo brought him back from his undeserved obscurity and put him in Smash.

P.S. "MK" means "Mark." There is no "Ray MK," there are just different Rays. Ray, Ray MKII, Ray MKIII, Ray 01, Ray Warrior, Ray Legend, Shining Ray, etc. Any would be fine, as "Ray" is always the protagonist's bot, but I'd go with 01 or MKIII to please the international crowd, since the previous 4 games were Japanese exclusive.

Well, it has all of my favourite characters, plus more, so it's hard to find a fault. I can do without Krystal or Skull Kid though

Sadly, I think you yourself outlined the reason we won't be getting Ray right here. You, me, and the other 38 fans will just have to lie neglected in the corner until a custom robo revival.

As sad and true as that may be, I still like to think he might at least be on Sakurai's mind given the Robo's appearances in previous Smash games.

Also, an edit to previous posts: there are actually only FIVE Custom Robo games. The second GBA one was actually cancelled. My bad.

I love Custom Robo and especially Ray, but the Mech Gauss is much cooler. If we were to get a CR rep, it would be Ray, though. It's one onf the only ereis I have every entry in, along with Chibi-Robo and Pokemon.
